9 Introduction Notes on Discs On handling discs Do not touch the pla yback side of the disc. Do not attach paper or tape to discs. On cleaning discs Fingerpr ints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outwards with a soft cloth.

19 Connections Connecting to an amplifier equipped with a DTS decoder Digital Theater Systems (DTS) DTS is a high quality surround technology used in theaters and now av ailable f or home use, on D VD video discs or audio CDs. If you ha ve a DTS decoder or processor , you can obtain the full benefit of 5.
20 Basic playback Playing a Disc This section shows y ou the basics on how to pla y a disc. CAUTION K eep your fingers well clear of the disc tra y as it is closing.
21 Basic playback T o obtain a higher quality picture Occasionally , some picture noise not usually visible during a normal broadcast may appear on the TV screen while playing a D VD video disc because the high resolution pictures on these discs include a lot of inf or mation.
22 Basic playback Playing a Disc (continued) Y ou can play discs at v ar ious speeds, and resume pla yback from the location where you stopped pla yback. PLAY SLOW FWD REV PAUSE/STEP SLOW STOP Playing fast in reverse or forward direction Press REV or FWD during playback.
23 Basic playback Playing in slow-motion Press SLOW during playback. Each time you press the SLO W button, the slo w-motion speed changes. If you press the SLO W button during playbac k, you can vie w the picture in re verse slo w-motion. (Only when using a D VD video disc.
24 Basic playback Locating a Specific T itle, Chapter , or T rack Nor mally , D VD video discs are divided into titles , and the titles are sub-divided into chapters. VIDEO CDs and audio CDs are divided into trac ks. Y ou can quickly locate any specific title, chapter , or trac k.
25 Basic playback Locating a specific chapter or track directly Press T . Skip steps 1 and 2 if you are using a VIDEO CD/ audio CD . Move the cursor control ( ) to highlight the space next to “Chapter .” Press the corresponding number buttons for the chapter or track you want.
26 Advanced playback Press T twice. Y ou may ha ve to press fur ther depending on the disc. Press the button repeatedly until the f ollowing display appears . Press the number buttons to enter the time. Press PLA Y . Playbac k star ts from the desired location.
27 Advanced playback Playing Repeatedly Y ou can play a specific title , chapter, tr ack, or segment repeatedly . Repeating a title, chapter , or track Press REPEA T .
28 Advanced playback Insert a disc and press MEMOR Y during stop. The follo wing displa y appears. Select the items in the order you want by pressing the number buttons, then ENTER for each item. Each time you mo ve the cursor control ( / ), the spaces of “D”, “T” and “C” are highlighted in turn.
29 Advanced playback Playing titles, chapters or tracks in random order Press RANDOM. Each time you press the RANDOM button, the r andom playbac k mode changes as follo ws. 1 T o resume normal playback Press CLEAR . Notes • Some discs may not permit random playbac k operation.
30 Advanced playback Zooming a Picture Y ou can magnify areas within a picture. Zooming a picture Press ZOOM during normal, slow or still playback. As you repeatedly press the ZOOM button, the magnification lev el increases. T o reduce the magnification lev el, press the RETURN button.
