7 Installing in Windows IMPORTANT • I nstall the software before connecting the scanner to the computer. • Log on to W indows as an Administrator. • Clos e all other applications before inst alling the software. 1 Insert th e Setup Disc into the DVD dr ive of the com puter.

13 STEP 3 Connect ing to a Comp uter Connect the scanner to the computer and the power supply. IMPORTANT • Do not connect the scanner to the computer before installing the soft war e. • B efore connecting the s canner to the comput er, verify that the power of t he scanner is OFF.
14 STEP 4 Turning the Power ON The power of the sc anner can be turned ON and OFF with the power button on the front of the scanner. 1 Make s ure that the scanne r and com puter are connec ted proper ly. 2 Press the powe r button. The power button lights blue when t he power turns ON.

17 Before Using the Sc anner Important Safety In structi ons To ensure the safe operation of this scanner, be sure to read the safety warnings and precautions described below. Installat ion Locat ion The performance of this scanner is affected by the environment in which it is installed.
18 Moving the Scan ner ● When moving the scanner, always hold it with both hands to avoid dropping it. The scanner weighs approximately 2. 4 kg (5.3 lb). ● Make su re to disconnect the interface cable and AC adapt er before moving the s canner. If the scanner is transported with these items connected, the plug s and connector s may be d amaged.
19 ● When unplugging the power cord, grasp it firmly by its plug. Do not pull directly on the p ower cord, as this may damage or expose th e cord’s internal wiring, resulting i n a fire or electric shock. ● Leave sufficient space around the power plug so that it can be unplugged easily.
20 Features of t he Scanner The main features of the document scanner DR-C125 are described below. ● Compact Design The scanner has a compact size of 300 (W) x 336 (H) x 235 (D) (11.81" (W) x 13.2" (H) x 9.25" (D)) mm when the document feed is open.
21 ● Skip Blank Pa ge Funct ion The scanner is e quipped with a Skip Blank Pag e function that enables you to scan a document without storing images of blank pages, regardless of whether eac h page of the document is two- sided or one-sided. Both sides are scanned, but saving the image is skipped for scan images judged to be from a blank page.

24 Basic Operation Do cum ents The scanner can scan docu ments ranging in size from business cards to Legal/A4. The document sizes that this scanner can scan are shown below. Plain Pape r Size Width: 50.8 mm to 216 mm (2" to 8.5") Length: 5 3.

26 How to Place Docum ents Switching the Feed and Eject Metho ds Use the two lev ers on the scanner to switch the feed and eject methods based on the type of document you are scanning. The feed and eject methods and lever positions for each document type are as f ollows.
27 3 When sca nning long document s, pull out the feed extensio n plates and eject sup port. 4 Set the feed se lection lever and the eject selection lev er. Set the feed selection lev er to the standard feeding position (lower position). Set the eject select ion lever to the U- turn path position ( ).
28 6 Place the doc ument. Insert the document in the feed tray so that the front is facing forward and the top is facing upward. After inserting the document in the document feeder, al ign the document guides wit h both edges of the document.
29 Placing Do cuments f or Bypass Feeding When scanning a thick docum ent one page at a time or scanning a document that has multiple pages fastened together, set document feeding to bypass. This enables the placed document to be scanned without the pages being separated, regardless of the number of pages.
30 3 Place the doc ument in th e document feed tray. IMPORTANT • With the straight path, documents are ejected at the front of the scanner. Do not place any thing that will block output near the document eject area. Also, install the scanner on a smooth surface to enable documents to be smoothly ejected.
31 3 Place the ca rd horizontally with the to p edge facing upward. CAUTION • P lace the card one at a time. • I f you place cards to be fed vertically, they may not be ejected properly, and cards that get jammed may be damaged when you remove t hem.
32 Placing Folded Docu ments Folio Scan ena bles you to scan documents that are larg er than LTR/ A4 and therefore do not fit in the feeder. (The maximum size is 11" x 17"/A3.) To use the funct ion, fold the document in half lengthwise and place it into the f eeder.

35 Scanning in Win dows Scanning with Ca ptureOnTouch (Windows) What is Capt ureOnTou ch? CaptureOnTouch is a scanning application t hat allows you to scan a document with a simple operation by following the instruct ions on the screen.
36 [Yes] button, t wo jobs for Everno te are registered to CaptureOnTouch. • The interval between the time you press the Start button on the scanner and the time scanning begins is shortened w hen the [Make CaptureOnTouch resident] check box is selected in the [Basic settings] tab of the [Environm ental settings] dialog box.

41 Hint • Clicking [Return to top] re turns to the top screen of Select Sc an Job. • When [Attach to E-m ail] or [Print] is specified as the outp ut method, you can click [Open storage folder] to open the folder in which the scanned images were saved.
42 Scanner Setti ngs By default, CaptureOnTouch scans with scanning conditions that match the document because scanning in full auto mode is enabled. If you want to specify, for example, the scanning mode and document size, you can conf igure the desired scanning conditi ons in the scanner setti ngs.
43 Page Size Specify the page size of the doc ument. If you specify [Detect automatic ally], the page size of the scanned document is d etected and the images are saved at the detected size.
44 Operation in Continuous Scanning Screen If a document is scanned with either Scan F irst or Select Scan Job when [Enable continuous sc anning] is set to [ON] in the Start sc reen, the continuous scanning screen appear s when all of the pages of the placed document have been fed.
45 Settin g the Outp ut Metho d CaptureOnTouch is provided with various output methods for processing scanned images. The output m ethod specification is com mon to Sc an First and Selec t Scan Job.
46 Environmen tal Sett ings To configure the env ironmental settings of CaptureOnTouc h, open the [Environmental settings] dialog box. Click (CaptureOnT ouch icon) in the taskbar, and select [Environmental settings] from the menu. The following describes the setting items of each tab displayed in the [Environmental settings] dialog box.
47 [Theme] Tab On the [Theme] tab, specify the appearance of the main screen of CaptureOnTouch. Select them e Specify the appearance type for the main screen of C aptureOnTouch with [Select theme]. [Plugin] Tab On the [Plug in] tab, confirm the plugins that have be en added to CaptureOnTouch.
48 Setting the Scann er Driver (Wi ndows) When you scan a document in an ISIS compatible or TWAIN compatible application (CaptureOnTouch, etc.), open the scanner driver and conf igure the scanning condit ions and other settings. This section describes the configuration and functions of the scanner driver.
49 [Image proce ssing] Tab Set the proces sing method for s canned images. [Feeding] Ta b Specify scanner operations related to document feeding. [Others] Tab Configure settings for spec ialized scanning and image processing.
50 Page Size Select the page size that matches the document to be scanned. If [Match original size] is selected, t he edges of the document are detected and images that match the size of the doc ument are saved. Dots per inch Select the scanning resolution.
51 Configuring Scanner Settings According to Purpose Set the scanning conditions according to the scanning purpose. When you wa nt to delet e the imag es of the blank pages in two-sided docu ments Set the scanning side setting to [Skip Blank Page] on t he [Basic] tab to delete the images of t he blank pages in the document.

54 • Set [Batch S eparation] on the [Others] tab to [Auto] or [Panel]. When [Batch Sepa ration] is set t o [Auto], the batch is separated after the next document is placed and sc anning is continued. When [Panel] is set, the batch is separated af te r the [B atch Separation] check box of “Scan Panel” on p.
55 Hint The following shows the setting conditions that can be set in the multistre am sett ings. When you w ant to save a scan ner driver s etting When you finish configuring a set ting, click the [Save] button of [User Preference] to sa ve the setting.
56 Function Restrictions Depending on Mode Se tting Some of the setting items in each of t he driver tabs are di sabled as follows depending on the setting for [Color Mode] on the [ Basic] tab.
57 Scan Panel Scan Panel is software for controlling scanning operations such as feeding documents and stopping scanning when scanning multiple documents one after the other. Scan Panel runs when [Feeding Option] is set to [Panel-Feeding] in the settings dialog box of the sca nner driver.
58 4 Click [N ext]. 5 Click [Advanced settings] when the following screen appears . Hin t This wizard was not started for the purpose of performing a scanner test s o we recommend clearing all of t he checkboxes displayed for [ Please select the steps you want to run].

65 When [Check output after sc anning] is se t to [ON] The Output Confirmation screen appears before the scanned images are output. Change the settings for the output method if necessary and then click the output button. The name of t he output button differs for each selected output method.
66 When Selec t Scan Jo b: For Select Scan Job, configure the scanner settings for each job. Setting Basic It ems Scanner settings include the basic items that are conf igured in [Scanner setting], and the setting items that are configured in the advanced settings dialog box.
67 Hint The driver settings dialog box includes setting items that are t he same as the basic items in [Scanner se tting], but the setting for each of the them is stored separately. Which settings are used during scanning differs as follows depending on the setting of the [Us e advanced settings dialog box] check box.
68 C Preview Controls Control the preview im ages and cancel or continue scanning with the following buttons. Settin g the O utput Me thod CaptureOnTouch is provided with various output methods for processing scanned images. The output method specification is common to Scan First and Select Scan Job.
69 Print Prints the scanned images with a specified printer. W hen you specify this output method, s pecify the printer for printing. Send to ap plic atio n Saves the scanned image file in a specified folder and t hen opens it with a specified applicat ion.
70 [E-mail settings] Tab On the [E-mail settings] tab, set the maxim um size for t he image files to be attached to e-mail. Maximum size of atta ched file Select the [Display confirmation message if file size exceeds the above] check box to display a confirmation message when an attached file exceeds the maximum size.
71 Setting the Scann er Driver (Mac OS X) When you scan a document in an TWAIN compatible application (CaptureOnTouch, etc. ), open the sc anner driver and c onfigure the scanning conditions and o ther settings. This section des cribes the how to open and t he functions of the scanner driver.
72 Setting Basic Scan ning Condi tions This sectio n provides an over view of the basic setting items that are the minimum requirements when conf iguring the scanner se ttings.
73 Scanning Documents of Unregistered Page Sizes Configuring the following settings allows you to scan a document of an unregistered page size. When scanning a document of a non-standard page size, select [Add/ Delete] for [Page Size] to display the [Add/Delet e Page Size] dialog box.
74 When you do not want to scan colored lines and te xt Click [Image proc essing] and spe cify the color (r ed, blue, or green) to be ignored (dropped out) in the dialog box which appears, and that color will not be scanned.
75 When you wa nt to match the orien tation of ima ges to the text when scanning a mixtu re of pag es with d ifferent te xt orientations Select the [Text Orientation Recognition] check box. The text orientation on each page is detected, and t he scanned image is rotated in 90 -degree increments to cor rect the orientation .

79 Maintena nce Daily Mainte nance Clean the scanner on a regular basis, as described below, to maintain peak scanning quality. WARNING • When cleaning the scanner and the inside of the scanner, turn OFF the power sw itch and disconnect th e power cord f rom the power outlet.
80 3 Clean th e scanning glass. Wipe the scanning glass with a cloth t hat has been dampened with water and thorou ghly wrung out, and then use a dry, soft cloth to wipe away any moisture. CAUTION Do not spray water or neutral d etergent directly on t he scanner.
81 6 Wipe the rem oved rollers with a cloth tha t has been dampen ed with water and thorough ly wrung out. 7 Reattac h the reta rd roll er and fee d roller. (See p. 86, p. 85) 8 Close the front unit by gen tly pushin g it up on both s ides until it cl icks into place.
82 11 Clean the ro llers inside t he d ocument eject p ocket . Wipe the rollers with a cloth that has been dampened with water and thoroughly wrung out, and then use a dry, soft cloth to wipe away any m oisture.
83 4 Click the [Ma intenance] tab and the n change the value of [Reduct ion ratio adju stment]. The adjustment value can be set within t he range from -3.0% to 3.0%. 5 Click [O K] to close th e scanne r propert ies. Replac ing Con sumable Parts The two rollers (f eed roller and retard ro ller) installed in the s canner are consumable parts.
84 Opening and C losing the Front Unit 1 Open the doc umen t feed tray. Press th e OPEN button an d pull open the front unit towa rd you. Hin t The location of each of t he consumable parts is shown below. 2 When closing the fron t unit, make sure that it is completely closed by gently pres sing the left and right until you hea r a click.
85 Replacing the Feed Roller 1 Open t he roller cov er. 2 Slide the f eed roller to the left, and then remove it. 3 Install the new feed roller. When installing the fe ed roller, align the notch on th e roller wi th the shaft of the fr ont unit. 4 Slide the ro ller to the l ight to secur e it.
86 Replacing the Retard Roller 1 Open t he roller cov er. 2 Rem ove the retar d ro ller and then insta ll the new r etard roller. When installing t he feed roller, align the notch on the roller wit h the shaft of the ma in unit. 3 Close th e roller cov er.
87 4 Click the [Ma intenance] tab, and cl ick [Reset] . The counter for [Current Rollers] resets. 5 Click [O K] to close th e scanne r propert ies. Under Mac O S X 1 Start Ca ptureOnTouch . 2 Click [S can Firs t]. 3 Click [OFF] next to [ Scans in the full auto mode].
88 Auto Po wer Off Set ting The scanner automatically turns off if 4 hours elapse without scanning or another operation being performed. To disable this s etting, follow the procedure below. 1 Start Windows and log in as a user with administra tor privileges.
89 Troublesh ooting Common Problems and Solutions This section prov ides recom mended solutions to c ommon problems. If you have a problem that is not solved by the following, contact your local authorized Canon dealer. Problem 1 The scan ner will not turn on.
90 Problem 8 Each scanned image of a m ulti-page document is saved as a separate document. Solutions With CaptureOnTouch, you can scan multiple pages into one image fil e when TIFF or PDF file format is selected. To do this, selec t [File type], click the button, and select [Sav e all pages as one file] in the displayed dialog box.
91 Software Troublesh ooting This section des cribes troubleshooting problem s and solutions f or operating the supplied s oftware (CaptureOnTouch). If scanni ng is too slow (1) Close ot her running programs , if any. (2) Scanning can be slowed down by memory shortage caused by memory-res ident applications such as anti-virus programs.
92 Use ful t ips Here are some useful tips for scanning documents. Where are scanned images saved? Can the save destination be changed? Images are sav ed to the following locations, according to program setti ngs. For examp le, save locations suc h as the following ca n be set in CaptureOnTouch.
93 What’s the best way to scan business cards or photos? Set [Page Size] to [Match original size] (or [Detect aut omatically]) on the scanner driver settings screen, then scan. Alternatively, register the size of the c ards or photos to be sc anned.
94 Clearing a Pape r Jam When paper jams occur during scanning, use t he following procedure to clear them. WARNING Be careful whe n removing jammed paper. It is possible to cut your hand on the ed ge of a sheet of paper. 1 Remove any docum ents th at have been left in the ejec t tray.
95 4 Return t he docume nt eject tray to its original posi tion. Make sure that it is c ompletely closed by pushing until you h ear a cl ick. 5 Press the OPEN button a nd pull o pen the front un it toward you. 6 Remove t he jammed docume nt. IMPORTANT Make sure to pull the document out carefully, without applying too much force.
96 7 Close the front unit by gen tly pushin g it up on both s ides until it cl icks into place. Make su re that the front unit is compl etely closed by pushin g until you hear a click. After removing the jammed paper, check to see if the last page was scanned correctly, and then c ontinue scanning.
97 Uninstalling the Software If the scan driver, CaptureOnTouch is not operating normally, f ollow the procedure below to uninstall them. Then, re-install the software from the Setup disc. (S ee p. 7, p. 10) Uninstal ling o n Windo ws IMPORTANT Log on to Wind ows as an A dministrator.
