EN 13 8) Charm Bar The Charm Bar is a bar with quick links to some of the important func tions of the Sur fT ab. Y ou can show or hide the Charm Bar on the home screen or the desktop view . T o open the Charm Bar, swipe your finger fr om the right edge of the screen towar ds the centre of the screen.
EN 14 9) Using and setting up the home screen T o go to the home screen, tap the Windows button (A). Selecting an element Using your fingertip, briefly tap the desired live tile or an input area in or der to open it.
EN 15 Arranging and sorting the live tiles The live tiles displayed on the home scr een can be arranged to suit your prefer ence. T o access the edit mode for a particular live tile, place your finger on the live tile and hold the tile until a small tick appears in its top-right corner.
EN 16 Calling up the Applications menu The Applications menu is located "beneath" the home screen. T o call up the Applications menu, place your fingertip on a free area of the home screen and "drag" the home screen up .
EN 17 10) Connecting the Sur fT ab to the Internet Connecting to the Internet via W iF i a) T ap the Windows button to swit ch to the home screen. b) Open the Char m Bar by swiping your finger inwar ds from the right-hand edge of the screen. c) T ap " s et tings " in the Charm Bar.
EN 18 WPS If a WPS authentication method (f or example, a PIN) was set up for your r outer , the Sur fT ab shows a different input field. Ent er the PIN in the input field (or follow the selected auth.
EN 19 a) Make sure that your Sur fT ab is connec ted to the Internet (see Section 11). b) Drag the home screen to the left until you see the Microsoft O ffice tile. T ap the Office tile. i If you cannot find the Office tile here, open the Applications menu b y dragging the home screen up.
EN 20 If you do not yet have a Microsoft account or are not signed in with it, you must per form these steps. Open the Windows Store and select the desired app. T ap the app and then tap "I nst all " . An assistant now appears to guide you through the process of setting up a Microsoft account.
EN 21 n) T ap the desired device and confirm with " n ext " . The Sur fT ab now sends the selected file to the desired device. o) Y ou may also have to confirm receipt of the file on the destination device.
EN 22 14) Connecting the Sur fT ab to a television Y ou can transfer the image and sound from the Sur fT ab to a suitable television via HDMI cable or Miracast. Connecting to a television via Miracast Miracast technology is a peer-to-peer standard for image transf er .
EN 23 15) Using the camera i When you use the camer a for the first time, you are ask ed whether the camera is allowed to use your current loc ation. A camera application is already installed on your SurfT ab. It is available on the home screen as a live tile with a camera symbol.
EN 24 Calling up options and front camera T o call up fur ther options of the camera application or to switch to the front camera, swipe your finger from the bottom edge of the display t owards the centre. A list of available options appears . T ap the desired option to call it up.
EN 25 f ) Under " i mporant upDa tes " , selec t how the SurfT ab should proceed with updates in future. i F urther down on the same screen, you can also specify how the SurfT ab should handle other forms of updates (" r eCommeNded upda tes " and " m iCrosoft u pdate ").
EN 26 18) Reset and recovery Reset If your Sur fT ab " freezes" and no longer responds, y ou can restart it. Press and hold down the on/off switch until the device switches off . Wait f or about 20 seconds and then turn the device on normally.
