16 TOSHIBA Quality Is Second to None Image quality optimization function: This function controls image quality according to the characteristics of the to ner to be used and enables you to print images of an optimal quality .
TOSHIBA Quality Is Second to None 17 Environment al Harmony Genuine TOSHIBA toner is manufactured with th e environment in mind. We use embo ssed or plastic labels for our toner cartridges making them fully recyclable. In addition, dust and ozone levels have been reduced to improve the wo rking environment.
18 General Precautions General Precautions When inst alling or moving Wa r n i n g y This equipment requires 220 to 240 V AC, 8 A 50/60 Hz el ectric power . For Saudi Arabia 100 V version, it requires 127 V AC, 12 A 50/60 Hz electric power . Do not use a power supply with a voltage other than that specified.
General Precautions 19 Caution y Avoid placing the equipment in a place unsuitable for its weight and also make sure the sur- face is level. Remember that if the equipment falls o ver , serious injuries could result. Weight of the equipment: approx. 32.
20 General Precautions y Use the antiskid devices to fix the equipment when the Paper Feed Pedestal is installed. Under the Paper Feed Pedestal (optional ), t here are 4 antiskid devices and 2 stoppers to prevent its falling.

General Precautions 23 Other point s y Do not turn the power OFF with jammed paper left inside the equipment. This could cause malfunctions when the main switch is turned ON next time. y Be sure to turn the power OFF when leaving the office or if there is a power failure.
24 General Precautions First-aid measures If you inhale or touch toner , etc; carry out the following treatment. y Inhalation: Remove from exposure area to fresh air immediately . Contact a physician if there is any difficulty in breathing or other signs of distress.

Description of Each Component 35 “Copy mode” main screen After the power of the equipment is turned ON and the warm-up is finished, the display below is shown on the LCD screen. This display is calle d the “copy mode” main screen. This “copy mode” main screen appears by default after turning th e power ON.

Saving energy when not in us e - Energy saving mode - T o reduce power consumption, the e quipment automatically enters in to the energy saving mode when a specified pe riod of time has passed since its last use.

Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 39 Prep aration 2 - Placing Copy Paper Place copy paper in an appropriate paper source before you start copying. Accept able media types Acceptable media types differ depending on its paper source. See the table below for the det ails.

If you want to use paper other than that we recommend, contact your service technician. *1 Be sure to use the overhead transparencies that TOSHIBA recommends.

1 PREP ARA TION 42 Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 4 Place p aper in the drawer . y The maximum number of she ets that can be placed at one time is 250 (64 to 80 g/m 2 ). Be sure that the stack height of pape r is not higher than the line indi cated at the inner side of the side guide and trailing guide.
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 43 5 Move the end guide to the trailing edge of the p aper while pushing it s lower p art in the direction of the arrows. Do not allow any gap between the paper and the end gu ide in the drawer . 6 While holding the green lever of the fron t side guide, adjust the side guides to the p aper size.
1 PREP ARA TION 44 Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 8 Change the p aper size in dicator to match the size of p aper p laced. 9 Push the drawer straight into the equipment slowly until it comes to a stop. Do not let your fi ngers be caug ht when closing the drawer .
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 45 Placing p aper in the drawers of Paper Feed Pe dest al (optional) Follow the procedure below to place cop y paper in the drawers of the Paper Feed Pedestal (optional). For the acceptable paper , see the following page: P .
1 PREP ARA TION 46 Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 3 Push the right side of the side guide lock to u nlock it. 4 While pushing the green knob of the side gui des, adjust the side guides at the position of the desire d p aper size. Adjust the side guides w ith both hands.
Preparation 2 - Placing Copy Paper 47 6 Adjust the side guides. Be sure that a gap of approx. 0.5 mm (le ss than 1.0 mm in total) is left between the paper and each side guide (shown as “A” in the pict ure). If the gap is inappropriate, this could cause a paper misfeed.

Register the paper size into the equipment. When you place paper , register the size of th e paper into the equipment.
Preparation 3 - Register ing Size of Paper Placed 49 Prep aration 3 - Registering Size of Paper Placed When you place paper in a drawer for the first time or when you place paper whose size is differ- ent from that of the p aper which has been placed in the draw er , the new paper size needs to be registered into the equipment.

If the [CANCEL] button is pressed at this step, the size is not registered and the equipment will return to its normal status.

Placing Originals 55 Placing originals on the original glass Plain paper or some special media types which are not acceptable for the Reversing Automati c Document Feeder (o ptional) / Automatic Do cum ent Feeder (optional), su ch as overhead trans- parencies or tracing paper , should be plac ed on the original glass.

When “Next original?” appears This message appears when “SORT” is selected for the exiting method whi le an original is be ing placed on the original glass, or when 2-sided co pying is being performed.

Paper Selection 69 Paper Selection Y ou can select the size of copy paper in two ways; one is automat ic paper selection in which the equipment automatically selects copy paper of th e same size a s the original, and the other i s manual paper selection in which you can select the desired paper size manually .

Copy Menu 83 Copy function list The copying functions displayed on the copy menu are shown below . Function Description FINISHING ( P .84, P .85, P .86) Selects finishing modes for paper copied and exited to the receiving tray . SORT : Exited in the same order as originals in each set.

This is called magazine sort. Y ou can make a booklet by folding and bindi ng th e stack of copied paper at its center .

4 ADV A NCED COPYING FUNCTIONS 88 Shifting Paper to Ma ke Margin - IMAGE SHIFT - Shif ting Paper to Make Margin - IMAGE SHIFT - Y ou can make a margin on copy paper by shifting the whole paper to the right or left. The margin can be used for punching hole s or stapling.

4 ADV A NCED COPYING FUNCTIONS 90 Erasing Shadow on Edge - EDGE ERASE - Erasing Shadow on Ed ge - EDGE ERASE - When you make copies of thick objects such as books, the edge of copied image may be dark- ened by shadow .

Copying on Both Sides - DUPLEX - 93 BOOK > 2 ( P . 9 6 ) y T o scan 2-sided origi nals automati cally , the Reversing Automatic Document Feede r (optional) is required. y T o copy on the both sides of paper , the Automatic Duplexing Unit (op tional) is required.

4 ADV A NCED COPYING FUNCTIONS 96 Copying on Both Sides - DUPLEX - Copying booklet on both sides Y ou can copy booklet-type orig inals such as books or catalogues on the both sides of paper , as in the same manner as the original. 1 Place p aper in the drawer .
Copying on Both Sides - DUPLEX - 97 5 Select whether the beginning p age of the copy is the right or lef t p age, and also select whet her the ending p age is the right or lef t p age. Then press the [ENTER] button or button. Select among “RIGHT > RIGHT”, “RIGHT > LEFT ”, “LEFT > LEFT” and “LEFT > RIGHT”.
4 ADV A NCED COPYING FUNCTIONS 98 Copying on Both Sides - DUPLEX - 7 Place the original, and then select other copy modes as required. Then press the [ST ART] button. Do not place heavy objects (4 kg or more) and do not press on it with force. Breaking the glass could injure you.
Copying Right and Left Pages Separately - DUAL PAGE - 99 Copying Right and Lef t Page s Sep arately - DUAL P AGE - When you place a booklet-type origina l on the orig inal glass while it is being opened, the right and left pages of the opened section can be co pied separately on different paper .
4 ADV A NCED COPYING FUNCTIONS 100 Copying Right and Left Pages Separately - DUAL PAGE - 4 Select “ON”, and then press the [ENTER] button or button. 5 Specify the margin wid th, and then press the [ENT ER] button. The margin width can be set between 8 mm and 30 mm.

Changing Copy Setting on Each Job - JOB BUILD - 103 Changing Copy Setting on Each Job - JOB BUILD - This function is useful for originals consisting of several jobs (= sta cks). Y ou can change settings and scanning methods fo r each job, and when all the originals have been scanned under the dif- ferent settings, they ar e copied in one go.
