Remove the c ompute r cove r. To reatta ch the Smart Cover Lock , secure the lock in place with the tam per-proof s crew.
Removing the Computer Cover 1. Remove/di sengage any sec urity device s that prohib it opening the computer. 2. Remo ve al l r emova ble medi a, su ch as di sket tes or c ompa ct di scs, from the compu ter . 3. Turn of f the com puter proper ly throug h the operati ng syst em, then tu rn o ff any exte rnal de vices.
Replaci ng the Compute r Cove r Align t he tabs on the panel w ith the sl ots on the chassis, th en slide the cover all th e way onto the chassis unti l it lock s into place .
Inst alling Addi tional Memo ry The com puter comes wi th double data rat e 2 synchrono us dynamic random a ccess me mory (DDR2 - SDRAM) dual inli ne memor y modules (DIMMs). DIMMs The memo ry sockets on the sy stem board can be populated wit h up to four industr y-standard DIMMs.
Populating D IMM Sockets There are four DIMM socket s on the system boa rd, with two sock ets per channel. Th e sockets are labeled XMM1, XMM2, XMM3 , and XMM4. So ckets XMM 1 and XM M2 opera te in mem ory cha nnel A. Socke ts XMM3 and XMM4 operate in memory channel B.
should be populated with the two 512MB DIMMs. With this confi guration, 2 GB will run as du al channel and 256 M B will r un as sin gle chan nel. ● In any mode, the maxim um operational speed is determined by the slowest DIMM in the sys tem. Installing DIMMs CAUTION You mu st disconne ct the power cord befor e adding or remov ing memor y modules.
8. Open both latches o f the me mory mo dule socket ( 1), and in sert the me mory modu le into the socket (2). Figu re 2 -6 Installing a DIMM NOTE A me mory module can be insta lled in only on e way. Matc h the notch on the module with the tab on the m emory socket.
Removing o r Insta lling an Expansi on Card The com puter has two stan dard low-profi le PCI e xpansion s lots that c an acco mmodate a n expansio n card up to 17.46 cm (6 .875 inch es) in len gth. The computer also ha s one PC I Expre ss x1 ex pansion slot and one PC I Express x16 expan sion slot.
CAUTION Regardles s of the power-o n state, v oltage is always pr esent on the sy stem board as long as the system i s plugged into an active AC outlet. Yo u must disc onnect the power co rd to av oid damag e to the i nternal component s of the c omputer.
NOTE Before removing an insta lled exp ansion c ard, disco nnect an y cable s that m ay be attached t o the expansion card. a. If you ar e instal ling an ex pansion card in a vacant sock et, remov e the appro priate ex pansion slot cove r on the back of the chas sis.
b. If you are remo ving a stand ard PCI car d, hold the ca rd at each en d, and carefu lly rock it b ack and forth until th e connec tors pull f ree from th e socket. P ull the exp ansion card st raight u p from the socket t hen away f rom the ins ide of the chassis to release it from the ch assis fram e.
10. Store the r emoved card in anti-s tatic pa ckaging. 11. If you are not installing a new ex pansion card, ins tall an expan sion slot cover to close the open slot. CAUTION After re moving a n expans ion card, you must replace i t with a n ew card or expansio n slot cover for pr oper cooli ng of interna l component s during ope ration.
