CHAPTER 2: PRODUCT OVERVIEW 9 Security Use the OSD interface to protec t the switching system with a screen saver password. After a user-defined ti me, the screen saver mode engages and access is prohibited until the correct password is entere d to reactivate the swit ching system.

CHAPTER 3: INSTALLATION 11 3. Inst allation The appliance requires connectivity to a computer runni ng ServSelect IP VM Software. Use ServSelect IP VM Software to view and control target devi ces (one at a time) attached to the appliance. The analog port does not re quire the ServSelect IP VM Software for operation.

CHAPTER 3: INSTALLATION 13 3.3 Safety Precautions To avoid potential video and/or keyboard pro blems when using Black Box products: • If th e building has 3-phase AC power , ensu re that the computer and monitor are on the same phase. For best results, they should be on the same circuit.

Connect one end of a Cat5 patch cable (4-pai r , up to 10 meters) into a target device interface port and connect the o ther end into the RJ45 co nnector of a SAM.

SERVSELECT IP VM INSTALLER/USER GUIDE 20 4. Basic operations 4.1 Controlling the switch ing system from the analog port The appliance includes ports on the rear pane l that you can use to connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the appl iance for direct analog access.

CHAPTER 4: BASIC OPERATIONS 23 4.5 Connecting local virtual media You can connect virtua l media directly to the appl iance using the USB port on the appliance. Note that all USB ports ar e assigned to a single virtua l media session and cannot be independently mapped.

The mouse cursor will change into an hourglass during the update. No mouse or keyboard input will be accepted until the list update is complete.

APPENDICES 45 Appendix A: Flash upgrades You can use the appliance flash upgrade feature to update the applia nce with the latest firmware available. This update can be performed using the Se rvSelect IP VM Software or using a Trivial File Transfer Pr otocol (TFTP) target device.

Do not skin of f more than one inch of jacket while terminating. • If bending the cable is necessa ry , make it gradual with no bend sharper than a one inch radius.
