USER’S GUIDE 1-2 ABOUT THIS PRINTER Features This print er has the foll owing standard features . 2400 x 600 DPI Class Resolution This printer prints at a default resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi). By utilizing the 300-dpi mode, the printer can also print lower resolution data, if necessary.

CHAPTER 2 SETTING UP THE PRINTER 2–5 Install the OPC Belt Cartridge ! Caution • Do not touch the green surface of the OPC Belt Cartridge. T his can degrade p rint quality . • Do not expose the OPC Belt to light (more than 800 lux) for more than appro x imately 2 minutes.

CHAPTER 2 SETTING UP THE PRINTER 2–7 Install the Toner Cartridges This printer uses 4 separate color (Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) toner cartridges. One of each is supplied. A new cartridge contains enough toner to print up to 14,000 (Black): 8,500 (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) A4 or letter-size single-sided pages at about 5% coverage.
USER’S GUIDE 2–8 3. After rocking each of the cartridges 3 to 4 times from side to side, remove the or ange Protective Cov e r f rom the Toner Cartridges. Fig. 2-12 Rocking Cartridges and Removing the Protective Cover 4. Install the 4 toner cartridges by positioning them in the correct guides.
CHAPTER 2 SETTING UP THE PRINTER 2–9 ! Caution • Insert the toner cartridge s gently into the printer. Do not try to lock them into the printer by pushing them all the way into the cartridge guide. The cartridges will be correctly positioned when the front cover is closed.

CHAPTER 2 SETTING UP THE PRINTER 2–17 Connecting the Printer to Your Computer This printer has a bi-directional parallel interface and an RS-232C serial interface.

Attach the other end of the interface cable to the interface con n ector on your computer. Be sure to t i ghten the connection on the computer as well.
CHAPTER 2 SETTING UP THE PRINTER 2–19 Turning the Printer On Installing the P ower Cord and Turning the Printer On 1. Make sure that the Pow er button is turned OFF. The power button is on the fro nt left side of the printer. 2 . Attach the p o wer co rd to the printer and plug it into an approp r iate AC outlet.
USER’S GUIDE 2–20 ! Caution Always wait at lea st 5 seco nds after turning off the power before turning it on again. Do not turn the power off while the printer is printing as this may cause a paper jam and adversely affect the printer. The printer performs self-diagnosis at start-up to check its hardware and software.

USER’S GUIDE 3–12 Using Envelopes You will need to attach the Envelope Adapter when you want to print envelopes. 1. Pull out the Media Cassette and remove the Media Cassette Cover. 2. Attach the Envelope Adapter to the Media Cassette. Secure the hooks of the Envelope adapter into the Media Cassette.

Pr ess the Mode button and then press the Set Butt on. When you enter the interface mode, the display first shows the current interface with the asterisk.

It can hold a maximum of 500 sheets of paper (75 g/m 2 or 20 lbs). To purchase the optional lower tray unit, please consult the dealer where you purchased the printer.
