1. READ THIS FIRST P ower up the unit b y smoothly withdra wing the red “pull” tab at the top left hand cor ner of the unit. If the batteries are supplied separately install the three AA batteries by sliding the upper co v er off as shown in figure 5a page 15.
When the CO Alar m detects abnormal lev els of CO (abov e 50ppm CO) the red light star ts to flash immediately and the hor n will sound within 90 minutes . At higher le vels of CO the alarm will tur n on sooner (see tab le B - page 8). The CO Alar m will automatically reset once the CO has cleared.
(5) Ring y our gas or other fuel supplier on their emergency number . K eep the number in a prominent place . (6) Do not re-enter the proper ty until the alar m has stopped. (If the alarm has been silenced b y pressing the test/hush button, wait at least 5 min utes so the alar m can chec k that the CO has cleared).
High levels of CO in a house can be caused b y: • Incorrectly or poorly installed fuel-bur ning appliances . • Bloc ked or crac ked chimne ys/flues. • Bloc ked v ents or draught-proofing which mak es areas with fuel b ur ning appliances or fireplaces air tight.
Many cases of repor ted Carbon Mono xide poisoning indicate that while victims are a ware they are not w ell, they become so disorientated that they are unab le to sav e themselv es by either lea ving the building or calling f or assistance. Y oung children and household pets ma y be the first aff ected.
3.3 What happens when y our CO Alarm detects Carbon Monoxide ? When the Alar m detects potentally dangerous le v els of CO , it flashes the red alar m light immediately and then sounds a loud alar m if the CO persists . T ab le B below shows how the CO Alarm reacts to diff erent lev els of CO gas and e xposure time.
NEVER IGNORE THE ALARM. Pre-Alarm: When the alar m detects o ver 50ppm CO the red light flashes e v er y 2 seconds. This helps locate CO leaks as the unit giv es an indication straight a wa y . (Without this f eature the CO le vel w ould need to be at 50ppm CO f or 90 minutes f or an indication to be giv en).
Reset Memory by holding do wn the test button f or ov er 20 seconds until the red light stops flashing. Cov er the hor n with a cloth to muffle the alarm dur ing this time. Please note that the memor y will also be reset when the unit is unpo wered. 4.
4.2 Unsuitable Locations Do not place the CO Alar m in an y of the follo wing areas. (1) In the immediate vicinity of a cooking appliance (k eep it at least 1 metre horizontally from it). (2) Outside the b uilding. (3) In an enclosed space (e.g. in or below a cupboard).
4.31 If locating the CO alarm in a r oom with a fuel b urning appliance (see figure 2) • If it is mounted on a wall, it should be located at a height g reater than the height of any door or windo w but still be at least 150mm from the ceiling. • If it is mounted on the ceiling it should be at least 300mm from any w all or light fitting.

5. INST ALLA TION W ARNING: Do not use the CO Alar m on an intermittent basis, or as a por table detec- tor f or the spillage of combustion products from fuel b ur ning appliances or chimne ys.
Mark the position of the two mounting holes by using the unit as a template. Dr ill tw o holes using a 6mm drill for the plastic plugs supplied, (ensure y ou don’t drill into the house wir ing). Scre w the unit to the wall. Chec k that the CO Alar m can be heard in all the bedrooms.
( Note: The Ei205EN, Ei205ENA & Ei205CEN are supplied with 2 loc king r iv ets. Inser t the other loc king r iv et similar ly after remo ving the other post). 5.3 INTERCONNECTING (Model Ei205CEN only) Up to 12 Ei 205CEN Carbon Mono xide Alar ms can be interconnected so that when one senses CO , all alar m.
1. Slide off the batter y cov er as sho wn in Figure 5a. 2. On the first unit connect twin core cab le to the ter minals mar k ed 1 and 2 as shown in Figure 8 and bring the cab le out through the hole abov e the ter minal b lock. 3. If the y are being surf ace wired, break one of the three knoc kouts on the rear side wall.
6. TESTING & MONIT ORING Y OUR CO ALARM Button T est It is recommended that y ou test your CO Alar m after installation and then once a w eek to mak e sure the unit is wor king. It will also help you and y our f amily to become f amiliar with the sound of the alar m.
(The batteries will usually last ov er 4 years in standb y under nor mal conditions. An undepleted batter y can po wer a unit in alarm for o ver 100 hours . The lif e will be reduced if the unit regularly goes into alar m or if it is e xposed to excessiv e temperatures f or long periods).
How to distinguish between CO Alarm and Smoke Alarm warnings The CO Alar m has a distinctiv e on-off sound of 3 pulses, f ollow ed by a pause as compared with a typical Smok e Alar m which has a rapid pulsing sound. In addition, when y our CO Alar m detects CO the red light will be flashing.
End of Life When the unit has completed up to 6 y ears of operation the amber light will flash e ver y 40 seconds. The entire unit must then be replaced. It must also be replaced when the date on the “Replace Unit b y” label on the side wall is e xceeded.
(2) Carbon Mono xide must enter the unit f or it to be detected. There ma y be Carbon Mono xide in other areas of the house (e.g. downstairs , in a closed room etc). but not in the vicinity of the CO Alar m. Doors, air dr aughts and obstr uctions can pre v ent the CO reaching the Alar m.
Carbon Mono xide, b ut the response characteristics of these CO Alar ms are such that the y would not give sufficient w ar ning of fire. Smoke Alar ms m ust be fitted to give early warning of fire. The CO Alar m does not detect the presence of natural gas (methane), bottled gas (propane, butane) or other comb ustible gases .
If any of these signs are present get the appliance chec ked out b y an e xper t bef ore fur ther use. If f amily members are ill get medical help . (2) Choose all appliances and v ehicles which burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, natural/bottled gas , paraffin, wood, petrol, diesel, charcoal etc.
(9) Lea ving windows or doors slightly open (e ven a f ew inches) will significantly reduce the risk of high lev els of CO occurring. The high le vels of dr aught-proofing in moder n houses reduces v entilation and can allow dangerous gases to b uild up .
T esting with CO : The red light flashes (as per T able B) within 10 seconds of unit detecting CO . Initialisation Time : 70 seconds. On power up red and amber lights flash momentarily to show the y are operational. Operating T emperature : -10°C to 40°C Humidity Range : 15% to 95% R.
End of Lif e Indication: Amber light flashes e very 45 seconds after 6 years to show the unit m ust be replaced. Dimensions : 135 x 105 x 71 mm. W eight : 260g.
These guarantees only apply to normal conditions of use and ser vice, and do not include damage resulting from accident, neglect, misuse, unauthorised dismantling, or contamination howsoe ver caused. These guarantees e xclude incidental and consequential damage.
13. TR OUBLESHOO TING ALARM DOES NO T WORK WITH THE TEST BUTT ON: (1) Hold b utton down fir mly f or at least 5 seconds. (2) Chec k the ‘pull’ tag is remov ed and/or the batteries are correctly connected. (3) Replace batteries (if they are accessib le).
(2) Ensure there are no fumes in the area (e.g. paint, thinners, hair spra y , chemical cleaners aerosol spra ys etc). (3) Ensure there is no outdoor source of CO in the vicinity (e.g. a car with engine running, heavy traffic , heavy air pollution, barbecue fumes etc).
