6 You can enjoy using this came ra in the rain , on the beach, while skiin g, or underwater within a dep th of 10 m (33 f t.). However, it can not be used in hot springs or other mine ralized wate rs.
Cautions When Using this Waterproof, Dustproof, and Shock Resistant Camera 7 • Rinse off the c amera if the re is liqui d or sand on it after use. The liquid may soil or corr ode the camera, and wiping t he camera when sand is on it may scratch it .
8 • Before using the product, please ensure that you read the safety precautions described below. Always ensure that the product is used correctly. • The safety precautions noted on the following pages are intended to prevent injuries to yourself and other persons, or damage to the equipment.
Safety Precautions 9 • Use only the recommended battery. • Do not place the battery near or in direct flame. • Unplug the power cord periodically, and using a dry cloth, wipe away any dust and dirt that has collected on the plug, the exterior of the power outlet, and the surrounding area.
Safety Precautions 10 • Viewing images on t he camera scr een for prolonged periods may cau se discomfort . Caution Denotes the possibility of damage to the equipment. • Do not aim the camera at bright light sources (such as the sun on a clear day).
11 Prepare for shooting as fol lows. Attach the strap. z After attach ing the strap to the strap mo unt, insert the strap mount into the soc ket on the camera and turn until it clicks. z To remove th e strap mount , hold the release button whi le turning t he strap mou nt countercloc kwise.
Initial Preparations 12 Charge the battery. z For CB-2LY: Fl ip out the plug ( ) a nd plug the charger int o a power outlet ( ). z For CB-2LYE: Plug the power cord into the charger, th en plug the othe r end into a power outlet. X The charging lamp turns ora nge and charging be gins.
Initial Preparations 13 Insert the i ncluded ba ttery and a me mory card (s old separa tely). Note that before using a new memory card (or a memory card formatted in another device), you should format the memory card with this camera (see Camera User Gui de ).
Initial Preparations 14 Close the cover. z Lower the cove r in the dire ction of the arr ow and press it until it cl icks into th e closed position. z Make sure t he lock retu rns to the po sition shown, with t he red mark no lo nger visible. Remove t he battery .
Initial Preparations 15 A screen for se tting the dat e and time is di splayed the f irst time you tur n the camera on. Be su re to specify t he date and time , which is the ba sis for dates and times add ed to your image s. Turn the camera on. z Press the power button .
Initial Preparations 16 Adjust the date and ti me as follows. Access the camera menu. z Press the n button. Choose [Date/Time]. z Press the zoom buttons t o choose th e 3 tab. z Press the op buttons t o choose [Date/ Time], and th en press the m button.
Initial Preparations 17 The display language can be changed as neede d. Enter Playback mode. z Press the 1 button. Access the setting screen. z Press and hol d the m button, and then immediately pr ess the n button. Set the disp lay languag e. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se a language, an d then press the m butt on.
18 Follow th ese instru ctions to turn the c amera on, shoot stil l images o r movies, and then view the m. For fully auto matic selectio n of the optimal set tings for spec ific scenes, s imply let the camer a determine t he subject and shooting con ditions.
Trying the Camera Out 19 Compose the shot. z To zoom in and e nlarge the s ubject, pre ss the i (telephoto) zo om button, and to zoom away from the su bject, pre ss the j (wide angle) zoom bu tton. Shoot. Shooting Still Images Focus. z Press the shu tter button lightly, halfway down.
Trying the Camera Out 20 Shooting Movies Start shoo ting. z Press the movie b utton. The camera beeps once as re cording begi ns, and [ Rec] is displayed w ith the elapsed time. X Black bars di splayed on th e top and bottom edges of the screen indic ate image area s not recorded.

To view the n ext image, press the r button. z To access Scro ll Display mod e, press and hold the qr buttons fo r at least on e second. In this mode , press the qr but tons to brows e through image s.
Trying the Camera Out 22 You can ch oose an d erase un needed i mages one by one. B e careful when erasing image s, because they can not be recovered . Choose an image to erase . z Press the qr button s to choose an ima ge. Erase the image. z Press the m bu tton, press the op buttons to choose a , and t hen press the m button again.
23 The softwar e and PDF manuals on the included CD-ROM are intr oduced below, with instructi ons for insta llation, sav ing images to a computer, and using the PDF manua ls. After instal ling the soft ware on the CD-ROM, you c an do the fo llowing thin gs on your computer .

For detail s about USB connec tions on the c omputer, re fer to the computer user manu al. Install th e files. z Turn the camera on , and follow the on-sc reen instruction s to complet e the instal lation process.
