3 An Intr oduction to D VDs Y ou have probably h eard of DVD discs and they come in various types an d in two sizes - the more common 12 cm DVDs an d 8 cm Mini DVDs. Thi s camcorder uses 8 cm DV D-R discs (lik e the supplied on e) or DVD-RW discs (commercial ly available).

Push the OPE N button and gently open the disc cover fully until it stops. • Retract th e grip belt under the camcorder s o it will not get in the way of the disc cover .
30 When using a DVD-RW: Y ou need to ini tializ e the disc befor e you can start recor ding. The Disc I nitializ ation screen will appear wh en a DVD-RW is first i nserted. It will not ap pear when in serting a d isc already ini tialized. In that ca se, you can start re cording on ce the recor d pause indicatio n appears.

40 Image Jump Function Y ou can also qu ickly loc ate a specifi c image withou t having to br owse all of the m one by one. The numbe r in the upper right of the screen indicates the number of the cu rrent image ou t of the total n umber of images. Push the omni selector ( ) and keep it pressed down.

Portrait The camcorder uses a la rge aperture, achieving a focus on the subject while blurring other dist racting de tails.

88 Protecting the Disc Y ou can pro tect the whol e disc in order to prevent the accide ntal erasure of i mportant recordin gs. Available only wit h DVD-RW discs recor ded in VR mode. Initializ ing the d isc ( 8 9) will per manently e rase all recordings, even if th e disc is protected.
