About the Set up Menu When you in sert the inclu ded Setup disc into the computer’s CD drive , the menu sho wn belo w should appe ar. If th e menu does not app ear, use Expl orer to access the CD drive and execute the file “SETUP.

2-6 Chapter 2 Setup 4. Connecting the Scanner to the Computer There are two met hods for con necting the DR-X10C scan ner to a comput er: a USB connect ion to a standa rd USB port built i n to the co mputer, or S CSI co nnecti on to a SCSI ca rd instal led in an expan sion sl ot of the comput er.

2-8 Chapter 2 Setup IMPORTANT Observe t he following when conn ecting th e scanner with other devices in a “daisy chain”. • The SCSI ID of the sc anner is set to “SCSI ID = 2” by defau lt. When using a dai sy-chain conf iguration with ot her SCSI device s, set the DIP switc hes so that SCSI ID nu mbers are not duplicated in t he system.

Turning the Power ON and OFF Use the power switch to turn t he DR-X10C scanner ON and OF F, or if you are u sing a US B connecti on, you can set th e USB-linked power switch. CAUTION • After turning the sca nner OFF, wait at leas t ten seconds bef ore turning it back ON.

By setting CapturePerfect for full-screen display be fore scannin g, scanned i mages are displa yed at full size on the screen.

3-19 Chapter 3 Basic Operati on How to Use Patchcode Sheets This section describe s how to use patchcode sh eets with Captu rePerf ect 3.0. 1. Print the p atchcod e sheets on a printer. IMPORTANT • Print (at or iginal size) PATCH T (A4) and PATCH II (A 4) sheets on A4 paper, or PATCH T (LTR) and PATCH II (LTR ) on LTR paper.

5-2 Chapter 5 Maintenance 1. Regular Maintenance To maintain scanning quality, rou tinely clea n the scanner as described below. CAUTION • Do not use spray cleaners t o clean the scanner . Precisi on mechanisms may get wet an d malfuncti on. • Never us e paint thinn er, alcohol, or ot her organ ic solvents to clean the sca nner.
5-3 Chapter 5 Maintenance Cleaning the Glass and Rollers If scanne d imag es contai n spots or do cument s become di rty after scannin g, the scanning glass or transpo rt rollers inside the scan ner may be d irty. The locati ons of the main gl ass and rollers are as follows.
5-4 Chapter 5 Maintenance Hint An error mes sage appears o n the disp lay panel if t he upper unit is open (raised ). Cleaning Rollers wit h a Cleaning Sheet Rollers in the transport path are cl eaned usin g the Cleani ng Mode of the User Mode , using a cl eaning sheet.
5-5 Chapter 5 Maintenance 6. Insert th e cleani ng sheet a dhesive -side up i nto the feed inlet. The cleani ng sheet fee ds through the scan ner, and t he Cleanin g Mode exits . 7. Inspec t the clea ning sheet fo r dust. 8. Repea t steps 3 to 6 seve ral times using th e same cleani ng sheet t o clean t he same sid e of the rol lers.
5-6 Chapter 5 Maintenance 3. Wipe an y dust off the scan ning gla ss with a c lean, dry cloth . 4. Press th e Stop key to turn off the lamp. 5. Careful ly lower the u pper unit ( a ). Press down on both si des of the upper uni t to ensure that it is secur ely cl osed .
5-7 Chapter 5 Maintenance 3. Clean the black a nd white surfaces of the rol lers by wipin g horizontall y with a m oistened , wrung-out cloth . IMPORTANT When clean ing, be careful not to bend the sheet over the rolle r. The locat ion of t he sheet f or the l ower platen roller is in front of the roller.
5-8 Chapter 5 Maintenance 3. Lift the p ickup rol ler mounti ng lever, and remove th e roller. 4. Pull the f eed roller lock lever d own ( a ) and move it to the right ( b ) to unloc k the feed roller. 5. Remove the fee d roller. 6. Use a moi stened, well wrung-out cl oth to wipe off any dust from the rolle rs.
5-9 Chapter 5 Maintenance 3. Push t he feed roll er lock le ver up ( a ) an d move it to the left ( b ) to lock the feed rol ler in pla ce. 4. Push the roller cov er up unti l it clicks into pla ce. IMPORTANT When opening and closing the rol ler cover, be careful not to touch the glass (staple detection wind ow).

5-12 Chapter 5 Maintenance 2. Replacing the Transport Rollers As the roll ers start to wear out, feeding quality de clines, and do cument feed errors, such as p aper jams, b ecome more li kely.
5-13 Chapter 5 Maintenance Checking and Reset ting the Page Count er The roller usage counter ca n be checked and reset usi ng the Roller Count er User Mode setting. IMPORTANT • This counter shows the number of pages transported by th e current ly in stall ed fe ed ro llers .
5-14 Chapter 5 Maintenance 3. Impr inte r Ink Ca rtr idg e Replacement and Cleaning When the opt ional impri nter is used, print ing will beco me faint or no nexistent when th e ink is deplete d. It is recommen ded to k eep a spar e ink car tridg e on han d.
5-15 Chapter 5 Maintenance Replacing Ink Cartri dges Replace the ink ca rtridge us ing the fol lowing proc edure. IMPORTANT After repla cing an ink cart ridge, run a te st print to confi rm proper printing.
5-16 Chapter 5 Maintenance CAUTION Peel off the seal covering th e nozzles of a cartridge only if yo u are going to use it immediately . Also, avoid touc hing the met al conta cts or nozzles of t he ink cartridge. 5. Open th e carriage an d insert a new ink c artridge.
5-17 Chapter 5 Maintenance ■ Replacing the Ink Cartri dge (Post-Impri nter) Replace the P ost-imprint er ink cartridg e using the following pro cedure. 1. Adjust th e document feed guid es outwa rd to allo w access t o the impr inter cove r. 2. Press th e imprinter cover ta b (indica ted by t he arrow in the i llustratio n) to unloc k it.
5-18 Chapter 5 Maintenance CAUTION Peel off the seal covering th e nozzles of a cartridge only if yo u are going to use it immediately . Also, avoid touc hing the met al conta cts or nozzles of t he ink cartridge. 7. Install the new c artridge with the nozzles f acing to th e right.
5-19 Chapter 5 Maintenance Cleaning the Print Heads If the impri nter print h ead nozzles are dirty, prin ting may become streak ed or spott y. To preven t this, periodica lly remove the ink cartridge an d clean t he print hea d with a soft, dry clo th or cotto n swab .
