16 En Connec tions ■ Speaker ty pes Front left and right speaker s (FL and FR) The front speakers are us ed for the main source sound plus effect sounds. Place these speakers at an equal dis tance from the ideal list ening positio n. The distance of each speaker from each side of the video monitor should be the same.
17 En Connections PREP ARA TION Be sure to connec t the left cha nnel (L), right channe l (R), “+” (red) and “–” (black) properly . If the connect ions are faulty , this unit cannot reproduce the input sources accurately . • A speaker cord is actually a pair of insu lated cables running side by side.

19 En Connections PREP ARA TION ■ Connecting the speaker cab le 1 Remove ap pro ximately 10 mm (0.4 in) of insulation from the end of each speaker cable and then twist the exposed wires of the cable together to pr e vent short circuits. 2 Loosen the knob, insert one bare wire into the hole and then tigh ten the knob.
20 En Connec tions This unit has three types of audio jack s, three types of video jacks and HDMI jacks. Y ou can choose the connection method depending on the component to be connected. ■ Aud i o j a cks A UDIO jacks For con ventional analog audio si gnals transmitted via left and right analog audio cables .
21 En Connections PREP ARA TION This unit has four HDMI input jacks and two HDMI output jacks for digital audio a nd video signal input/output. ■ HDMI jack and cable plug y • W e recommend that you use a commercially available HDMI cable shorter than 5 meters (16 feet) with the HDMI logo printed on it.

23 En Connections PREP ARA TION If you turn of f the video mon itor connected to the HDMI OUT jacks via a DVI connection, the connection may fail. In this case, the HDMI indicator fla shes irregularly . y • T o select the types of the audio signals output at the HDMI OUT jacks, configure the “ Audio Output” setting ( page 101 ).
24 En Connec tions ■ Connecting audio and video compo nents This unit has three types of audio jack s, three types of video jacks and HDMI jacks. Y ou can choose the connection method depending on the component to be connected. y HDMI can transmit both digital audio and video o ver a single HDMI cable.

26 En Connec tions • Be sure to make th e same type of video connections as those m ade for your TV if the video con version is disabl ed. For example, if you connected your TV to the VIDEO MONI TOR OUT jack of this unit, connect other components to the VIDEO jacks.
27 En Connections PREP ARA TION [4] SUR.BA CK/PRESEN CE PRE OUT jacks Surround back or presence channel output jacks. When you only connect one external amplif ier for the surround back channel, conne ct it to the SINGLE (SB) jack.
28 En Connec tions ■ Connecting to the netw ork T o connect this unit to y our network, plug one end of a netw ork cable (CA T -5 or highe r straight cable) into the NETWORK port of this un it, and plug the other end into one of the LAN ports on your router that supports the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configura tion Protocol) serv er function.
29 En Connections PREP ARA TION Use the VIDEO A UX jacks on th e front panel to connect a game console or a video camera to this unit. T o reproduce the source signals input at th ese jacks, select “V -A UX” as the input source. Both FM and AM indoor antennas are supplied with this unit.
30 En Connec tions (U .S.A. model) Connecting the wire of the AM loop antenna y The wire of the AM loop antenna does not ha ve any p olarity and you can connect eithe r end of the wire to AM or GND terminal.

43 En Playback BAS I C OPERA TION Use this feature (audio input jack select) to switch the input jack assigned to an input source when more than one jacks are assigned to an input source. 1 Rotate the L INPUT selector (or press one of the input sel ector buttons ( 3 )) to select the desired input source .

55 En Using audio features BAS I C OPERA TION Y ou can adjust the output level of each speak er while listening to a music source. This is also possible when playing sources input at the MUL TI CH INPUT jacks. This operation will override the le vel adjustments made in the automatic setup (page 35) and “Level” (page 94).
56 En Y ou can use two tuning modes to tune into the desired FM/AM station: Frequency t uning mode Y ou can search or specify the frequency of the desired FM/AM station automatica lly or manually (see “FM/AM tuning operations” on this page).
