Remov ing the Comp uter Ac cess Pa nel 1. Remove/di sengage any security d evices tha t prohibit op ening the computer. 2. Replacin g the Compu ter Access Panel Place th e access panel on the chassis with abo ut 1.3 cm (1/2 inch ) of the panel hangi ng off the back of the chas sis and s lide it into plac e (1). Ens ure that the hole for the s crew is a ligned wi th the hole in the chassis and tighten the screw ( 2).

Removing Bezel Blanks On some mod els, there ar e bezel blanks coverin g the 3.5-inch an d 5.25-inc h external dr ive bays that need to be re moved be fore ins talling a drive.
Replaci ng the Front Beze l Inse rt the thre e hooks on the left s ide of the bez el into the s lots on the chassis (1) and ro tate the beze l on from le ft to right (2) so that it snaps in p lace.
Inst alli ng Additiona l Memo ry The computer comes with double dat a rate 2 synchrono us dynam ic random acc ess memory ( DDR2- SDRAM) dual in line mem ory mo dules ( DIMMs). DIMMs The memo ry socket s on the system boa rd can be popu lated with up to four industry- standa rd DIMM s.
Populating D IMM Sockets There are four DIMM socke ts on the system boa rd, with two so ckets per ch annel. The sock ets are labeled XMM1 , XMM2 , XMM3, a nd XMM4. Sock ets XMM 1 and XMM2 ope rate i n memor y channe l A. Socke ts XMM3 and X MM4 oper ate in m emory channel B.

Removi ng or Installin g an Expa nsio n Card The comp uter has one standar d PCI expansi on slot that ca n accommodate an ex pansion car d up to 17.46 cm (6 .875 inc hes) in leng th. The compu ter als o has two PCI Ex press x1 expan sion slots and one PCI Expr ess x16 exp ansion slo t.
5. Remove th e compute r acce ss pane l. 6. Locate the c orrect vac ant exp ansion so cket on the system bo ard an d the corres ponding expansi on slot on the back of the co mputer cha ssis. 7. On the r ear of t he comput er, a sl ot cover lock secures th e expans ion car d brackets in place.
NOTE: Before rem oving an i nstalled expansio n card, di sconnect an y cabl es that may b e attached to the expansio n card. a. If you are in stalling an expansio n card in a vacant s ocket, you must use a flatbla de screwdriv er to pry ou t the metal shield on the rear pa nel that cover s the expan sion slot .
c. If you ar e removi ng a PC I Express x16 ca rd, pull t he rete ntion arm on the bac k of the expansi on socket away from th e card and ca reful ly rock the ca rd back an d forth until the conne ctors pul l free fr om the so cket. Be sure n ot to scr ape the c ard aga inst t he other component s.
11. To install a new expansi on card , hold the card just above the expa nsion s ocket on the s ystem board then move the c ard towa rd the r ear of th e chassis so that the bott om of the bracket on the card sl ides into the s mall sl ot on the c hassis .
15. Reconnect th e power cor d and an y ext ernal dev ices, t hen turn on the c omputer. 16. Lock any s ecurity d evices that were dise ngaged whe n the access pa nel w as rem oved. 17. Reconfigure the comp uter, if necessa ry. Refer to the C ompute r Setup (F10) Uti lity Guid e for instruc tions on usin g Compute r Setup.
Inst alling Addi tiona l Drives When ins talling add itiona l drives, follow these gui delines : ● The primar y Ser ial ATA ( SATA) h ard drive must be connec ted to th e dar k blue primar y SATA connector on t he syste m board labe led SAT A0.
CAUTION: To preve nt loss of work and damag e to the computer or driv e: If yo u are ins erting or removin g a drive, s hut down t he operatin g syst em properly , turn off the computer , and unplug the pow er cord . Do not remove a drive whi le the computer is on or in standby mo de.

Removing an Optical Drive CAUTION: All re movab le media shoul d be taken out of a drive befor e removing the drive from the comput er. To remo ve an optical drive: 1. Remove/di sengage any security d evices tha t prohibit op ening the computer. 2. Remo ve al l r emova ble medi a, su ch as di sket tes or c ompa ct di scs, from the compu ter .

Installing an Optical Drive in to th e 5.25-inch Drive Bay To insta ll an optio nal 5.25-in ch optical drive: 1. Remove/di sengage any security d evices tha t prohibit op ening the computer. 2. Remo ve al l r emova ble medi a, su ch as di sket tes or c ompa ct di scs, from the compu ter .
10. If the system configura tion includ es only one optical drive, co nnect the SAT A data cable to the white sy stem boar d connec tor labe led SAT A1 . If y ou are adding a seco nd opt ical driv e, conne ct the SAT A data ca ble to the oran ge syst em boa rd conn ector labeled SATA3.
6. Disconne ct the drive cab les, as indi cated in the fol lowing illustra tions: a. If you a re remo ving a d iskette d rive, d isconnec t the data cable ( 1) and power ca ble (2) from the b ack of the dr iv e. Figure 2-22 Disconnecti ng the Diskette Drive Cabl es b.

9. Slide the dri ve in through the front of the ch assis (1) unti l the bezel on the drive is ev enly alig ned with th e comput er front beze l and ins tall th e M3 metr ic retainer screw (2) as shown in the il lustrati on below. NOTE: Extra drive ret ainer sc rews are provide d on the i nteri or of the front be zel if needed .
Removing an Internal 3.5-inch Hard Drive NOT E: Before you remov e the old hard drive, be sure to bac k up the data f rom the old ha rd driv e so that yo u can transfer th e data to the new hard drive.
7. Push down th e latch on the side of the hard disk d rive cage (1 ), then slide the hard disk driv e cage away from the bottom of the chassi s (2) as shown below . Figure 2-27 Releasin g the Hard Dri ve Cage 8. Lift th e hard disk drive c age out of the c hassis.

Remove the fou r screws t hat secur e the hard disk dr ive to the hard disk driv e cage ( 1), then slide the hard disk drive out of the hard disk driv e cage (2).
Installin g an Internal 3.5-in ch Hard Drive 1. Follow the st eps in Removi ng an Internal 3.5-inch Hard Dr ive on page 34 to remove the hard drive cage and, if necessary, the ex isting har d drive. 2. Slide th e new d rive into the hard disk dr ive cag e (1), aligning the driv e with the four screw ho les on the ca ge.

B Battery Replacement The battery tha t comes wit h the computer prov ides power to the real- time cloc k. When repl acing the battery , use a batter y equivalent to the battery originally installed in the compute r. The compute r comes with a 3 -volt lith ium coin c ell batt ery.
NOTE: On some computer m odels, it may be necess ary to remove an internal com ponent to gain access to the battery. 7. Depending on the type of battery h older on the syst em boar d, compl ete the fo llowing instruc tions to replace the battery. Type 1 a.
