3 3 - 1 3 Control panel This secti on refers to t he four Light Emit ting Diodes (LEDs) ( Toner , Dr um , Paper , Ready ) a nd a control panel button ( Go ) on the c ontrol pan el. The LED indications shown in the ta ble below are used in the illus trations in thi s chapter.
Control pan el 3 - 2 3 LED Printer status Sleep mode The po wer switch is off or the printer is in Sle ep mode. P ressing the Go bu tton wakes up the p rinter from S leep mode to Ready m ode. Ready to prin t The pri nter is re ady to prin t. Warming up The pri nter is warmi ng up.

Control pan el 3 - 5 3 Service call indications If there is an err or that cannot be cleared by the user , the printer will show that a service call is needed by lighting up all the LEDs as shown below. If you see the service call indication above, turn of f the power switch, wait a few seconds , and then turn it back on and try to print again.

Error recovery If there is an err or, the print er will recov er automatically from some errors.

Using control panel button 1 Turn off the printer . 2 Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in. 3 Hold down t he Go button as you turn on the power switch.

Control pan el 3 - 10 3 Print Fonts (For HL-2070N) You can print a list o f the internal font s using the control panel butt on or printer dr iver. Using the control panel button 1 Turn off the printer . 2 Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.
Control pan el 3 - 11 3 Network factory default setting (For HL-2070N) If you wish to reset t he print server back to its default f actory settings (resetting all information such as the password and IP addre ss information), please foll ow these steps: 1 Turn off the printer .
4 4 - 1 4 Options This print er has the foll owing optional pri nt servers. Click the symbol L in the table t o see the information for each item. Wireless print serve r (NC-2200w) An optional net work print server (NC-2200 w) allows you to print in a wireless envi ronment through the USB interf ace.
Opti ons 4 - 2 4 Print server (NC-2 100p) (For HL-2040) An optional networ k print server (NC-2100p) allows you to connect to your network thr ough the parallel interf ace.

Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 2 5 Toner cartridge The life of the original toner cartr idge that came wit h the printer may be e ither a starter *1 or standar d *2 toner cartridge, and depends on th e model and co untry you bought t he printer i n.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 3 5 Toner Life End message If the LED shows the message below, the printer has run out of to ner or the toner is not evenly di stributed inside the cartridge. Replacing the toner cartridge Note • To ensure high quali ty printing, make sure you us e quality Brot her toner cartr idges.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 4 5 3 Push down the blue lock lever and take the t oner cartridge o ut of the dr um unit. Note • Be sure to seal u p the toner cart ridge tightly in a bag so that toner powder does not spil l out of t he cartridge.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 5 5 5 Pull off the protec tive cover. CAUTION • Wait to unpack the toner cartridge unt il immediately befor e you put it in the print er. If ton er cartridges are lef t unpacked for a long time the tone r life will be shortened.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 6 5 6 Put the new toner cartridge fi rmly into the drum unit unt il you hear it lock into pl ace. If you put it in properl y, the lock le ver will lift automatica lly. 7 Clean the primary cor ona wire inside the drum uni t by gently sl iding the blue tab from right to left and left to r ight several ti m es.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 7 5 Drum unit This print er can print up to 12,000 pages * wit h one drum unit. * At 5% print cover age (A4 or Lett er size). The actu al number of printed pages wi ll vary depe nding on the aver age type of print job and pa per.
Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 8 5 Replacing the drum unit Note We recommend that you clean the printer when you replace t he drum unit. See Cleaning on page 5-11. Follow t hese steps t o replace the drum unit. 1 Make sure that the printer is turned on and the Drum LED i s b li nk in g.

Note • Be sure to seal up the drum unit t i ghtl y in a bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the unit. • Discard the used drum unit acc ording to local regulation s, keeping it separat e from domestic waste.

When you replace the toner cartridge o r the drum uni t, make sur e you clea n the inside of the printer . Rout ine ma intena nce 5 - 12 5 3 Wipe the outside of the printe r with a soft cloth to remove dust. 4 Remove anything that i s stuck inside the paper tr ay. 5 Wipe the inside of th e paper tray with a soft cloth to rem ove dus t. 6 Put the paper tray fi rmly back in the prin ter.

Troub leshooti ng 6 - 2 6 Error mess ages in the Status Monitor The Status Monitor will report proble m s with the printer. Take the correc tive actions listed in the foll owing table f or the error mess age that the Stat us Monitor reports. The default set ting for the Stat us Monitor is off.

Troub leshooti ng 6 - 6 6 2 Pull the jammed paper up and out of the print er. 3 Open the front cover. 4 Pull out the drum unit and t oner cart ridge assembly slowly. The jammed paper will be pulled out with the drum unit and toner car tridge assembly.
