Exif Print This printer supports ExifPrint. Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the comm unication between digita l cam eras and printers. By connecting to an Exif Print-complia nt digital camera, the camera’ s imag e data at the time of shooting is used and optimized, yielding extremely high quality prints.
1 Preface Shipping Material s Thank you for pur chasing a Canon Bubble Je t Printer . Check that all the following items are in the box. If anything is missing or is damaged, contact your Canon Servi ce Represe ntative.
2 Setting Up 1 Pr e parin g the Printer 1 Place the printer on a flat surface. 2 Remove the p acking material and tape from the printer as shown. The tape po sition is subject to change. 2 Connecting the Print er to the Comput er Either a USB cable or parallel printer cable is available for iP4000.
3 Follow the step s below to inst all the p rinter driver correctly . 1 Ensure that the printer and the computer are turned of f. 2 Connect the cable. Figure A shows the USB cable connection. Figure B shows the printer cable (parallel) connection (iP4000 only).
4 3 Installing the Print Head • Never attempt to plug the power cord into the power outlet or unplug the power cord when your hands are wet. • Never damage, modify , stretch, or excessively bend or twist the power cord. Do not place heavy objects on the power cord.
5 6 Remove the protective cap from the Print Head. 7 Place the Print Head in the holder . 8 Lock the Print Head into place by lowering the lever . Do not touch the lever once the Print Head has been installed. • Do not touch th e Print Head Nozzles or electrical contacts.
6 Inst alling the Ink T anks • For safety reasons, store ink tanks out of the reach of small children. • Do not drop or shake ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out and st ain your clothes and han ds. • Be sure to remove the clear film from the i nk tank in the exact order as shown in step 2.
7 5 Use the same procedure to install the other ink t anks into their appropriate slots. Check the labels to make sure that each tank is in the correct position. 6 Put back the Inner Cover and close th e T op Cover . • Only install the ink tanks in the p ositions specified by the labels.
8 4 Loading P a per This section describes how to load paper in the Sh eet Feeder . When performing the print head alignment, you need to load paper in the Sheet Feeder . Loading A4 (Letter) Size Plai n Paper in the Sheet Feeder 1 Pull out the Paper Support and Paper Output T ray completely as shown.
9 5 Installing the Printer Driv er Inst alling the Printe r Driver – Windows 1 Ensure that the printer and compu ter are turned of f. 2 T urn on the computer and st art Windows. If any applications automatically run, q uit them. Disable any anti-virus programs.
10 3 Place the Setup Sof tware & User ’ s Guide CD-ROM in the CD-ROM dr ive. 4 Follow the instructions disp layed on screen. When the screen shown on the left is displa yed, click Easy Inst all . 5 When the list of applications to inst all appears, verify the content s, click Inst all , then follow the instructions on the screen.
11 9 When the On-screen Ma nual screen appears, click Next . 10 When the screen shown on t he left appears, ensure that a sheet of A4/ Letter-sized plain p aper is loaded in the Sheet Feeder . Click Execute and Print Head Alignment to carry out print head alignment.
12 4 Double-click PIXMA iP4000 xxx.pkg or PIXMA iP3000 xxx.pkg . “x” represents a number . 5 Click Continu e . 6 Read the License Agreement an d click Continue , then click Agree . 7 Select a destination to where you want to inst all the printer driver , and click Continue .
13 6 Aligning the Print Head Aligning the Print Head positions allows you to print without shifts in the color registration. Aligning the Print Head – Windows 1 Click Star t and select Control Panel , Printers and Other Ha rdware , and then Printers and Faxes .
14 5 Read the messa ge and click Print Head Alignment . It takes a bout 60 seconds to s tart printing. Do not open the T op Cover while printing. 6 If a message warning you not to perform other operations appears, click OK . 7 Ensure the p attern shown on the lef t is printed.
15 2 Double-click the Printer Setup Utility icon. When using versions of Mac OS other than Mac OS X v .10.3.x, double-click the Print Center icon. 3 Select your printer from the Name list and click Utility . When using versions of Mac OS other than Mac OS X v .
16 Basic Operations • If you detect smoke, unus ual smells or strange noises around the printer , immediately switch the printer off and always unplug the printer . 18 Basic Printing Settings For the best print qualit y , specify the minim um requirement settings in the Main tab. T o get the best results, e nsure you select th e type of media loaded in the printer when printing on paper other than plain paper .
19 Printing with Macint osh Adjusting the print settings according to your need s allows you to produce better quality prints. Printing 1 Open the Page Setup dialog b ox in your application. From the File menu, click Page Setup . Check the application’ s users manual for the actual procedures.

21 Print Head Maintenance If Blurring Occurs or If a S p ecific Color Does Not Print Perform Print Head Cleaning to improve the print quality . Ensure that the printer is tu rned on and follow the instructio ns below . • W indows Open the printe r driver setti ngs screen and cli c k the Mai ntenance tab.

23 Appendix Printing Photo gr a phs Dir ectl y fr om a Digi tal Camer a Connecting a digital still camera or camcorder to the printer allows you to print recorded images directly without using a computer . This printer supports both “PictBridge” and Canon “Bubble Jet Direct.
