Chapter 2 Tutorial NWD310N User’s Guide 32 2.2 Connecting to an AP Without Using WPS There are three ways to connect the wireless client (the NWD310N) to a network without using WPS. • Configure nothing and leave the wireless client to automatically scan for and connect to any available network that has no wireless security configured.

NWD310N User’s Guide 37 C HAPTER 3 Wireless LANs This chapter provides backgro u nd inform ation on wireless Local Area Networks. 3.1 Wireless LAN Overview The following figure pro vides an exampl e of a wireless network with an AP . See Figure 3 on page 24 for an Ad Hoc network example.
Chapter 3 Wireless LANs NWD310N User’s Guide 38 Like radio stations or television channels, e ach wireless network uses a spec ific channel, or frequency , to send and receive information. • Every device in the same wireless network must use security compatible with the AP or peer computer .
Chapter 3 Wirel ess LANs NWD310N User’s Guide 39 Y our NWD310N allows you to configure up to fo ur 64-bit, 128-bit or 152-bit WEP keys. Only one key is used as the default key at any one time. 3.2.1.1.2 Authentication T ype The IEEE 802.1 1b/g standard describes a simple authentication method between the wireless stations an d AP .

This may either be static (it cannot be chang ed) or dynamic (in some devices yo u can generate a new PIN by clicking on a button in th e configuration interface).

Y ou know that Client 1 supports registrar mode, but it is better to use AP1 for the WPS handshake w ith the new client since you must connect to the access point anyway in order to use the network.
