GETTING STARTED 3 INTRODUCTION Please check t hat you recei ved all of the follo wing parts. 1 Press the part and slide the battery compartment cover off. 2 Insert four supplied batteries (AAA, R03, UM-4) according to th e polarity markings (+ / –) on the insi de of the battery compartment.
CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 4 1 ST ANDBY/ON T urns on this unit or sets it to the standby mode. When you turn on this unit, you will hear a click and ther e will be a 4 to 5-second delay before this unit can reproduce sound. In standby mo de, this unit consumes a small amount of po wer in order to receive infrared-signa ls from the remote control.

SPEAKER SE TU P 11 PREP ARA TION The speaker layout belo w shows the standard ITU-R * speaker setting. Y ou can use it to enjoy CINEMA DSP and multi-channel audio sources. * ITU-R is the radio communication sector of the ITU (International T elec ommunication Union).
12 SPEAKER SETUP Be sure to connect the left ch annel (L), right channel (R), “+” (red) and “–” (black) prope rly . If the connections are faulty , no sound will be heard from the speak ers, and if the polarity of the speaker connect ions is incorrect, the sound will be unnatural and lack bass.
13 SPEAKER SE TU P PREP ARA TION ■ FRONT terminals Connect one or two speaker systems (2, 3) to these terminals. If you use only one speaker system, connect it to the FR ONT A or B terminals. ■ CENTER terminals Connect a center spea ker (4) to these terminal s.

21 CONNECTIONS PREP ARA TION If you are using 4 or 6 ohm sp eakers, set the impedance to 4 or 6 ohms as follows before turning on the po wer . Be sure this unit is in the standby mode. 1 T urn off the power to th is unit, and while holding do wn STRAIGHT (EFFECT), press ST ANDBY/ON.
BASIC SETUP 22 The basic setup feature is a useful way to set up your system quickly and with minimal ef fort. y • If you wish to configure the un it manually using more precise adjustments, use the detailed parameters in SOUND MENU (page 58) inst ead of using B ASIC SETUP.

FM/AM TUNING 34 There are 2 tuning methods ; automatic and manual. Automatic tuning is ef fectiv e when station signals are strong and there is no interference. ■ A utomatic tuning 1 Rotate INPUT to select TUNER as the input sour ce. 2 Press FM/AM to select the reception band.
35 FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION ■ Manual tuning If the signal from the station you want to select is weak, tune into it manually . Manuall y tuning into an FM station will automatical ly switch the tuner to monaur al reception to increase the signal qua lity .
36 FM/AM TUNING 3 Press and hold MEMOR Y (MAN’L/A UTO FM) for more than 3 seconds. The preset number , the MEMOR Y and A UTO indicators flash. After a bout 5 seconds, automatic presetting starts from the frequency currently displayed and proceeds to ward the higher frequencies.
37 FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION 4 Press PRESET/TUNING/CH l / h to select a preset station number (1 to 8) w hile the MEMOR Y indicator is flashing. Press h to select a higher preset station number . Press l to select a lower preset station number .
38 FM/AM TUNING 2 Press PRESET/TUNING/CH l / h (or PRESET/CH u / d on the remote contr ol) to select a preset station number (1 to 8). The preset group and number appear in the front panel display along with the station band, frequenc y and the TUNED indicator lights up.
39 FM/AM TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION 3 Select pres et station “A5” u sing A/B/C/D/E and PRESET/TUNING/CH l / h . “A5” and the MEMOR Y indi cator flash in the front panel display . 4 Press PRESET/TUNING (EDIT) again. The stations stored at the two pre set assignments are exchanged.
XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING 40 XM Satellite Radio is the satelli te radio service with millions of listen ers across the U.S., broadcasting li ve daily .
41 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION This section describes the func tions of each control used for XM Satellite Radio tuning. ■ Front panel functions The following controls are only av ailable when the unit is in the TUNER mode and the XM Connec t and Play digital antenna accessory is connected to the XM jack on the rear of this unit.
42 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING T o sign up for an account with the XM Satellite Radio service, an XM Sa tellite Ra dio ID number is required. Follo w the procedure belo w to check your ID number , and then access the website at “htt p://acti vate.xm radio.
43 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION ■ Selecting the XM S atellite Radi o mode 1 Rotate INPUT (or press TUNER on the remote control) to select TUNE R as the input source. 2 Press XM (or B AND on the remote contro l) to select “XM” as the reception band.
44 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING Y ou can search for the channel you wa nt to listen to u sing one of three search modes. Y ou can also enter the number directly to select the desi re d channel. (For details, see “Direct Number Access mode” on page 46.

47 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING BAS I C OPERA TION Y ou can use this feature to store up to 40 XM Satellite Radio channels (eight p reset numbers in fi ve preset groups, A1 to E8). Y ou can then recall any preset channel easily by selecting the preset group and number as described in “Preset Se arch mode” on page 45.
48 XM SATELLITE RADIO TUNING 5 While the MEMOR Y indicator is flashi ng, press MEMOR Y on the unit (or the remote control) to preset the selected XM Satellite Radio chan nel. A colon appears next to the preset number for confirmation, and the MEMO R Y indicator turns off.

52 SOUND FIELD PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS 4 MOVIE THEATER : Spectacle CINEMA DSP process ing. This program creates the extrem ely wide sound field of a 70-mm movie theater. It precisely reproduce s th e sou rc e so und in detail, making both t he video and t he sound field incr edibly real.
53 SOUND FIELD PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS SOUND FIELD PROGRAM S Y ou can select from the fo llowing sound fields when playi ng music sources, like CD, FM /AM broadcasting, tapes, etc. Pro gram selectio n meth od s v ary depending on sou nd field program types.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS 54 Use this feature to automa tic ally set this unit in the standby mode after a certain amount of time. The sleep timer is useful when you are goi ng to sleep while this unit is playing or recording a s ource. The sleep timer also automatically turns of f an y external components connected to A C OUTLET(S).
55 ADVANCED OPERATIONS AD V ANCED OPERA TION Y ou can adjust the output lev el of each speaker while listening to a music source. This is also possible when playing sources through th e MUL TI CH INPUT jacks. Please note that this operation will o verride the le vel adjustments made in “B ASIC SETUP” (pa ge 22) and “SP LEVEL” (page 59).
SET MENU 56 Y ou can use the follo wing parameters in SET MENU to adjust a variety of system settings and customize the way this unit operates. Change the ini tial settings (indicated in bold un der ea ch parameter) to reflect the needs of your listening en vironment.
57 SET MENU AD V ANCED OPERA TION Use the remote control to acce ss and adjust each parameter . y Y ou can change SET MENU para meters while the unit is reproducing sound . Y ou cannot change some SET MENU parameters while the unit is in either cinema or music ni ght listening mode.
58 SET MENU Use to manually adjust any sp ea ker setting or compensate for video signal processin g delays when using LCD monitors or projectors. Most of the SOUND MENU parameters are set auto ma tically when you perform “B ASIC SETUP” (see page 22).

62 SET MENU ■ Pa rameter initialization C)PARAM. INI Use this feature to initialize the parameters for each sound field program within a sound f ield program group. When you initialize a sound f ield program group, all of the parameter valu es within that group re vert to their initial settings.

REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES 65 AD V ANCED OPERA TION In addition to controlling this unit, the remote control can also operate ot her A/V components made by Y AMAHA and other manufacturers. T o contro l other components, you must se t up remote control with the appropriate remote control codes.
66 REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES Y ou can control other components by setting the appropriate remote control c odes. Codes can be set up for each input area. For a comple te list of a vailable remote control codes, refer to “LIST OF REMO TE CONTR OL CODES” at the end of this manual.
67 REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES AD V ANCED OPERA TION Once you set the appropriate remote control codes, you can use this remote to c ontrol your other components. Note that so me buttons ma y not correctly operate the selected component. Use the input selector buttons to select the component you wa nt to operate.
68 REMOTE CONTROL FEATURES Y ou can select the unit you want to operate with the remote control by ente ring the library code. 1 Press CODE SET using a ballpoint pen or similar object. The TRANSMIT indicato r on the remote co ntrol blinks twice. 2 Enter the code number “9991” or “9992” (see the table below).

EDITING SOUND FIELD PARAMETERS 72 What really crea tes the ri ch, full tones of a li ve instru ment are the multi ple reflections from the w alls of the room. I n addition to making the sound “live”, these reflections enable us to tell where the player is si tua t ed, and the size and shape of the room in which we are sitting.
73 EDITING SOUND FIELD PARAMETERS ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION 5 Repeat st eps 2 thr ough 4 as n ecessary to change other pr ogram parameters . Y ou cannot change parameter values when “MEMOR Y GU ARD” is set to ON. If you want to cha nge the parameter values, set “MEMOR Y GU ARD” to OFF (see page 61).

RESETTING THE FACTORY PRE SETS 80 If you want to reset all of your unit’ s parameters for any reason, do the follo wing. This procedure comple tely resets ALL parameters, including th e SET MENU, lev el, assign and tuner presets. Be sure this unit is in standb y mode.
