18 Prepa ratio ns • We recomm end th at you prepa re batter y packs to last 2 to 3 times longer than you thi nk you might need. Prep aring t he Acc essor ies Fasten the grip belt. Adjust the gr ip belt so that you can r each the zoom leve r with your index fi nger , and the button with your thumb.
Prep aration s 19 To attach an optional wris t strap Pass the attaching end of the wrist strap through the rear bracket on the camcorder , thread the w rist strap through the loop and fasten. 20 Prepa ratio ns LCD Backlight When re cor ding in b right pl aces i t may be difficult to use th e LCD screen. T ur n on the LCD backli ght to make it brighter . With th e cam cor der on, hold pres sed do wn for more tha n 2 seconds. Repeat this act ion to switch the LCD backlight between off (normal) and on (bri ght) .

26 Prepa ratio ns First Ti me Settings Setting the Date and Time Y ou will need to set the date and time o f the camcor der befor e yo u can star t using it. The [Date/Time ] screen will appear a utomatical ly whe n the cam- corder’ s clock is not set.
Prep aration s 27 Changing the Language The default lang uage of the cam- cord er is English. Y ou can set it to one of 26 other languages. NOTES • The displays and that appear in some menu scr e ens r e fer to the name of buttons on the c amcor der and will not change, regardless of the language sel e cted .
28 Prepa ratio ns Using a Memor y Card Memor y Cards Com patible for Us e with the Camco rder Y ou can use c ommercia lly available Secure Digital (S D) car ds with t his camcor der . However , depending on the memory car d, you may not be able to recor d movies.
Prep aration s 29 SDXC Memory Cards As of May 2010, SDXC memory cards have been tested to work under Windows 7. Fo r details on whether y our computer's operating system is SDXC-co mpatible, check with your co mputer's m anufacturer .

Video 47 Advanced Functions Automatic Exposure and Special Scene Recording Programs The r ecordi ng pr ogram determi nes how much contr ol you have over the camcor d er’ s recor ding-related setting s. Select the [ Pro- grammed AE] recording program to give you full control over functions like the white ba lance or image effects.
