USER’S GU IDE 2–4 MULTI-PURPOSE SHEET FEEDERS The printer has two multi-purp o se sh eet feed er s that can feed plain p ap er, envelopes, transparenci es and organizer paper. To use the multi-pu rpose sheet feeders, fo llow these steps: 1. Make sure that you have sel ected the proper paper source, paper si ze and orientati on.

CHAPTER 2 PAPER H ANDLIN G 2–9 MANUAL FEED SLOT The front multi-p u rpose sheet feeder 1 also has a manual feed slo t. Yo u can manually load paper sheet by sheet from this slot. You do not need to remove pa p e r fro m the multi-pur p o se sheet feeder when u sing the manual feed slot.

CHAPTER 2 PAPER H ANDLIN G 2–11 OUTPUT TRAY AND PAPER SUPPORT WIRE The printer ejects paper with the printed surface face down into the output tray at the front of the p rin ter. When the output tray is closed, the ejected paper comes out sheet by sheet through the slit at the front.

CHAPTER 3 CON TROL PANEL 3–3 Alarm Lamp The Alarm lamp blinks to indicate a printer error status such as “Cover Open” and “Memory Full.” If any other error occurs, the printer indicates the error by blinking the Alarm lamp with another la mp or by printing an error report.
USER’S GU IDE 3–4 Other Control Features The printer has the foll owing useful features: Sleep Mode When the printer does not receive data for a certain period of time (time- out), it enters sleep mode. Sleep mode acts as though t h e printer was turned off.

CHAPTER 4 OPTIONS 4–1 CHAPTER 4 OPTIONS SERIAL INTERFACE BOARD RS100M To connect the printer to a DOS computer with a serial interface or to an Apple Macintosh computer, you need to install the optional serial interface board.

Select the RS-422A(Apple) or R S-232C(IBM) interface by changing the serial interface slide switch to the right for IB M(RS-232C) or to the left si de for Apple(RS-422A).
CHAPTER 4 OPTIONS 4–3 If necessary, set the serial interface parameters as follows: 1. Make sure that th e p rinter is in the off-lin e state. 2. Set the serial interface parameters by moving up (on) or down (off) the selectors of the dual in-line package (DIP) switch.

CHAPTER 4 OPTIONS 4–5 You can connect a parallel and a serial interface cable at the same time. The auto interface selection function allows you to share the printer with two computers. To do this, connect the parallel interface cable and then connect the serial interface cable as follows: 1.
USER’S GU IDE 4–6 ADDITIONAL MEMORY This printer has 4.0 MByte of standard memory and has one slot for optional additi onal memory. The memory can be expanded up to 36 MBytes by installing a co mmercially available sin g le in-line memory module (SIMM).

Unpack the SIMM and hold it on i ts edge. ✒ Note Do not touch the memory chips and the surface of the main controller board.
CHAPTE R 5 MAI NT ENANCE 5–1 CHAPTER 5 MAINTENANCE REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGE The printer can print approxim ately 2,400 pag es w ith one tone r cartridge. When the tone r cartr idge is running lo w , the Alarm and Data ( Toner ) lamps blink once every 5 seconds to in dicate toner low .

USER’S GU IDE 5–6 REPLACING THE DRUM UNIT The printer uses a drum uni t to create the print images on paper. If the Drum lamp is on, it ind icates the drum un it is nearly at the end o f its life. We recommend you prepare a new drum unit to replace the current one.

USER’S GU IDE 5–10 ADJUSTING THE PRINT DENSITY The print den sity dial is located inside th e printer. You can u se it to adjust the amount of toner applied t o the paper.

CHAPTER 6 TROUBLESHOOT ING 6–1 CHAPTER 6 TROUBLESHOOTING ALARM INDICATIONS AT A GLANCE Operator Calls If a recoverable error occurs, the printer indicates an ‘operator call’ by blinking the Alarm la mp and any of the following lamps . Find the error and take t he proper action to correct it.

If you use the printer wit h the supplied Windows driver, the status monitor will appear to indicate the error on your computer screen. The printer als o prints some error messages on paper.
