39 EXERCISE STEPS The following nine steps for designing your exercise program were developed by exercise physiologists at FreeMotion Fitness. The actual exercise you perform is only a part of a safe and effective training program. There are many other aspects to developing a life-long commitment to physical fitness.
40 Warm up before you begin. A warm-up routine prepares your body and mind for vigorous exercise. It also helps provide insur- ance against injury and soreness. Warm up with two to five minutes of slow exercise, at minimal in- tensity. Stretch after your warm-up.
41 Get FIT with FreeMotion Fitness. Effective aerobic exercise has three major parts: frequency , intensity , and time . The acronym "FIT" may help you to remember these three parts: “F” stands for the frequency of your work- outs. Three to five workouts per week are recommended.
42 WORKOUT PROGRAMS The Health level typically lasts four to six weeks. At this level you should be concerned with slowly improv- ing your fitness level and endurance. Take it slowly. Set mini-goals for yourself. You may want to begin your fitness routine with three or four short, 5- or 10-minute workouts in a day.
