11 Planning a route Important : In the intere st of safet y and to reduce dist r actions whi le you are dr iving, you s hould always p lan a ro ute befo r e you start driv ing. To plan a route o n you r TomTo m Sta rt, do th e fo llowing: 1. Tap the screen to open the Ma in me nu.
12 When the co rrect street name ap pea r s in t he list, tap the name to sele ct the dest ination. 6. Enter t he hou se numbe r , then tap Done . 7. The locatio n is s hown on the map. Tap Select to cont i nue o r tap Back to ente r anot her address.

14 Selecting a route typ e Every time you plan a route, you can choo se to be asked about t h e type of route you wa nt to p lan. To do thi s, tap Settings fo llowed b y Plannin g set tings and the n tap Ask me every time I plan. The type s of ro ute yo u can choose from are as follow s: Fastest route - the route which take s the lea st t ime.
15 Show my freque nt destinations You can set yo ur TomT om Sta rt to as k if you want to plan a route to one of you r freque ntly visited destinat ions e very time the device sta rts. To cha nge this setti ng, do the fo llowi ng: 1. Tap Start-u p sett ings in t h e Sett ings men u a nd t hen select Ask for a dest inatio n .
16 You wil l arrive 19 minute s late. If the estimate d arrival time i s later t han the time you entered, it i s sho wn in red. Status bar sett ings Tap Status bar s etting s in the Sett ings menu , to ena ble o r disable arr ival time not ificatio ns.

18 Fastest route - the route which take s the lea st t ime. Eco route - the mo st fue l-efficie nt route for your jour ney. Shortest route - the shorte st dista nce betwe e n the lo cations you set. This may not be the quickest route, espe cially if the sho r test route is t hrough a tow n or city.

You can na v igat e to a car par k near yo ur de stinat ion, a nd view any availab le informat ion abo ut your destinatio n , for exa mple, the phone numbe r. 20 About the Dr iving V iew When yo ur Tom Tom Start dev ice sta r ts for the fi rst ti me, yo u are show n the D r iving View along with deta iled info r mation about you r curre nt po sition . Tap the centre of the sc ree n at any t ime to open the M ain Men u.
21 Tap thi s part of t he sta tus ba r to s witch betw een a 3D map and a 2D map . 8. The name of t he street you are on. 9. Navigation inst ructio n for th e road ahead a nd t he d istance to next instru ctio n. If the s econd instructio n is le ss that 150m after the firs t inst ructio n, you see it s hown imm ediately instea d of the distan ce.
22 About lane guidance Note : Lane g uidance i s not available fo r all jun ctions o r in al l countrie s. Your TomT om Start he l ps you prepa r e fo r mot orway exits a nd junctio ns by showi ng the co rrect driving lane for yo ur pla nned route. As you approac h an ex it or junct ion, the lane yo u ne ed is show n on the sc reen.
23 Making changes to your route After you plan a route , you may wa nt to change the r oute or eve n the de stinat ion. The re are various way s to change your route w itho ut the need to complete ly replan the enti re jou rney.
24 Minimise delays Tap thi s butto n to avo id traff i c delay s on a pla nned r oute. It is not always pos sible to a void all traffi c de lays. Yo ur Sta rt will check for traffic de lays on your route and ca lculate the be st rou te to avoid all o r most of the de lays.
25 About viewing the map You can v iew the map in t he same wa y a s you m ight look at a tradit iona l pape r map . The map shows yo ur cu rrent locatio n and ma ny oth er location s such as Favou r ites a n d POIs. To view the map in th is way , tap View ma p or Vie w r oute in t he Ma in men u.
26 Marke rs point to your curre nt locat ion (bl ue), yo u r ho me lo cation (ye l low) and you r desti nation (red). T he ma rker show s t he distan ce to the location . Tap a ma rker to centre the map on the locat ion poi nt ed to by t h e ma rker. You can al so set you r own ma r ke r.
27 Cursor menu The curso r can be used to do more than h ighlig ht a l ocation on the ma p . Position th e cursor o n a locat i on on t he map , then ta p Cursor and the n tap one of the follow ing buttons : Navigate th ere Tap thi s butto n to plan a route to the cu rsor po sition o n the map.

40 Manage POIs Manage P OIs Tap thi s butto n to ma nage you r own Po i nt of I ntere st (POI) catego ries a nd locations . You can set yo ur Sta rt to let yo u know when you are near to selected POI locations . For e xample , you could set the de vice to le t you kno w w hen yo u are approa chin g a pet rol stat i on.
41 Planning settings Planning s etting s Tap thi s button to set the way your TomTo m Sta rt calculates the routes that you plan. Set the type of route you want your Start to calc ulate. Tap IQ Routes to s et if yo u wa nt the dev i ce to use IQ Ro utes info rmatio n to help find t h e be st route.
42 Set clock Set clock Tap thi s butto n to sele ct t he time fo r mat. As soon as you have a GPS f ix, the time will be set auto mat ically. If you don 't have a GPS fix, yo u can choose to set the time man ually.
43 Status & Information Status & Informat ion Tap thi s butto n to find techn ical informatio n on yo ur Tom Tom Start, suc h as the dev i ce seria l numbe r, appl icat ion ve rsion and t he map vers ion. You can al so vie w the curre nt statu s for GP S receptio n.

49 Callin g a PO I Many of the POIs on you r TomTo m Sta rt i nclude phone numbe r s. Thi s means t hat yo u can use your Start to fi nd out the phone numb er fo r a POI , cal l them u sing a phone and then pla n a ro ute to the location of the POI.
50 Manage POIs Tap Manage P O Is to manage yo ur POI categor ies an d locat ions. You can set yo ur Sta rt to let yo u know whe n you are near to selected POI lo catio ns. In th is wa y you cou ld, for exa mp le, set t he de vice to let you kno w you w hen yo u a re app roaching a petrol station.

53 About F avourites Favourites pro vide an easy way to select a locat ion w ithout the need to en te r the ad dre ss. They do not need to be fa vou rite pla ces, th ey can simply be see n as a col lection of usefu l addres ses. Creating a Fa vourite To create a Favo urite, do the follow ing: 1.

56 About RDS-TMC The Traffi c Messa ge Channe l (TMC) , also known as RD S -TMC, tra nsmits traff ic info rmation as a radio signa l and is avai lable f ree of charge in ma ny co untries. TMC is not a To mTo m Serv ice, but is avai lable when us ing the TomTo m RDS-TMC Traff ic Receiver .

59 Note : The home locatio n yo u set here is not the same as t he ho me location yo u ca n set in t h e Settings Menu . I n addit ion, the locat ions you use he re do not h ave to be your a ctual home and work lo cations. If there is a nothe r route t hat yo u ofte n travel , you can set Work/ Home to use these locat i ons instead.
