The P aperP ort CD includes all the necessary installation files, as well as the P aperP ort software files and other softwar e files.
STEP 1: I NSTALLING THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 6 3. F rom the list of options that appears on the scr een, select ScanSoft P aperP or t . 4. F ollow the instructions on the screen to install the P aperP ort software on your computer . During installation, a message tells y ou to connect the scanner to the computer .
7 V ISIONEER P HOTO P ORT 7700 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE STEP 2: C ONNECTING THE S CANNER Y our P hotoP or t 7700 scanner connects to any available USB port. Check your computer ’ s user’ s guide for its USB port locations. T o connect the PhotoP ort 7700 scanner to a USB port: 1.
STEP 2: C ONNECTING THE S CANNER 8 3. T urn the scanner o ver to see the locking tab on the bottom. Slide the locking tab to the unlocked position. 4. Plug the po wer adapter cable into the po wer jack on the back of the scanner . 5. Plug the po wer adapter into an A C (wall) outlet.

Y our computer r ecognizes that a scanner has been plugged into the USB port and automatically loads the appr opriate software fr om the CD to run the scanner .
STEP 3: C HECKING O UT Y OUR S CANNER 10 T o check the status of the scanner: 1. Place the mouse pointer on the scanner icon in the Windows taskbar . 2. Right-click the icon. The shortcut menu appears. 3. Choose About from the shortcut menu. A dialog box confirms that the scanner is pr operly connected.

Make sur e all the cables are plugged in securely . • Is the scanner ’ s power light on? If the light does not come on, plug the pow er adapter into another electrical outlet.
STEP 3: C HECKING O UT Y OUR S CANNER 12 If you try all the troubleshooting pr ocedur es described abo ve and in the Readme file, and the scanner icon still has a r ed X through it, you may have a malfunctioning scanner . Please see the technical support card that you receiv ed with your scanner for technical assistance telephone numbers.

If you ar e inserting a CompactF lash car d, the release button pops out when the car d is properly in place. The slot for SmartM edia cards does not hav e a release button.

In addition to selecting a new size, y ou can also crop and rotate an image, and or der additional prints.

The next time y ou open the application, the images are still av ailable so you can or der the prints.

T o select a new drive letter name for a slot, click the “Change to ” drop-down menu and choose a new letter .

When the remaining images ar e those you want to transfer , click Send I mages . Y our scanner transfers the images from the car d and displays them in the appropriate destination application.

The tabs across the top of the dialog bo x correspond to the buttons. Clicking a tab shows the curr ent settings for the corresponding button on the scanner .
37 V ISIONEER P HOTO P ORT 7700 USB S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Select Configuration —the list of the button ’ s scan configurations. The configuration settings include: color , black and white, or grayscale, resolution in dots per inch (dpi), page siz e, brightness, and contrast.
C ONFIGURING THE S CANNER 38 G ETTING H ELP Y ou can get help with the scanner ’ s features or any of the options on the Configuration dialog box using either of the follo wing methods: ■ When the Configuration dialog bo x is display ed, pr ess the F1 key on the computer ’ s keyboard.

C ONFIGURING THE S CANNER 40 A DJUSTING S CAN S ETTINGS AND P AGE S ETTINGS When scanning using a configuration that y ou created y ourself , you can adjust that configuration ’ s scan settings and page settings. F or example, if the scanned image is too dark, y ou can adjust the brightness of the scan setting.

C ONFIGURING THE S CANNER 42 5. Click the P age Settings tab to adjust the scan page settings. P age Size —Choose a page siz e from the dr op-down list. The outlines on the picture r epresent the various page sizes. Clicking one of those outlines also selects it as the page siz e for the scan.

T o use one of the preset r esolutions for typical scanned items, click one of the options in the list. F or example, to set the resolution for scanning a business car d, select Business Car d (OCR).
