Prepa rations 25 Stylus Pen Stra ps To attach an optional wris t strap Pass the attachin g end of the wrist strap through the rear bracket on the cam- corder , thread the wrist strap through the loop and fasten. Y ou can also attach the wr ist strap to the strap mount on the grip belt to use both for extra conv enience and prote ction.

Prepa rations 29 Basic Operation o f the Camcorder Using the T ouch Screen The contr o l buttons and menu it ems that appear on the t ouch screen change d ynamically depending on the operatin g mode and the t ask you ar e perfor ming. Y ou can e asily op erate the touch scr een using your finger or the supplied stylus pen.

32 Prepa ratio ns Using the Menus Many of the camcor der’ s functions can be adjuste d fro m the FUNC. panel and the setup menus. In mode, however , most menus can- not be acces sed and, except in a few cases, m ost menu settings w ill return to their default values.

Prepa rations 35 Changing the Language The default language of the ca mcorder is English. Y ou can set it to one of 27 languages. * Only wh en performing t he procedure in a recording mode. Smart AUTO Mode 47 Zoomin g The camcorder offers three types of zoom - op tical, advanced and dig- ital. For optica l zoom, the camcorder uses t he optic al magnifica tion ratio of the lens.

Smart AUTO Mode 49 Qui ck St art Fu ncti on When you cl o se t he LCD pane l with the camcor der on, the cam cor der enter s the stand by mode. In stand by mode th e camcor der c onsumes only about 1/3 the p ower used when r ecording, s aving ener gy when you ar e using a bat tery pa ck.

54 Video 3D Flip View 3D Flip View is a fun way to display yo ur video recordings (original scenes) in a 3D layout, or ganized by reco rding date. In the date index screen, touch [ ] .
Video 55 In any index screen, touch [ b ]. During si ngle photo vi ew , touch t he scr een once to d isplay the contr ols then touch [ Q ] to open the [Photos] index scr een. Opt ions NOTES • Fast /slow p laybac k modes are not avail able for s cenes c onve rted to standard definition.
56 Video Deleting Scenes Y ou can delete those scenes tha t yo u are not interested in keeping. Deleting scen es allows you also to fr ee up space on the memor y . See also Deleting Scenes and Stories from the Gallery ( 0 90). 1 In the date index screen, open the scr een that contains the scenes you want to delete.

58 Video Advanced Functions Shooting Video in Flexible Recording Mode When the camcor der is in (fle xib le reco rding) mode, you ca n enjoy full access to the menus and manually adjust th e exposur e, focus, whi te balanc e and many more o f the camcorder's s ettings to your pr eference.

64 Video Image Stabil ization The image stabili zer red uces camcor der blur (blur due to the cam- cord er moving) so you can get nice, stable shots . Select the image sta - bilization mode according to the shooting conditions. In mode, this function is set to [ Q Standar d] and cannot be changed.
Video 65 Pre-Rec ording The camcord er will start r ecording 3 seconds befor e you pr ess g , ensu rin g yo u do no t miss importa nt sh oot ing oppo rtun i - ties. Thi s is especially usef ul when it is diff icult to pred ict when to start reco rd ing .
66 Video Face Detection The camcor der automati cally detects people’ s faces and uses this information to select the optimal settings for beautiful videos and pho- tos. POINTS TO CH ECK • Selec t a recording program oth er th an [ q Night Scene], [ p Low Light] or [ M Fireworks].
Video 67 • Face detecti o n cannot be used when the shut ter speed used is slow er than 1/30 (1/24 if th e frame rate is set to [ E PF24]) or when the digi- tal zoom is a ctivated at mor e than 80x zoom.
68 Video Video S naps hot Recor d a series of short scenes or captur e short scenes from a movie you have previously recorded. Play your video snapshot scen es set to your favorite mus ic ( 0 82) to create your own fun music video. Y ou will be surprised how by changing the b ackground music, you can give your scenes an entire ly new feel.

Manual Exposure Adjustment At times, bac klit subjec ts may appear too dark (under exposed) or sub- jects under ve ry strong lights m ay appear too bright or glaring (overex- posed).

Video 77 Using Headphones Use head phones for p layba ck or t o check the audio l ev el w hile r ecord- ing. T he headpho nes ar e connecte d to the A V OUT/ X terminal, which is used for both the headphones and t he audio/v ideo output.

90 Video Galler y and Scene O perations Managing Stories The gallery initi ally contains two group s, [Unsorted] for your r egular scenes and [ V ideo Snapshot ] for your vid eo snapsho t scenes. In add i- tion, you can create new gr oups, or “sto ries”, which contain scenes of your choosing, arranged in an order to your liking.
Video 91 To delete indivi dual scenes 1 F rom the gallery screen, select th e story that contain s the scene to delete. 2 Dele te the scene. • The sce ne is delete d and the ga llery scr een appears. To de lete scen es by rating Y ou can delete all the scenes in a story with a p articular rating.
92 Video To delete a story Y ou can dele te new sto ries that you have c reated . 1 From the gallery screen, select the s tory to delete . Drag yo ur finge r right /left to br ing the desired sto ry to the fron t. 2 Delete the story . * T ouch [Stop] to interrupt the operation while it is in progr e ss.
Video 93 4 T ouch [Move] or [Copy]. Thumbnai ls of ea ch stor y (excep t for [U nsorte d] and [V ideo Snap shot]) will appear . 5 T o uch the thumbnail of the story where y ou want to move or copy the scenes. If you ar e movi ng or co pying s cenes to an empty story , sk ip to step 7.
94 Video 4 Move the scenes. • Th e scene s ar e move d an d the ga llery screen o f t he sour ce story appea rs. IMPORT AN T • Y ou cannot move or copy scenes to [U nsorted] or [Video Snapshot].
