ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 1 1 Overview Y our ES-315-F is an intelligen t laye r-2 Ethernet switch with four Fast Ethernet RJ-45 p ort s and one Fast Ethernet Small Form-factor Pluggable slo t. Use the ES-315-F to conne ct up to four Ethernet devices to your network.
2 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 2 Make Hardware Connections 2.1 Connect the W A N T o make the ES-315-F’s fiber-optic connection you n eed to: 1 Open the ES-315-F. 2 Install an SFP transceiver . 3 Attach the wire mounts. 4 Insert a fiber-optic cable through a bushing and wrap it around the wire mounts.
ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 3 2 Lift the cover . 2.1.2 Install A T ransceiver The ES-315-F supports MSA (Multi-Source Ag reement) compliant SFP transceivers. Inside the ES-315-F, there is a slot for an SFP transcei ver with an LC-typ e connector . Please observe the following warn ings when working with transceivers.
4 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide • SFP transceivers are equipped with a Class 1 laser, which emits invisible radiation when the device or system is pow- ered up. T o avoid possible eye injury , do no t look into an operating fiber-op tic transceiver ’s connectors.
ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 5 4 Insert the SFP transceiver into the slot until it snap s into place. " Y our SFP transceiver has a mechanism that prevents incorre ct insertion. Do NOT force or twist the SF P transceiver in to a slot. 5 Lock the transceiver into place (if your transceiver has a locking mechanism).

ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 9 2 Replace the screws. 2.2 Make LAN and Power Connections 1L A N : Usi ng an Ethernet cable, co nnect your comp uter to one of the LA N ports ( 1 , 2 , 3 or 4 ) for initial configuration.
10 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 2P O W E R : t ake the followi ng steps to connect the included power adaptor . • Choose a hole in the ES-315-F to use for the power cable. If you did not already cover the hole with a bushing when you inserted the fibe r-optic cable, do so now .

12 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide Y ou must set your computer to use a static IP address in the 192.168.1.2 - 192 .168.1.254 ra nge with a subn et mask of 255.255.255.0. This ensures that you r computer can communicate with your ES-315-F. The following instructions are for the Windo ws 2000, Windows NT and Window s XP operating systems.

ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 17 1 Click Management in the na vigation panel on the left of the screen. In the menu that displays, click Access Control . Then, click Logins . 2 The following screen displays. 3 Enter the login information you want to use, as follows.
18 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide • Enter the default password ( 1234 ) in the Old Password field. • Choose a new password up to 31 characters in l ength (let- ters, numerals, spaces, dashes (-) and underscores (_) are allowed) and enter it in the New Pass word field.

20 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide " If you chan ge the ES-3 15-F’s IP address, you will need to use the new on e in order to access the web configurator once you click OK . • If you have a DHCP server on your network that can assign a dynamic IP address to your ES-315-F, go to section 5.
ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 21 " If you do this, ensure that you can access the DHCP server ’s list of dev ices to which it has given IP addresses. If you do not know the IP address assigned to the ES- 315-F, you cannot access its web configurator .
22 ES-315-F Quick Start Guide V If you cannot access the ES-315-F, have problems accessing th e Internet through the ES-315-F, or forget the p assword, you may need to reset the ES-315-F to its factory defaults . If you do this, all configured information is lost.
ES-315-F Quick Start Guide 23 3 Do not insert the screws all the way into the wall. Leave a small gap of about 0.5 cm between the heads of th e screws and the wall. 4 Make sure the screws are sn ugly fastened to the wall. They need to hold the weight of the ES-31 5-F with the connection cables.
