4 Welcome Thank you for purchasing a Uniden Multi-Handset phone. Note: Illustrations in this manual are used for explanation purposes. Some illustrations in this manual may differ from the actual unit.
5 T erminology used in this Manual Standby The handset and the base are not in use. If the handset is on the cradle or [ /ash ] or [ ] on the handset or [ ] on the base is not pressed, no line has been activated. No dial tone is present. CID Caller ID is available from your T elephone provider and is of fered to users on a subscription basis.

9 Using the Interface Reading the Handset Display The handset display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Icon Status Description T alk The privacy icon appears when Privacy mode is turned on.
10 Reading the Base Display The base display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Icon Status Description T alk The privacy icon appears when Privacy mode is turned on. T alk The call record icon appears while recording a conversation.
1 1 The Standby Screen When the phone is in standby , the handset and base display shows the following items: Handset Ringer off icon (when the ringer is of f)/ day of the week and time / battery icon Handset ID and Banner Number of new Caller ID calls received (If there are no new Caller ID messages, the Handset ID appears here.
12 Using the Four-way Function Key Y our handset and the base have a four-way function key that allows you to move the cursor (or highlighted area) on the display and access the most commonly used features at the touch of a button. By moving this key to the left, you open the Phonebook.
13 Entering T ext from your Phone Y ou can use the number keypad on your handset or base to enter text by referring to the letters printed on each number key . When you press the number key in a text entry eld, the phone displays the rst letter printed on the number key .
14 Installing the Phone Choosing the Best Location When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider: The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous power outlet (one which is not connected to a switch).
15 W all Mounting the Base This phone can be mounted on any standard wall plate. Snap the wall mount adaptor into the notches on the base top. Plug the AC adaptor into the DC IN 9V jack. Wrap the AC adaptor cord inside the molded wiring channel as shown.
16 Direct W all Mounting If you don’t have a standard wall plate, you can mount your phone directly to the wall. Before doing this, consider the following: Avoid electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that could cause a hazard when inserting screws into the wall.
17 Installing the Rechargeable Battery Use only the Uniden BT -446 or BT -750 rechargeable battery pack supplied with your cordless telephone. Follow the steps below to install a battery: Press in on the handset battery case cover (use the nger indention for a better grip) and slide the cover downward to remove.
18 Connecting the Base and Charging the Handset Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN 9V jack. Connect the AC adaptor to a continuous power supply (i.e., an outlet that is not controlled by a switch). Place the handset in the base with the LCD screen facing forward.
19 Installing the Belt Clip Line up the holes on each side of the handset. T o attach the belt clip, insert into the holes on each side of the handset. Press down until it clicks. T o remove the belt clip, pull either side of the belt clip to release the tabs from the holes.
20 Changing the Dial Mode (Australian Model Only) Y our phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing.
21 Basic Setup Setting the Day & Time T o change the day and time shown in the display , follow the steps listed below . Note: If you don’t press any keys for two minutes when setting the date and time, the phone will exit the menu. Press the MENU soft key .
22 Activating Distinctive Ring (Handset only) Y ou can assign special ring tones to anyone in your phonebook. When your phone gets a call, it looks up the Caller ID information in your phonebook. If you’ve assigned a Distinctive ring to that number , the phone uses it so you know who is calling.
23 Activating the Key T ouch T one (Handset only) Key T ouch T one is the tone your keypad makes when keys are pressed. Y ou can turn this tone on or off. Press the MENU soft key . Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the KEY TOUCH TONE submenu. Move the cursor to select ON or OFF .
24 Adding Accessory Handsets Y our phone supports up to ten (10) handsets, including any handsets supplied with your phone. Accessory handsets do not need to be connected to a phone jack. Y ou can now place a fully-featured cordless handset anywhere AC power is available to connect the handset charger .
25 Registering DSS7905 Accessory Handsets Y our phone supports a total of ten (10) cordless handsets. Handset(s) supplied in the box with the phone base are pre-registered at the factory . If you purchase an accessory handset, you need to register the handset before use.
26 Registering DSS7805WP Compatible Handsets Disconnect the base AC adapter . While holding the [ash/nd handset], reconnect the AC adapter until the charge/in use LED starts blinking. On the handset, press and hold [#] until you hear a beep. While the handset is registering, HANDSET REGISTERING will appear in the LCD.
27 Setting up the Phonebook Y our phone allows you to store up to 100 names in your handset and base phonebook. Y our phone shares memory between your phonebook and CID with a total of 100 entries. Once you store 100 phonebook entries, CID information will not be stored and will only display at time of new incoming calls.
28 Enter the number for this entry . Once you have stored a name, STORE/EDIT NO. appears next. Use the number keypad, [#/>] , [ tone /<] , or the DELETE soft key to enter the phone number ; the phone number can contain up to 20 digits.
29 Finding a Phonebook Entry Phonebook entries are stored in alphabetical order . T o scroll through the phonebook, press [ ] and then press [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key . Press and hold [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key to scroll through the display quickly .
30 Storing Caller ID or Redial Numbers (Handset only) in the Phonebook Y ou can store Caller ID records or redial numbers in the phonebook so you can use them later . Go to the Caller ID or redial list and select the number you want to store. (If the Caller ID information did not include the number , then you will not be able to store it.
31 Copying Phonebook Entries to another Station Y ou can transfer stored phonebook entries from one station to another without having to re-enter names and numbers. Y ou can transfer one phonebook entry at a time or all phonebook entries at once. When the phone is in standby , press [ ] .
32 Customizing Y our Phone Changing the Handset Banner (Handset only) Each handset will display a banner name once it is registered to the base. The default banner is Handset #1, Handset #2, etc. Y ou can change the name your phone displays by changing the banner display .
33 Selecting a Ring T one (Handset only) Y ou may choose from 10 melodies or 10 tones for your phone’s primary ring tone. Each station can use a different ring tone or melody .
34 Activating AutoT alk (Handset only) AutoT alk allows you to answer the phone simply by removing the handset from the cradle. Y ou do not have to press any keys to answer the call. Press the MENU soft key Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the AUTO T ALK submenu.

36 Making a call from the Phonebook When the phone is in standby , press [ ] to open the phonebook. Scroll through the list with the [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function keys until you nd the phonebook entry you want to call. (See Finding a Phonebook Entry on page 29).
37 Using Caller ID, Call W aiting and Redial Lists If you subscribe to Caller ID from your phone company , your phone will show you the caller ’s phone number and name (if available) whenever a call comes in.
38 Making a call from a Caller ID Record When the phone is in standby , press [ ] (on the right side of the four-way key) to open the Caller ID list. Use [ ] or [ ] to nd the Caller ID record you want to dial. Press [ /ash ] or [ ] on the handset or [ ] on the base to dial the number .
39 Using Call W aiting If you have Call W aiting service and a second call comes in when you are on the phone, a call waiting tone will sound. (If you subscribe to Caller ID on Call W aiting, the handset displays the name and phone number of the waiting call.
40 Redialing a Number Y ou can quickly redial the last 3 numbers dialed on each station. With the phone in standby , press the REDIAL soft key to open the redial list. Use [ ] or [ ] to scroll through the redial list. When you nd the number you want to dial, press [ /ash ] or [ ] on the handset or [ ] on the base to dial the number .
41 Adjusting the Ringer , Earpiece and Speaker V olume Adjusting the Ringer V olume Y ou can choose from three ringer volume settings on the handset and the base (off, low , high). With the phone in standby , use [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key to adjust the ringer volume.
42 The “T -coil” mode icon will no longer appear on the handset LCD display . Note: Using the T -coil mode may shorten the amount of time you can talk on your handset between battery charges. Therefore it is recommended that the handset be returned to the charging cradle when not in use.
43 T ransferring a Call Y ou can transfer a call from one station to another . During a call, press [int’com/hold] . Use [ ] or [ ] to select the station you want to transfer the call to, then press the OK soft key . The call will automatically be placed on hold, and a paging tone sounds.
44 Using Special Features Do Not Disturb (All calls) DND allows you to mute the ringer of all registered handsets and the base. With the phone in standby , press and hold [dnd] on the base. Y ou will hear a conrmation tone and the [dnd] LED illuminates.
45 Privacy Mode If you don’t want another station to interrupt you while on a call, you can turn on privacy mode. As long as your station is in privacy mode, other stations won’t be able to join your call or make any calls of their own. While on a call, press the MENU soft key .
46 Making a DirectLink Call T o call another handset with DirectLink, press the DirectLink soft key . Select the handset you want to call by pressing the number key ( 0 - 9 ). If the handset is out of range or not in DirectLink operation, the display shows OUT OF RANGE.
47 Answering an Intercom Page When the intercom page tone sounds, the display will show the ID of the station that is paging. Press [ /ash ] , [int’com/hold] , or the ANSWER soft key on the handset (or [int’com/hold] , [ ] , or the ANSWER softkey on the base).
48 Note: W arning! The Room monitor function is not a replacement for regularly checking the safety and security of children. The operating time is limited to the remaining charge of the battery and is not suitable for continuous overnight use. This telephone system is not intended to replace an AC powered room monitoring system.
49 Installing the Optional Headset Y our phone may be used with an optional headset. T o use this feature, insert the headset plug into the headset jack. Y our phone is ready for hands-free conversations. Headsets may be purchased by calling the Uniden Parts Department.
50 Setting Up the Answering Machine Y our phone has a built-in answering machine that answers and records incoming calls. Y ou can also use your answering machine to record a conversation or leave a voice memo.
51 Using the Answering Machine Interface Using Handset and Base Menus Y ou can set up your answering machine's primary features from the base or handset. The menu options of the base have voice prompt. When the phone is in standby , press the MENU soft key and then scroll down and select ANSW .
52 Y our Greeting Y our answering machine comes with a pre-recorded outgoing message or greeting that plays when you receive a call: "Hello, no one is available to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone." Or you can record your own personal outgoing greeting.
53 Selecting a Greeting (Base only) Once you have recorded a personal greeting, the phone automatically switches to your personal greeting. Y ou can also switch back and forth between the pre-recorded greeting and your own greeting at any time. With the phone in standby , press the MENU soft key .
54 Setting the Number of Rings The ring time setting allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before your answering machine plays the outgoing message.
55 Activating the Message Alert The Message Alert feature sounds a short alert tone every 15 seconds whenever you have a new message. T o turn on the message alert: Press the MENU soft key . Select the ANSW . SETUP menu, and then the MESSAGE ALERT submenu.
56 Using the Answering Machine The message counter on the LCD displays the number of messages stored in memory . If the display ashes, then there are new messages waiting for you that you have not yet listened to. The answering machine plays your new messages rst.
57 From the base From the handset T urning Off With the phone in standby , press [ ] . The phone announces "Answering System is off." appears.
58 From the base From the handset Repeating a message Press [ ] or the soft key once to go to the beginning of the current message. Press [ ] or the soft key repeatedly to go back to a previous message. Press and hold to rewind through the current message.
59 Screening Calls Y our phone allows you to listen to callers leaving a message without answering the phone. Y ou can always hear callers from the base speaker .
60 Recording a Conversation Y ou can record a conversation between 2 seconds and 10 minutes long from the handset or the base. These recorded conversations are treated just like regular messages. When the answering machine is full, will appear on the base LCD and recording will be terminated.
61 Recording a V oice Memo The voice memo feature allows you to record messages that are between 2 seconds and 4 minutes long. Y ou might want to use this feature to leave messages for other members of your household instead of written notes.
62 Remotely Operating Y our Answering Machine Y ou can access your answering machine while you are away from home to check, play , delete messages, or even record a new greeting message or to turn your answering machine on and off.

66 Battery Replacement and Handling With average use, your phone’s battery should last approximately one year . T o order replacement batteries, please contact Uniden’s Parts Department.
67 Low Battery Alert When the battery pack is very low , the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in order to save power . When LOW BA TTERY appears in the display and the phone is in standby , none of the keys will operate. If you are on a call, complete your conversation as quickly as possible, and return the handset to the charging cradle.
68 T roubleshooting Resetting the Handset Y ou may need to reset your handset in the following instances: Y ou lose a handset and purchase a new one. When you try and register to your existing base you get registration failure. Y ou are unable to register any handsets to the base.
69 Changing the Digital Security Code The digital security code is an identication code used to connect the handset and the base. Y our unit ships from the manufacturer with a preset security code.
70 Symptom Suggestion Can’t make or receive calls. Make sure that you are not too far from the base. Make sure the line is not in use. If an outside call is already using a line, you cannot use that line to make another outside call. Check both ends of the base telephone line cord.
71 Symptom Suggestion An extra handset can’t join the conversation. Make sure there are not 2 handsets already using the conference feature. Make sure that another station is not in privacy mode. • • The Room Monitor feature does not work. Make sure to place the handset(s) within the range of the base.
72 Liquid Damage Moisture and liquid can damage your cordless phone. Follow the suggestions below if your phone gets wet. Exterior If the handset or base is exposed to moisture or liquid, but only the exterior plastic housing is affected, wipe off the liquid, and use as normal.
