5 Introduction Ho w to select a D VD disc There are many types of DVD discs but this ca mcorder uses only the following three types of 8 cm mini DVD discs: DVD-R, DVD-R DL and D VD-RW . Note that what you can do with a disc depends on the type of DVD used so select the disc that best fits your purpose.
6 No need to worry about recordin g over a tape. When you use a DVD, the camcorder will autom atically record on the e mpty space of the disc. So you don't have to worry about mistakenly recordi ng over a precious memory . Just select a scene from the in dex screen.
7 Introduction A vailabl e featur es depend on th e DVD disc used 1 Disc initialization clea rs all the recordings on the di sc and restores the free space on the d isc to its initial value so you can use th e same disc again. DVD-R and DVD-R DL discs cannot be initialize d.

Recording Basic Functions 35 About the P ower Sa ve mode : T o save power when the camcorder is powered by a battery pack, the camcorder will automatically shut o ff if left without any oper ations for 5 minutes ( 50). T o restore the power , slide the power switch toward MODE and release it, or move the power switch to and back to ON again.

Managing the Disc Editing Fu nctions 71 Managing th e Disc Protecting the Disc Y ou can protect the whole disc to prevent the accidental erasure of important recordings. Follow the same procedure to remove the protection of a protected disc. IMPORT ANT Initializing the disc ( 71) will permanently erase all recordings, even if the disc is protected.
Managing the Disc 72 * Close the menu only af ter the screen display returns to th e [DISC OPERA TIONS] menu. Changing the Disc Title Before you finalize yo ur disc*, you can give it a title. The disc title will be displayed on the index screen when playing the finalized disc in most DVD players.
Managing Photos Editing Fu nctions 73 Managing P hotos Erasing Photos Y ou can e rase still images recorded on the memory card or on the disc (DVD-RW only). IMPORT ANT Be careful when erasin g images. Erased images cannot be recovered. NOTES Protected images on the memory card and images on a protected disc cannot be era sed.
Managing Photos 74 Copyin g Phot os Y ou can copy st ill images recorded on the memory card to the disc (for example, to add them to a Photomovie scene ( 74)), or from the disc to the memory card (for example, to set print or ders for a DPOF compatible printer ( 96)).

Managing Photos 76 Initializing the Memor y Card Initialize memory cards when you use them with this camcor der for the first time. Y ou ma y also have to init ialize a card if you get the “CARD ERROR” message or you may choose to do so to erase all dat a recorded on it.
Playing Back the Disc on an External Device 77 Playing Back the Disc on an Extern al Device T o play the disc you recorded on a DVD player , a compute r ’s DVD drive or other digital device, you need to finalize it first. Y ou do not need to finalize the disc to play back your recordings with the camcorder connected to the TV .
78 Finalizing the Disc The length of the finalization process depends on the scenes recorded and the remaining free space on the disc. POINTS TO CHECK Power the camcorder using the compact power adapter . * Only when using a DVD-RW recorde d in VR mode.
Playing Back the Disc on an External Device 79 Unfinalize a disc to allow recording additional movies on the disc even af ter it was finalized. IMPORT ANT Be sure to unfinaliz e the disc in normal room temperatures. If the procedure w as not completed correctl y due to high tempe r ature, le t the camcorder cool off before resuming opera tion.
