1 Getting Started Package Contents The packag e contains the Zoom Wireless-N 4-port Router , an RJ-45 Ether net cable, a 5V 1.0A powe r cube, a Quick Start f lyer , and a CD that co ntains additional documentation and wa r ranty infor mation.
2 Using the Router Mode This chapter explains how to setup your Wi reless-N 4-port Router in Router Mode. Most users will select this m ode. In Router Mode the Wireless-N 4-port Router typically connects to a br oadband modem such as a Cable or ADSL modem and becomes the center of a wired and/or wireless network.
Ethernet cable to t he computer’s Ethernet port an d the other end to any of the Wire less-N 4-port Router’s Ethernet (LAN) ports. 5 Plug the supplied power cube into the Wirele ss-N 4-por t Router and then into a power o utlet. Important: Use only the power cube shipped with the Wireless-N 4 -port Router.
Note: Later , if you change the System P assword, y ou w ill use the new passw ord to log in. 4 Click Wizar d on the T oolbar to launch the Setup Wizard , which will guide you through the configuration process. 5 The Setup Wizard page opens . 6 Each of the five Steps guides y ou in configuring a speci fic setting or g roup of settings .
Note : If you forget the ne w passw ord, you w on't have access to the Configuration Manag er and will need to restore the device to its factor y settings (see R es etting the R outer to the Factory Configuration ), thus losing any changes you made to yo ur R outer's configura tion.
Manually Selecting your WAN Type If you selected Setup y our WAN Connection Manuall y or the manual setup option page below appears after you r un Auto Detect, select your connection fr om the following options: • Dynamic IP Address: Select this if you are using a cable modem or if your ADSL modem does not use PPP oE.
Configuring the Dynamic IP Address The pag e shown below only appears if you select the Dynamic IP Address button on the Select WAN Type menu or A uto Detect found a connect ion using Dynamic IP . Otherwise skip this section. • Host Name (optional) This is the name t hat identifies your Wire less-N 4-por t R outer.
Configuring PPPoE The pag e shown below only appears if you select the PPPoE button on th e Select WAN Type menu or A uto Detect found a connection that uses PPPoE. Otherwise skip this section. • PPPoE User name This is the PPP oE user name supplied b y your ser vice provider .
Configuring the Static IP Address The pag e shown below will only appear in the unlikely event that y ou select the Static IP Address button o n the Select WAN Type menu. Otherwise skip this section. • Static IP Address This is the IP address that is given to y ou by your ser vice pro vider when you sign up for a Static IP address .
Configuring PPTP The pag e shown below only appears if you select the PPTP button on the Select WAN Type menu. Otherwise skip this section. • IP Mode This is the mode used to g enerate the IP address. Select an option from the dropdown menu, based on y our ser vice provider's requirements .
Configuring L2TP The pag e shown below only appears if you select the L2TP button on the Select WAN Typ e menu. Otherwise skip this section. • IP Mode This is the mode used to g enerate the IP address. Select an option from the dropdown menu, based on y our ser vice provider's requirements .
Step 3. Wireless Settings The Wireless Settin gs page lets you chan ge the wireless settings for your Wire less-N 4-port Router. After running the Setup Wi zard you will need to make sure that wireless de vices connecting to the Wireless-N 4-port Router (co mputers, phones, tablets, game stations , etc.
Wireless Security Settings If you accepted the default to Enable the Wireless Module (on the Wireless Settings page at Step 3), the following pag e opens when you click Next . From the drop-down men u, you can choose either none, WEP , or WP A2/WP A. By default, the Router does not ha ve security en abled.
o WEP: You must select this option in the unlikely event that you have devices on your network th at only support WEP. Otherwise we recommend WPA2/WPA. (Devices that only support WEP include older handheld game consoles, ol der MAC notebooks, and very old Windows notebooks.
Step 4. Summar y The Summar y pag e displa ys the updated configuratio n settings for your R outer and lets you accept, chang e, and test the configured values .
Step 5. Finish The Finish page displays the sav ed configur ation settings for your R outer . Click Finish to exit the Setup Wizard and return to the Main Men u. Impor tant! If you see the message “Connection to Inter net F ailed!” tr y the following: • Check that the Ethernet ca bles are all securely connected.
Resetting the Router to the Factory Configuratio n In the unlikely event that y o u need to reset the R o uter to the factory default c onfiguration, insert the blunt end of a paper cli p into the RESET ho le on the bac k panel of the Router . Hold the clip in place for five (5) seconds .
3 Ethernet Client Mode This chapter explains how to setup your Wireless-N 4-port Router as an Ethernet Client. Ethernet Client Mode allows a game st ation, computer , HDTV , or ot her device with an Ethernet port to use the Router to connect to a wireless network.
Important: Use only the power cube shipped with the Wireless-N 4 -port Router. Other power cubes may damage the device. 6 Turn on the computer. The conn ected Ethern et (LAN) port light should start bli nking. If the connected Ethernet (LAN) ligh t doesn’t blink, please see Appendix A : Troubleshooting Tips .
4 Click Wizar d on the T oolbar to launch the Setup Wizard , which will guide you through the configuration process. 5 The Setup Wizard page opens. 6 Each of the Steps guides y ou in configuring a speci fic setti ng or gro up of settings . When you click Next or Back , you mov e from one step to another .
Step 1. Setup Login Password T o view or chang e configuration settings , you must enter a passw ord. Y our Router’ s default password admin was set by the factory and you used it to access the Configuration Manager initially .
Step 3. Ethernet Client Mode page 1 Select the Ena bled button to enable Ether net Client Mode. 2 Select the radio butto n corresponding t o the name of the wireless network (the SSID) you want to joi n. 3 If the wireless network you selected has security enabled, enter the Security Key used by your wireless netw ork.
Step 4. Summary Click Confir m . Next click Finish to g o to the Status pag e . C h a p t e r 3 : C o n n e c t i n g a n E t h e r n e t C l i e n t 2 7.
Y ou should no w see the Ether net Client Mode status . If it displays Connected your setup is complete. Congratulations! (Y ou ma y need to click the Ref res h button to update the pag e if it does not say Connected .
Step 5. Completing the Installation If you want to use the same PC (the one that you used to configure the R outer) to connect to the Inter net, please remov e the Ether net cable from the Ether net port on the bac k of the Wireless-N 4-por t Ro uter and move it to the WAN port.
4 Setting up the Wireless-N 4-port Router as a Repeater This chapter explains how to set up the Wireless-N 4-port Router as a Repeater using WDS (Wireless Distribution System) to boost and extend the range of your wireless network. WDS is especially useful in large homes or workplaces, including ones with multiple floors.

Setting Up the Router in Hybrid mode or WDS Only mode T o launch the Configuration Manag er , please follow these steps: 1 In the computer's W eb browser address bar, type http://192.168.2.1 and then clic k Enter . 2 When the USER'S MAIN MENU opens , it displays a Status page that lists the cur rent v alues for a variety of settings .
Note: Hybrid mode allows wired and wireless access to the Wireless-N 4-por t R outer; WDS Only does not allow wireless access to the Wireless-N 4-port R outer .
5 Setting up a Network Once the Wireless-N 4-port Router is set up in either Router Mode or Repeater Mode, you may now go ahead and set up the rest of your network. (If you are using the Wireless-N 4-port Router in Ethernet Client mode, skip this chapter .
2 Set up your netw ork a nd/or device . R efer to the docu mentation provided with your parti cular netw ork devic e for instr uctions on how to do this . 3 Once your network and/or device is set up , reboot any computer that is part of the net w ork .
6 Connecting Wireless Devices to the Wireless-N 4-port Router This chapter provides tips for connecting wireless devices (com puters, phones, tablets, game stations, etc.
Connecting a W indows 7 Computer with Built -in W ireless Capabilities 1 From the taskbar , click on the wireless symbol. 2 In the wireless network options box, highlight the Wireless Network name (SSID) you gave your wireless netw ork in Step 3 of th e Setup Wizard.
Connecting a Windows Vista Co mputer with Built -in Wireless Capabilities 1 From the Star t menu select Connect to . 2 In the Connect to a network dialog box, highlight the Wireless Network name (SSID) you gave your wireless netw ork in Ste p 3 of the Setup Wizard.
Connecting a Windows XP Comp uter with Built-in Wireless Capabilities 1 On your Windo ws desktop , click the Wireless Network Icon in the System T ray . 2 Windows will automatically scan for av ailable wi rel ess netw orks in your area. Any compati ble networks within range will appear in the Av ailable netw orks list.
There are several site scan issues you should be aware of: ¾ More than one wireless network may appear in th e list. These are other wireless networks that are within range of your net work. Your neighbors, for instance, may be within r ange of your network.
You will also be able to click a link to open the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box. If this happens, click the link, clear the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box, and then click OK . You can then use the softwar e provided with your wireless adapter witho ut interruption from Windows.
7 Using the Configuration Manager's Advanced Program Most users will not need to m anually set up their Router. In the unlikely event that you do, you can use the Configuration Manager's Advanced program to change the Router's default settings.
Launching the Configuration Manager's Advanced Program 1 T ur n on y our computer and Router , then launch yo ur W eb bro wser . 2 In the W eb br o wser address bar, type the R outer's default IP address, http://192.168.2.1 and then click Enter to launch the Configuration Manag er .
Configuring Basic Settings The Basic Settings page lis ts the four configuration menus on the left pane and pr o vides a description of the configuration menus at center . The Basic Setup Page Y ou can use the Basic Setup page to configure your W AN setup .
WAN T yp e Y ou can choose from the dropdown menu, based on the W AN c onnection type that your serv ice pro vider suppor ts . Host Name (o ptional) Enter the host name if provided by y our ISP . Enable MAC Cloning (optional) This function can chang e the W AN MA C Address of this device .
Virtual Computer s : Allows you to set up one-to-one ma pping of multiple global IP address and local IP address . Also known as "Static 1-1 NAT" where each LAN host can have a direct and fixed mapping to a global address . Global IP: Enter the global IP address assigned by y our ISP .
Lease Time The maximum amount of time, in min utes, that a network device will ha ve the temporar y IP address before a new on e is issued by the R outer’ s DHCP ser ver . IP Pool Starting Ad dress The first IP a ddress of a range that you specify using the Star t and End IP Address settings .
Fixed Mapping Clicking on the Fixed Mapping button brings you to the Fixed Mapping page. On this page you can set your DHCP server to always assign the same IP address to a computer connected to the Router. Otherwise the IP address assigned by th e DHCP server could change over time.
Wir ele ss Accept the default: Enable . Clic k the Disa ble ch eckbo x only if you do not want wireless clients to access your netw ork. SSID (Wireless Network Name) R efers to the S er vice S et Id entifier for your device. By default, the Wireless Network Name for the Wireless-N 4-por t Router is Zoom .
Security Select from the following options: o WPA2/WPA (Recommended): Most users should select the WPA2/WPA option. When you selec t this option, the Security Key field appears.
recommend using the Setup Wizard with t he options above to set up security for your Wireless-N 4-port Router. However, if you choose to use WPS, please refer to Appendix C: Setting up Y our Network Using WPS . Click Sav e to sav e changes. Click Undo if you need to reset the settings y ou changed on this pag e.
Configuring Forwarding Rules If you are using your Router for gaming, you may need to mak e changes to the Router’s firewall setting for the game to work. This is done by setting up a DMZ or virtual server, or using por t triggering so that the Rou ter’s firewall won’t block the other playe rs from your system during your gaming.
The Vir tual Ser ver P age Y ou can use the Virtual Ser ver page to configur e a virtual ser ver . Because your R outer's NA T firewall filters out unrecognized packets to protect your network, all computers behind this prod uct are in visible to the outsi de w orld.
Enable Click to enable the Virtual Ser ver . Schedule Rule# Y ou can enable y our vir tual ser ver for ce rtain periods of time by assigning it a Ru le # . Y ou m u st first set up the appropriate Scheduling Rule . See The Schedule R ule and Schedule R ule Setting Pages on page 71 f or more infor mation.
Tr i gg e r The outbound port number used by the application. Incoming Por ts When the outbound tri g ger packet is detect ed, the router opens the specified inbound ports and the inb ound pac kets sent to the specified por t n umbers are allowed to pass through the firewall.
IP Address of DMZ Host A DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) Host is a host wi thout the protection of t he router’ s firewall. It allo ws a computer or g aming sy stem to be exposed to unrestricted tw o-way communication for Internet games , video co nferencing, Inter net telephony and other special applications .
Configuring Security Settings The Security Settings page lists six configuration menus on the left pane and provides a description of the configuration menus at center . P acket Filters P a ge P acket Filtering allows you to control what packets are allo wed to pass through the R outer .
Filtering Policies Y ou can select one of the tw o filtering policies. Y ou can either allow or deny data that matches the filtering r ule to pass . Filtering Rules Y ou can specify eight r ules for each direction: inbound or outbound.
The Domain Filter s P a ge Y ou can use the Domain Filters page to enable or deny us er access to specified URLs . Domain filtering and URL Blocking pe rfor m similar functions . Th e major difference between Domain Filtering and URL Blocking is that Do main Fil tering filters an entire Domain (.

Connection Control Check Connection Control to specify which wired and wireless clients can co nnect to this device. If a client is denied a connect ion to this device, then that client is also denied Intern et access . Choose allow or deny t o indicate wh ich clien ts can conn ect to this device.

Configuring Advanced Settings The Adv ance d Settings page lists eight menus on the left pane a nd pro vides a description of the configuration menus at center . The System Time P a ge Y ou can use the System Time pag e to set and synchronize y our Router with the local time zone , the Time Ser ver and your PC .
T o Set the Date and Time using NTP pr otocol Click the Get Date and Time by NTP Pr otocol radio button. Select the Time Ser ver from the dropdo wn menu. If you are un sure whic h time ser ver to use select Auto . Select your Time Zone then clic k the Sync Now! button to set the time.
IP Address for Syslogging Host IP address of the destination where the Sys log will be sent. Click the Ena ble chec kbox to set the IP Address as the destination. E-mail aler t settings Check Ena ble if you w ant to send syslog via email. SMTP Ser ver IP and Port Input the SMTP ser ver IP and port; for exam ple , mail.
The Dynamic DNS Page Y ou can use the Dynamic DNS page to define the D ynam ic D omain N ame S er vice ( DDNS ) that will host your ser v er . For example , the DDNS could host your ser v er when you want to host a website on your netw ork but you do not have a static IP .
The QoS Rule P a ge Y ou can use the Q uality o f S er vice ( QoS) page to provide different priorities to differe nt users or data flows, or to guarantee a cer tain level of perfor mance.
Remo te: I P Define the remote IP address of packets . Remo te: Por ts Define the remote port of packets . QoS Priority Select a value from the dropdown men u to define the priority lev el for the local and remote settings. P ackets will be servi ced based upon the priority level set.
Enable SNMP Click the Local , Rem ote , or both checkbo xes to enab le the SNMP function. Check Local if you want the R outer to respond to requests from the LAN . Check Remo te if you want the R outer to r espond to requests from the W AN . Get Community Set Get Community to the GetRequest to which your device will respond.
Dynamic Routing The R outing I nfor mation P rotocol ( RIP ) will ex change infor mati on about destinations for computin g routes throughout the network. Please select RIPv2 only if you ha ve different subnet in y our network. Otherwise , please select RIPv1 if you need this protocol.
b On the Schedule Rule Setting page, s pecify a Rule name, a Policy that defines the Week Day and the Start Time an d End Time for each rule that yo u are creating. c Click Save for each rule that yo u create. d Click Back to return to the Schedule Rule page.
e When the Schedule Rule page opens, th e rule(s) that you created and saved appear in the Rule Name column. f Click Edit to make changes to a sch eduled rule.
Configuring T oolbox Settings The T oolbox Settings page lists six configuratio n menus on the left pane and provides a description of the configuration menus at center . System Infor mation Page Y ou can use the System Infor mation page to view information about yo ur Ro uter , and to view download, and delete system logs .
1 Click Brow se to op en the location where you saved the firmware update or ba cked up configuration file. The firm ware upgrade file wou ld have been do wnloaded from the Zoom web site or received via email and the backed up configur ation file would have been created from using the Back up Settings page.
The Reboot Dialo g Y ou can reboot the R outer b y clicking the Reboot item from the left pa ne of the T oolbo x menu. The following dialog opens. 1 Click OK to reboot the Router. The Miscellaneous Page Y ou can use this page to enter a MAC Address for W ake-on-LAN wake up or Ping a remote device on your n etw ork.
Appendix A: Troubleshooting Tips The following are some pr oblems y ou may experience and some possible solutions to remedy the situation. Problem After connecting the Wireless-N 4-port Router. to a computer, the connected Et hernet (LAN) port light does not blink .
Problem I am unable to connect to t he Internet (and/or used the Setup Wizard to set up t he Router and see the message “Connection to Internet failed”).
You should also verify that Zoom (or whatever you changed the SSID/network name to) is selected as the wireless network. If it is not, then you are connected to the wrong netwo rk. To verify the network, follow the instruct ions in Chapter 6, Connect ing Wireless Device s to the Wirele ss-N 4-port Rout er .
Appendix B: TCP/IP Network Settings If you are using a Mac computer , you must ensure that your computer’ s TCP/IP network settings are configured properly .
3 Under Configure, select Using DHCP Ser v er . Do not enter a nything in the DHCP Client ID field. 4 Close the TCP /I P Window . Y ou will be asked if you w ant to sav e the changes . Click Sa ve . Windo ws TCP/IP Settings How y ou configure your Windows computer’ s network settings differs, depending on your operating system.
Windows XP 1 Open the Inter net Pr otocol (TCP/IP) Proper ties dialog bo x. a From the desktop , click the Star t button, point to Control Panel , and then click Network and Inter net Connections . b Click Netw ork Connec tions . c Right-click the Local Area Connection icon, and select Proper ties .
2 Ensure the following is selected, depending on whether you are using dynamic (DHCP) or static IP addressing: ¾ If you are using DHCP (most users): Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected and that either Obtain a DNS server address automatically or Enable DNS is selected.
Appendix C: Setting up Your Network Using WPS If all the wireless devices you plan to connect to your network support W i-Fi P rotected S etup ( WPS ), you can use WPS to connect and secure your devices in one step. To use WPS follow the instructions below.
