4 Indicators The camera indicators will light or blink under the following cond itions. • Upper Indicator • Lower Indicator Never do the following while the indicator blinks gre en.
5 Preparations 1. Installing the batteries. 1. Slide the memory card slot /battery cover lock in the direction of the arrow and op en the cover. 2. Insert the 2 supplied AA-size alka line batteries, or separately sold AA-size NiMH ba tteries. 2. Inserting the Memory Card.
6 To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger until the memory card clicks and then release it. You can use SD memory cards, SDHC memory car ds and MultiMedi aCards wit h this c amera. These cards are collectively called memory cards in this guide.
7 Preparations First Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( a ). 2. Use the or button to select an item an d the or button to change its valu e ( b ). 3. Confirm that the correct t ime is displayed and press th e FUNC./SET butto n ( c ).

The start-up sound will play and the start- up image will display in the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power button again turns the power off. • Pressing the power button while pressing and holding the DISP. button will turn on the mute setting which will mute all sounds except for warning sounds.
9 Shooting 2. Press the shutter butt on fully to shoot. The shutter soun d will play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the image is recorded to the memo ry card. Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
10 Shooting Modes Auto The camera automatically select s settings. Image zone When a shooting mode appropriate fo r the shooting co nditions is selected, the camera automatically adjusts setting s for optimal shooting. Portrait Blurs the background and makes a perso n stand out.

12 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 35 mm – 210 mm (focal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. The zoom bar appears when you press the zoom lever. Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cycle through flash settings.
13 Shooting Red-eye reduction: This feature reduces the effect of light reflecting back from the eyes and making them appear red. Auto with red-eye reduction The flash fires a utomatically and fi res the red- eye reduction lamp each time. Auto The flash fire s automatically.
14 Setting the Red-Eye Reduction Function You can set whether the camera automatically performs red-eye reduction when the flash fires. 1. (R ec.) Menu [Red-Eye] [On] */[Off]. * Default setting. Setting the Slow Synchro Function The flash timing is adjusted to slow shutter speeds.
15 Shooting Shooting Close-ups (Macro) 1. Press the butt on. When using the zoom in macro mode, a yellow bar appear s below the zoom bar to indicate the ra nge in which you cannot use macro mode to shoot the subject. If the zoom bar enters the yellow bar range, the macro mode icon will turn gray.
16 Using the Self-Timer 1. FUNC. Menu * (Drive Mode) / / . * Default setting. • When the shutter button is pressed fully, the self-timer lamp will blink. When using red-eye reduction, the self-timer lamp will blink and then stay lit for the last 2 seconds.
17 Shooting Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots () 1. FUNC. Menu (Drive Mode) (Custom Timer). 2. Press the MENU button. 3. Select [Delay] or [Shots] using the or button and change the settings us ing the or button. Î See Menus and Settings (p.
18 1. Set the mode switch to (playback)( a ) . The last image that was played back appears (Resume Playback). If additional images were shot after viewing images in playback mode, the last image that was shot will appear instead.
19 Playback/E rasing 1. In the playback mode, use the or button to select an image to erase ( a ) and press the button ( b ). 2. Confirm that [Erase] is selected and press the FUNC./SET button ( c ). To exit instead of erasing, select [Cancel]. Erasing Please note that erased images can not be recovered.
20 Settings for the shooting, playback or print modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using the FUNC., Rec., Play, Print, Set up or My Camera menu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets many of the common shooting functions. a Set the mode switch to (shoot ing).

23 Printing 2. Turn on the power in play back mode and confirm that , or is displayed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( a ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary according to the printer model. • will display for movies.
24 The following methods can be used to download images recorded by the camera to a computer. Some methods, depending on the OS used, may not be available.
25 Downloading Imag es to a Compute r System Requirements Please install the software on a computer meeting the follow ing minimum requirements. Windows Macintosh * EOS Utility (software for EOS DIGITAL series cameras) is only supported by PowerPC.

27 Downloading Imag es to a Compute r 2. Connecting the came ra to a computer. 1. Use the supplied int erface cable to connect the com puter’s USB port to the camera’s DIGITAL terminal. Slip your fingernail under the rig ht edge of the camera’s terminal cover, lift it open and plug the interface cable in all the way.
28 Downloading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer. 1. Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (first time only). 2. Download the images. • Download the images using the camera or the computer.
29 Downloading Imag es to a Compute r Downloading Images to a Computer The following window will appear when you estab lish a connection between the camera and computer. If it fails to appear, click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
30 Downloading Images Using the Camera (Direct Transfer) Use this meth od to download imag es using camera operations . Install the supplied software and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p. 26). 1. Confirm that the Direct Transfer menu is displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor.
31 Downloading Imag es to a Compute r Select & Transfer/Wallpaper 2. Select or , and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to down load and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will download. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
