Assembly IMP ORT ANT : T wo replacement auger shear pins are included with this manual ( or stowed in the plastic handle panel). Refer to the Maintenance section for m ore informa- tion regarding shear pin repl acement. NOTE: All references in this manual to the lef t or right side of the snow thrower is from the operating position only.
Headlight Harness If not already done, wrap the wires of the headli ght wire harness around the lower right handle; then attach the wires to the engine as shown in Figure 3- 7 .
While obser v ing the distance bet ween the shave plate and the ground, adjust the sk ids shoes up or down to achieve the desired sha ve plate height. See Figure 3- 1 0. Make certain the e ntire bottom sur face of sk id shoes are against the ground to avoid unev en wear on the skid shoes; then tighten nuts and bolt s securely .
G a s & O i l F i l l - U p W ARNI NG ! Use ex treme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is ex trem ely f lammable and the vapor s are explosive. Never fuel the machine indoor s or while the engine is hot or running. E x tinguish cigarettes, cigars , pipes and other sources of ignition.
Snow throw er controls and features ar e describe d below and illustrated in Fig. 4 - 1 . NOTE: For detaile d information on all engine controls, refer to the separate T ecumseh Engine Op erator’s Manual.
Throttle Control The throttle control is located on the rear of the engine. It regulates the speed o f the engine and will shut of f the engi ne when moved into t he STOP position. Primer Bulb Pressing the primer bulb forces fuel direc tly into the engine’ s carburetor to aid in star ting a “Cold” engine.
T wo-W ay Chute C ontrol™ The t wo -way chute con trol is located on the lef t side of the dash panel and is used to control the distance of snow discharge from the chute. T o change the uppe r chute angle to c ontrol the distance that snow is thro wn, pivot the lever forw ard or back ward.
Starting The Engine Attach spark plu g wire to spark plug. Make cert ain the metal lo op on the end of the spark p lug wire (inside the rubber b oot) is fastened securely over the metal tip on the spark p lug. Make certain b oth the auger control and drive cont rol are in the disengaged (released) position.
Operating Tips NOTE : Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes. The engine will not develop f ull power until it reaches operating tempe rature. W ARNI NG : The temperature of the muf f l er and the surrounding areas may exc eed 1 50 ° F . A void these areas.
Slide the shave plat e out of the of f-set slot at the bot tom of the housing, and from b et ween the skid shoes and side pane ls of the housing. With the mounting holes toward the back, sli de the new shav e plate into position and secure with the fasteners removed previously.
Auger Sh af t At least once a season, one at a time, remov e the shear pins from the auger shaf t. Spr ay lubricant inside the hub of each auger spiral assembly an d around the spacers on the auger shaf t. Se e Figure 6-3. Grease f it tings can also be found at each end of the auge r shaf t.
Drive Con trol Refer to “ Auger and Dr ive Contr ol Ca bles ” of the A ssembly & Set- Up - Sec tion 3 for instruc tions to adjust the drive control.
Belt Replacement Belt Remo val Preparat ion Disconnec t the chute crank assembly at the discharge chute end by removing the hairpin clip and the flat washer . Refer to Figure 7 - 1 . Remove the plastic belt cover on the front of the engine by removing the three self-tap ping screws.
Fr om both sides of the fr ame assembly , use a 1 /2" wrench to remove t he three hex tap s crews securing the transmission frame to the auger housing assembly. Refer to Figure 7 - 1 . NOTE: Do not remove the lower hex f lange lock nut on each side.
T o adjust, disconnec t ferrul e from brake bracket assembly. Thread ferrule in (towards idler ) to increase tension on belt, or out to decrease belt tension. NOTE: Th e b rak e p uck mu st alw a ys be firml y s eat ed in the pul ley gr oov e when au ger c ont rol i s d isen gag ed.
Place the belleville washer (rounded side toward head) onto the hex screw remov ed earlier, and in ser t the screw into t he threaded hole of the h ex shaf t. Gradually tighten the hex screw to fully seat the bearings in each side of the fr ame and to secure the hex shaf t.
