11 T o power on, connect the power cable and w ait for 10 seconds , then press the power butt on. T o power off , press the pow er button twice. 2 Info LED If there is a status message, the amber inf o LED will light up. Check the L CD panel to see the status message.
12 This second Ethernet port may be used for network redundancy or backup. Y ou may connect a second T eraStation directly to this port for backup. 19 Po wer C onnector Use the included power cable t o connect to an UPS, surge protector , or outlet. 20 Fa n Do not block the fan.
13 2 Right-click your T eraStation's icon and select Settings . F or Mac OS, select the T eraStation's icon while holding down the contr ol key , then select Settings . 3 Enter the username and passwor d, then click OK . Note: The default username and passwor d are "admin" and "passwor d" .
14 4 Settings will open. 5 Click at the top-right of Settings and choose either Restar t or Shut Down . When all the LEDs on the front of the T eraStation turn off, the shut down process is c omplete. Changing the A dministra tor P assw ord After initial setup , follow this proc edure to change your passw ord.
15 2 Right-click on your T eraStation's icon and select Settings . On the Mac, select the T eraStation's icon while holding down the contr ol key , then select Settings .
16 5 If this screen is displayed , enter the current passw ord and click OK . The default passw ord is "passwor d" . 6 Enter the new passwor d (twice) and click Next .
17 1 Inser t a 1 GB or larger USB flash drive int o a USB por t on the T eraSta tion. Note: All data on the USB flash drive will be erased! 2 In Settings, navigate to Management - Restor e/Erase - USB Options . 3 Select Create a USB drive for initializing settings .
18 Chapter 2 C onfigura tion Configure and manage y our T eraStation using the Settings inter face, ac cessible from a bro wser window . Open the interface using the procedure below or type the T eraSta tion's IP address in the URL field of your br owser .
19 3 Enter the username and passwor d and click OK . Notes: • If the time -out period is set to "10 minutes" , you will be logged out of Settings after 10 minutes of inactivity. • Click Secure Connection to log in with an encrypted connection.
20 • Click to open Easy Admin. • Click to play a tone fr om the T eraStation for easy location. • Y ou can also use Bonjour to log in to Settings from OS X 10.4 or later . I n Safari, click View - Show Bookmarks Bar . F rom Bookmarks, click Bonjour - T er aStation name .
21 3 Click Easy Admin . 4 The Easy Admin scr een will open. Notes: • If you click any buttons , y ou will need to enter a username and passwor d. • In Advanced Settings, click the icon a t the top left to open Easy Admin.
22 Chapter 3 A cc ess Restric tions Y ou may restrict access to specific shar ed folders, including e xternal USB drives. Notes: • Access r estrictions can be set separately for each shared f older , but not for folders within the shared f olders.
23 4 Configure the desir ed settings, then click OK . Notes: • Names may contain up to 27 alphanumeric characters , hyphens (-), and underscor es (_). Do not use a symbol as the first character in a name. • The description may contain up t o 75 alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), underscor es (_), and spaces.
24 • The follo wing characters are handled differ ently by Mac OS and Windo ws. A void using these characters when sharing data between Mac OS and Window s: • Window s does not suppor t some characters that Mac OS and the T eraStation allow .
25 Recycle Bin T o protect your data from ac cidental deletion, you may c onfigure your T eraStation to use a recycle bin instead of deleting files immediately . The r ecycle bin will only work with SMB connections. T o empt y the recycle bin, click F ile Sharing - F older Setup - Empty Rec ycle Bin in Settings.
26 4 Enter the desired settings , then click OK . Notes: • Usernames may contain up t o 128 characters, including hyphens (-), underscor es (_), periods (.), !, #, &, @, $, *, ^, and %. Do not use a symbol as the first character . • The user ID should be a number from 1000 to 1999.

Do not put spaces bef ore or after commas. • I f a line has an incorrect format, the user on tha t line will not be register ed. • I f a username exists, the new user inf ormation will overwrite the old information.

35 Notes: • If you change the T eraStation's name, you will no longer be able t o use domain users and groups or access restrictions. T o repair this, rejoin the domain. • If both read-only and read & write permissions are given to a user , the user will have r ead-only access.
36 4 Select " W orkgroup " and click Next . 5 If a prompt appears, click Ye s . 6 Enter a workgr oup name. Select " Assign authorization to external SMB ser ver" and enter the SMB server's IP address. Y ou can also specify a ser ver fr om another subnet.

39 Chapter 4 Managing St or age RAID Arra y s T eraStations support many types of RAID. The type of RAID ar ray s available for use depends on ho w many drives ar e installed in your T eraSta tion.
40 RAID 5 * RAID 5 arrays are a vailable for T eraStations with 3 or more hard drives . RAID 5 combines 3 or more drives into a single array . The usable space is equal to the sum of the capacity of the hard drives minus the capacity of one drive. F or example, if 4 drives ar e combined into a RAID 5 array , the usable space is the sum of 3 drives.
41 Using JBOD With JBOD , each hard drive in the T eraStation is addressed separa tely . T o put drives fr om an array into JBOD , follow the steps below . 1 In Settings, click Drives . 2 Click to the right of "RAID" . 3 Click the array to delete .
42 3 Click the array to delete . Note: If the "RAID Mode" field is blank , the array is alr eady in JBOD . Proc eed to step 7. 4 Click Delete RAID Array . 5 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open. Enter the c onfirmation number , then click OK .

C onfiguring a Hot Spare If you have a hot spar e configured and an array fails , the T eraStation immediately switches over t o the hot spare.
44 (3) Click Rediscover Disk . (4) Navigate to Driv es - RAID . (5) Choose the RAID array to repair . (6) Click the drive that was previously c onfigured as a hot spare , then click "Recover RAID Array" .

Changing the RAID Mode While A dding a Drive Select the drive you want to add to the RAID array and choose the mode f or the array .
47 1 In Settings, click Drives . 2 Move the RAID scanning switch to the position to enable RAID scanning. 3 Click to the right of "RAID Scanning" . 4 Click Edit . 5 Select when to run the scan and click OK . Notes: • Check "Immediately" to run RAID maintenance immediat ely .
48 • DUB and DIU series dr ives Supported file systems for external drives are below: • F A T32 • EX T3 • XFS • NTFS • HFS+ (read- only) Connect only one device to each USB port of the T eraStation. Some external drives with automatic power -on don' t turn on automatically when connected to the T eraStation.
49 3 Select the drive to dismount and click Dismount Disk . 4 When the follo wing message is displayed, it is saf e to unplug the drive . Note: T o remount the drive, unplug it and then plug it back in. Checking Drives A disk check tests the data on a drive in the T eraStation or connected via USB for integrity .
50 3 Select the drive to test, then click Check Disk . 4 Click Check . Y ou have the option of deleting information files fr om Mac OS during the check if desired.
51 3 Select a drive to check and click S.M.A.R. T . 4 The S.M.A.R.T . information for the drive will be displa yed. Diff erent inf ormation may be displayed depending on the brand of drives in your T eraStation. Critical attributes are display ed in bold.
52 2 Select Drives to format an internal drive or USB Driv es to format an external drive. 3 Select the drive to format, then click F ormat Disk . 4 Select a format type, then click F ormat .
53 5 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open. Enter the c onfirmation number , then click OK . 6 Depending on the size of your drive , the format may take sev eral minutes or several hours t o complete. "F ormatting" will be displayed on the L CD display until the format is complete .
54 Encr ypting Driv es Internal drives (and arrays) can be encrypted with 128-bit AES during formatting. Encrypted drives and arrays ar e then readable only from that specific T eraStation. T o unencr ypt a drive or array , uncheck "Encryption" and format it again.
55 • If the T eraStation fails to boot after drive 1 or 2 is replac ed, remo ve any media cartridges, then replace them after the T eraStation has booted . Erase Da ta on the T er aStation C ompletely Under some circumstances , data from formatt ed drives can be recov ered.
56 4 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open. Enter the c onfirmation number , then click OK . 5 All data on the T eraStation will be permanently erased. Disk Quotas Y ou can set a disk quota to limit drive space f or each user or group . Y ou can also set an aler t space.
57 2 Click to the right of "Users" . 3 Select the user whose space will be limited. 4 Enable quotas, choose the maximum space the user will be allow ed to use, and click OK . Note: If you change the primary group, r estar t the T eraSta tion to apply the quota settings.
58 5 Click Close . 6 Click to the right of "Users" . 7 Select the user who will inherit the group quota settings. 8 Change the user's primar y group t o the group with the quota, then click OK . 9 Click OK . Size Limits If L VM is enabled , volumes can be created with maximum siz e limits.

61 Installing a Connection T ool W indows XP , W indow s Server 2003 Before using an y iSCSI equipment, download and install the iSCSI connection software "Microsoft iSCSI Soft ware Initiator" from the Microsoft website .
62 3 Select the drive or array where the volume will be cr eated and click Enable L VM on V olume . 4 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open.
63 9 Click Create V olume . 10 Enter a volume name, v olume description, volume, and siz e (if you enabled L VM), then click OK . The volume size tha t you specify here can be changed lat er . T o change the volume size, ref er to the "Expanding V olume Sizes" section below .
64 2 Enter the IP address of the T eraStation into the "T arget" field and click Quick Connect . 3 Confirm if the connection is established and click Done . Connecting a volume is finished. If using the connected volume for the first time, the v olume should be formatted t o be used as a local drive.
65 3 Right-click the disk volume that shows the status "Unallocated" and click New Simple V olume from the displayed menu . Follo w the screen to finish f ormatting.

69 5 Select the T eraStation name from the drop-down menu of "T arget" and click Unr egister iSCSI Device . 6 Click OK . Disconnecting a volume is finished. Using with Multiple C omputers If the T eraStation is divided into multiple v olumes (or drives), it can be used with multiple computers.
70 Configuring A cc ess Restrictions for the Entire T eraSta tion 1 In Settings, click Drives . 2 Click to the right of "iSCSI" . 3 Click the Security tab. 4 Click Edit under " Access C ontrol ( T arget Discovery)" . 5 Enable access restrictions, ent er the username and password, and click OK .
71 3 In the "Discovery" tab, click Discov er Portal . 4 Enter the T eraSta tion's IP address in the "IP address or DNS name" field . 5 Click Adv anced . 6 Check "Enable CHAP log on" and enter the configur ed username to the "Name" field and password in to the "T arget secr et" field.
72 3 The screen to en ter the username and password will be display ed. Enter the c onfigured username and password fr om step 5 of the "Configuring A ccess Restrictions for the Entire T eraStation" section above and click OK . If mutual authentication is enabled, check "Mutual Authen tication" , then click OK .
73 6 Select a volume to connect from the drop-down menu of " V olume" and click Connect . 7 Click OK . Accessing the v olume on the access-restricted T eraStation is finished.
74 4 Enable access restrictions, ent er a client IQN (optional), username, and passwor d, and click OK . Note: T o enable mutual authentication, check "Enable Mutual Authentication" in the screen abo ve and enter the mutual authentication passwor d.
75 If the mutual authentication is enabled, check "P er form mutual authentica tion" . 7 Click OK twice. 8 In the " T argets" tab , select the volume from "Discov ered targets" and click Connect .
76 3 Select a volume to connect from the drop-down menu of " V olume" and click Connect . 4 The screen to en ter the username and password will be display ed. Enter the c onfigured username and password fr om step 4 of the "Configuring A ccess Restrictions for Individual V olumes" sec tion above and click OK .
77 5 If "Mutual Authentication" is checked , the following scr een will be displayed. En ter the mutual authentication password and click OK . 6 When authentication is successful , click OK . Accessing the ac cess-restricted volume is finished.
78 4 Enter the desired v olume size to add and click OK . 5 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open. Enter the c onfirmation number , then click OK . 6 Click OK , then Close . Expanding the volume size is finished . Deleting V olumes T o delete an existing volume , follow the pr ocedure below .
79 3 Select the volume to delete and click Delete V olume . 4 Confirm that the volume is c orrectly selec ted on the scr een and click OK . 5 The "Confirm Opera tion" screen will open. Enter the c onfirmation number , then click OK . 6 Click OK .
80 Hard Driv e Replacemen t Hard drives in the T eraStation show a blue status LED during normal operation. If a drive fails, its error LED will glow red. ± ² 1 Error LED Glows red if a driv e has failed. 2 Status LEDs The failed drive's status LED will be glowing a st eady red.
81 • Do not change the order of the hard drives in the T eraStation. F or example, pulling out drive 1 and r eplacing it with drive 2 may cause data to be c orrupted or lost. • If the L CD display does not change after a new drive is installed, click Redisc over Disk in Settings.
82 3 Pull out the drive cartridge and remove it fr om the T eraStation. 4 Inser t the new drive into the empty slot. Slide the drive in with the locking mechanism open.
83 5 Swing the lock back down until it clicks int o place. 6 Close the front co ver . 7 When the replacement har d drive is recog nized, the status LED will flash r ed and the I31 message will be displayed on the L CD panel. 8 Hold down the function button on the front of the T eraStation for 3 seconds until it beeps.
84 F or JBOD: The drive will be f ormatted as an individual drive. Cr eate a shared f older on the drive befor e use. Drive Replac ement (using a redundant RAID mode such as RAID 1, 5, or 6 with auto- shutdown enabled) This section describes the process of replacing a drive while the T eraStation is off .
85 6 Unlock the failed drive by pushing the unlock button and swing ing the lock mechanism out. 7 Pull out the hard driv e car tridge and remo ve it from the T eraStation. 8 Inser t the new hard drive (sold separa tely) into the empty slot. Slide the drive in with the locking mechanism open.
86 Chapter 5 Backup Back Up from the T eraSta tion Y ou can back up T eraStation folders to: • A different folder on the T eraStation • Another LinkStation on the network • Another T eraStation on the network Y ou can also configure backup jobs from Easy A dmin.
87 2 Click to the right of "Backup" . 3 Click List of LinkStations and T eraStations ..
88 4 Click Add under "O ff-subnet Devices" , enter the IP address of the target LinkStation or T eraStation, and click Close . If your setup meets the requirements belo w , you don't have to c onfigure these settings: • The source and target T eraStations are on the same network.

90 4 Select backup settings such as date and time to run. The follo wing types of backup jobs may be selected: T ype F iles included Normal backup All files in the source will be backed up to the destina tion.

95 8 Select the shared folder that will be the replication tar get, then click OK . Note: Replication targets may include "(LAN1)" or "(LAN2)" , indicating which LAN port will be used for the replication task. 9 Click OK . 10 Click Ye s .
96 • If a network problem causes a replication error , unsynced data may be shown as "0" ev en though replication is incomplete. Click Resync t o recov er from the replication err or . All files from the source folder will be copied to the target f older .
97 Connecting to the networ k at LAN por t 1 and setting failov er at LAN por t 1 With the first setup , if the main T eraStation fails, the backup T eraStation will replace it completely , using the same name and IP address. The backup T eraStation is updated o ver normal network traffic.
98 Usage Restrictions F unction Restric tions F ailov er is not available when any of the f ollowing functions are enabled: Replication, sleep mode, encrypted disk volume, MySQL server , media cartrid.
99 4 Select a T eraStation to be the target backup device . Note: The target T eraStation's hostname, IP addr ess, and LAN port number will be shown. The LAN port selec ted here will be used to check the main T eraStation for continued operation.
100 Ser vice IP A ddress The "service IP address" will be the new address of the backup T eraStation when it takes over operation fr om the main T eraStation. If no ser vice IP address is set, or a fix ed IP address is set, an attempt is made to inherit the IP address from the main T eraStation.
101 2 Move the AFP switch to the position to enable AFP . 3 Click to the right of "F older Setup" . 4 Choose a shared folder as y our backup destination for Time Machine. 5 Click Edit . 6 Under "LAN Pr otocol Support" , check " AFP (M ac)" and click OK .

109 Notes: • The follo wing levels of security are available: " Allow Anonymous" - An yone can access (view) shar ed folders. " Allow All Groups and Users" - All gr oups and users register ed on the LinkStation or T eraSta tion can use W ebAccess .
