Basic Operation Before using the T .sonic ™ 840 for the first tim e you need to charge the internal battery for at least 12 hours by plugging it into a computer using the Mini USB to USB A-T ype cable. Charging the Battery Plug the small end of the Mini USB t o USB A-T ype cable into the Mini USB connector on the T .
Power OFF z Press and Hold the “PLA Y / P AUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button to Power OFF th e T .sonic ™ 840 . It takes a few seconds t o Power OFF the unit.
Menu gives you access to the MUSIC , RADIO , REC ORD , VIDEO , PHOTO , E-book and SETTINGS Modes. File Navigation z Press and Hold the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) in the MUSIC , RECORD , VIDEO , PHOT O , or E-book Mode to enter the File Navigator for that mode.
MUSIC Mode If you want to buy DRM (Digit al Rights Management) music online please be advised that the T .sonic ™ 840 only support s WMA-DRM10 music files and you must use the MTP Music T ransfer Mode to transfer the files to the player . Play MP3, WMA and WMA-DRM10 (Subscription) Music 1.
3. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a desired MP3/WMA, or WMA-DRM10 file. 4. Press the “PLAY / PAUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button to play the MP3/WMA, or WMA-DRM10 music file. T .sonic ™ 840 only supports Mpeg I Layer 3 and WMA files compressed at a rate between 32 Kbps – 320Kbps.
6. Pushing the “Menu Switch” up ( Previous ) and selecting the top entry in the root directory [/Root.DIR/] (top folder level) will quit the Navigator . Delete a file in the MUSIC Mode 1. In the MUSIC Mode, Press and Hold the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Navigator .
RADIO Mode Listen to the Radio 1. The Earphones must b e plugged in to listen to the Radio. 2. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Main Menu. 3. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) until you reach the “RADIO” icon.
Increase/Decrease the Volume 1. Press once, or Press and Hold the “Volume Up” button “ + ” , or “Volume Down” button “ - ” until you reach the desired volume level. Saving a Radio Station Y ou can save your 20 favorite Radio stations from CH 01 to CH 20 in the T .
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the channel number of the Radio station to which you want to listen and press the “PLAY / PAUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button then the Radio station that has been saved to this channel will b egin to play.
7. Radio Recordings are saved in the RECORD Mode in the [/FMIN.DIR/] folder, Recorded Radio files are saved in the order [Month/DayF001.WAV] , then [Month/DayF002.
RECORD Mode Record Sound The T .sonic ™ 840 has advanced recording features and is capable of recording audio from 2 dif ferent sources: FM Radio or Built-In Microphone. Both are capable of making very high quality Audio Recordings. The FM Radio recording feature has been covered in the previous section “ Record a Radio S tation .

VIDEO Mode If you want to play V ideos on your T .sonic ™ 840 you must convert your V ideo file(s) to the ‘.mtv’ file format before transferrin g the Video to the player . Play MTV Video files on your T.sonic ™ 840 1. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Main Menu.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a folder. 3. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter a folder, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a file and press the “PLAY / PAUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button to play a selected Video file.

PHOT O Mode If you want to display Photos on y our T .sonic ™ 840 you mus t se lec t a ‘. jpg ’ o r ‘.b mp’ photo file to transfer to the player . Display JPG and BMP Phot o files on your T.sonic ™ 840 1. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Main Menu.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a folder. 3. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter a folder, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a file and press the “PLAY / PAUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button to display a selected Photo file.

E-book Mode If you want to read E-books on your T .sonic ™ 840 you must select a ‘.txt’ E-book file to transfer to the player . Read TXT E-book files on your T.sonic ™ 840 1. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Main Menu.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a folder. 3. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter a folder, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select a file and press the “PLAY / PAUSE / POWER ON-OFF” button to play a selected E-book file.
E-book Functions.
Settings Enter the Settings Menu 1. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the Main Menu. 2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) until you reach the “SETTINGS” icon. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the SETTINGS Mode.
User EQ Customization The User EQ allows you to customize the settings of a 5 Band Equalizer to your personal preferences. 1. In the EQUALIZER Mode, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the User EQ item, then press the “Menu Sw itch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the USER EQ Mode.
Repeat Mode There are several REPEA T Modes to choose from: Normal, Repeat One, Repeat All, Shuffle and Normal/Repeat/Shuffle all the files in a Folder . 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the Repeat item, then press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to enter the REPEAT Mode.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to switch between the 5 Play Speed settings: 1.00x – 1.14x – 1.33x – 0.67x – 0.80x . Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to select the Play Speed and return to the SETTINGS Menu.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to switch between the 3 Record Quality settings: Low – Middle – High . Press the “Menu Sw itch” inwards ( MENU ) to select the Record Quality level and return to the SETTINGS Menu.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the DISABLE , or ENABLE option and press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to confirm the selection and return to the SETTINGS Menu. Sleep Sets a time delay to automatically Power OFF the T .
Screen Saver Sets a time delay for th e screen to (1) display the Song Title , (2) display Clock , (3) go Blank , or (4) display Slide Show , if no buttons are being pressed e.
Slide Show Time Sets a time delay for the photo that is currently being displayed on the screen to change to the next photo. Y ou must use the SlideShow Maker software application to setup a photo slideshow . The Slideshow feature will only work on “.
Sync. Lyrics Karaoke-type feature that displays the lyrics of a song on the Color LCD screen during Playback. 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the Sync. Ly rics item, then press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to ent er the Sync.
2. Push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to switch between the Time, Month, Day and Year. Press the “Volume Up” button “ + ” , or “Volume Down” button “ - ” to change the time, or date. 3. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) in the Date/Time Setting Menu to return to the SETTINGS Menu.
2. In the Time Zone screen, push the “Menu Switch” down ( Next ) or up ( Previous ) to select the Time Zone you are in. 3. Press the “Menu Switch” inwards ( MENU ) to confirm the new time zone and return to the SETTINGS Menu.
3. Enabling the Daylight Saving Time feature will automatically adjust the T.sonic ™ 840 ’s Clock by plus, or minus one hour depending on the time of year and the time zone you are in. Language Sets the T .sonic ™ 840 ’ s User language, including the display of song and artist tit les.
FM Reset Resets the saved Radio st ations, so the next time you enter the RADIO Mode the T .sonic ™ 840 will automatically scan and save the 20 strongest Radio st ation signals.

When transferring files in the MTP Media Transfer Mode you will have the option of using two folders to store files, an MTP Media , or Data Folder.

In the USB Mode (WMA-DRM10 NOT supported) you can dr ag and drop files onto any media specific folders that you have created, or onto the T.
Driver Inst allation Driver Installation for Windows ® Me, 2000, XP and Vista No drivers are required. These Windows ® Operating Systems have built-in drivers to support the T .sonic ™ 840 . Plug your T .sonic ™ 840 into an available USB port and Windows ® will inst all the necessary files.
Connecting to a Computer If you want to buy and play WMA-DRM10 (only) music files, or you are using Windows Media Player 10 you must choose the MTP (Media T ransfer Protocol) Music T ransfer Mode to transfer and synchronize music files between the computer and your T .
Download and Upload Music and other Files If you want to buy and play WMA-DRM10 (only) music files, y ou must select Windows Media Player 10 to transfer and synchronize your WMA-DRM10 music files with the T .sonic ™ 840’ s MTP Folder . Other than the Radio, if you want to be enterta ined by your T .
3. After you connect the T.sonic ™ 840 to a computer its screen will display a “ READY ” message, indicating that files can be loaded onto the player. If you are u sing Windows ® a new Removable Disk drive with a newly assigned drive letter representing the T.
6. Always disconnect the T.sonic ™ from a computer by selecting and following the instructions for the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon that can be found on the Windows ® Toolbar at the bottom of the computer screen.
Disconnecting from a Computer Before removing your T .sonic ™ 840, always ensure the Color LCD Display is not in the READ/WRITE status, otherwise your files or T .sonic ™ 840 may be damaged. Removing the T.sonic ™ 840 in Windows ® Me, 2000, XP and Vista 1.
T .sonic ™ Sof tware The T .sonic ™ 840 comes with some very useful bundled sof tware that can increase your productivity and enhance your entertainment experience. The three sof tware applications that come with your T .sonic ™ are: z T ranscend Multimedia Converter z Slideshow Maker z T .
Figure 1 1. Select a langu age 3. The T.sonic ™ Software Menu window will appear. Select the “ Transcend Multimedia Converter ” , “ Slideshow Maker , ” or “ T.sonic ™ Utility ” software option and click on the “Next” button to begin installing the software program.
T ranscend Multimedia Converter If you want to play Videos on your T .sonic ™ 840 you must convert your V ideo files to the ‘.mtv’ file format using the T ranscend Multimedia Converter before transferring the Video files to the p layer . The T .
3. After you select a Video file for conversion to the “.mtv” format, click on the “Video Output” button to select a destination for the converted file. Figure 15. Slideshow Maker If you want to use the Slideshow feature on your T .sonic ™ 840 you must first, convert your Photo fil es t o the ‘.sls’ file format using the Slideshow Maker , t hen transfer the Slideshow files to the player . The T .sonic ™ 840 will only display a Slideshow of y our Photos if they are converted to the “.
3. You can Preview the Photo files that you are going to convert in the Preview P anel. After you select all the Photo files that you want to convert to the “.sls” format, click on the “Transform” button to continue. Figure 20. Preview and S tart Converting 4.

PC-Lock Function When the PC-Lock Function is enabled, you can use your T .sonic ™ as a key to lock your computer protecting it from use by others. The PC-Lock function is not supported in the Mac ™ or Linux ™ Operating Systems. T o use the PC-Lock function, you must log in to the Windows OS with Administrator rights.
3. After selecting the Enable PC-Lock you can type the Text to be displayed on the screen while the computer is locked. Figure 28. Screen Saver T ext 4. If you want to set a timer to automatically unlock your computer select the “Enable Timer” option.
5. Click on the “OK” button to start the PC-Lock . Figure 30. Enable PC-Lock Lock Your Computer After the PC-Lock function is enabled, your computer w ill be locked when ever you remove your T .sonic ™ . When your computer is locked, the screen will display the T ext screen saver .
Partition & Security Function Enabling this feature allows you to setup a secure area on the T .sonic ™ to protect your personal information with a Private Password. Y ou can partition the T .sonic ™ into Public and Private Password protected areas.
Use the T.sonic ™ Security Features 1. Click on the “Login/Logout” button in the T.sonic Utility window. Figure 34. T .sonic Utility Login/out 2. The Login/out window will appear. Input your Password and click on the “Login” button to enter the T.
2. The New Pas sword window will appear. Input your current “Passw ord , ” a “New Password , ” “Confirm Password” and a “New Password Hint” (a reminder, should you forget your password). Click on the “OK” button to complete the New Password setup.
T roubleshooting If a problem occurs with your T .sonic ™ 840 , please first check the information listed below before t aking your T .sonic ™ 84 0 for repair . If you are unable to remedy a problem from the following hints, please consult your dealer , service center , or local T ranscend branch office.
Cannot enter the RECORD Mode T o make sure the recorded file will not be lost, tw o safety mechanisms are provided. 1. If the remaining battery capacity is less than 10%, you cannot enter the RECORD Mode. 2. During recording, if the remaining battery capacity goes below 10% the T.
Cannot play a Vide o file on my T.sonic ™ 840? The T .sonic ™ 840 only supports “.MTV” V ideo files, please see the “ T ranscend Multimedia Converter ” section on how to convert your videos to the MTV format.
