Pref ace Introduction This docu ment discusses the Texas Instrum ents Dock Mate System. This system is a low-cost, mu lti-port adapter fo r use with the T ravelMa te 5000 Series notebook computers .

Unpackin g Instructio ns The DockMate is shipped with the following hardware compon ents: ❏ Dock Mate ❏ DockM ate Use r’s Guide ( this m anual) ❏ Acces sory Kit Unpack the DockMate using the foll owing instructions: 1. Carefully cut the tape that sea ls the top flap of the shipping carton.
DockMate Soft ware Installatio n A D ockMate Sy stem Ins tallation diske tte is provided with your DockMate. Software on this disk ette updates the T ravelMate B IOS software with the latest version that supports you r DockMate.
10. Press Es c-F4 to save the confi guration. The insta llation pr ocess is comp lete and yo ur compute r reboots . n Note: When using a Do ckMate, plug th e AC adapter supplied with your T ravelMate 5000 in to the Do ckMate. All power on or off is then contr olled by the notebook’s power switc h.
DockMa te Hardware Installatio n Doc king the Notebook Use the following procedure to dock your notebook comp uter: 1. Clear an area on your workstation surface to per mit both units to be flat on the table or desktop while perfor ming the i nitial docking procedure.
Installing an Exter nal PS/2 ® Option The DockMate allows you to attach any of the following to the 6-pin PS/2 connecto rs on the system: ❏ external k eyboard (side port recom mended) ❏ external .
P arallel P or t Connections Y our DockMate is equipped with one DB25 (25-pin) bidirectional parallel port (device name LPT1). This port occupies a ddress 0378h, and is designated as LPT1 (default val ue). Typical ly, the notebook com puter sends print data to LPT1 unless the menu is configured otherwise.

Introduc tion TI provides two utilities that are cop i ed to your system when you ins tall sof twar e from th e DockMate S ystem Installation diskette: ❏ TI Setup - for use with W i ndows 95 and W i.
Using TI Setup TI Setup is copied onto your system at the time you install the DockMate Install ation diskette. TI Setup is used to configure per ipheral ha rdware attached through yo ur DockMate. TI Setup is use d in either Windows or W i ndows 95 en vironme nts.

Using the SetDock Utility SetDo ck is cop ied ont o your sy stem at t he tim e you in stall the Do ckMate Sof tware Installation di skette. The SetDoc k utility is used in the DOS envir onment only. Like TI Setup, it configures your system for u se with peripheral de vices.
n Note: A Dock C onfiguration B sc reen (page 2 of 2) is provided in case yo u have more than one type of DockM ate system and want to maintain settings for both. If both Dock Configuration s A and B are set to the same type of DockM ate system, only Ports Dock A settings are use d.
Exiting SetDock To leave t he SetD ock utilit y, com plete th e followi ng step s: 1. Press Esc . The Exitin g Setup M enu appe ars. 2. Select one of the following options: K ey Function Esc Returns you to the main screen F4 Saves all c hanges, exits Setup, and reboots F5 Loads def ault v alues f or all pages.

Notebook C onnection ❏ V isually inspect the notebook and verify that the notebook is docked properly (refer to Cha pter 2, Dockmat e Installa tion ). ❏ V isually inspect the connectors on the notebook to ensure there is no ph ysical dama ge to the connec tor areas of the notebook.
Option Ins tallation If you experie nce difficulty with a serial device, parallel device, PS /2 device, or exte r nal VGA mon itor , disconnect the DockMate. Connect the pe ripheral to the notebook. If it runs properly, you can d eter mine that the an omaly lies with the DockMate and not with your peripheral or with the notebook.
5. V erify that the IRQ is set to 07. 6. Select OK . Option Installation 4-4 Troubleshooting Procedures.
PCMCIA Card Reco gnition On some T ravelMate Pentium products, a PCMCIA Ethernet card error may occur after DockM ate installation. If this happens, refer to the following sections (W indows 95, W indows 95 Commercial Upgrade, or W indows for W orkgroups) depending on your operating environment.
3. Doub le-click on the Ports (COM & LPT) opti on. A list of selectio ns appears. 4. Doub le-click on Com municatio ns Port (COM2) . The CO M2 configuratio n is displayed. 5. Sele ct the General tab. 6. Deselect Doc k 1 (Current) loca ted in the De vice Usage area .
4. Select DockMate as the Dock Type. 5. Select OK . Y ou are prompted to reboot. 6. Reboot and proceed to Reconfigure System Infor mati on . Windows 95 start s configuring unknown hardwar e (this may happ en multiple time s and is a standard opera tion for Plug ’n Play in Windo ws 95).
6. Close the System Properties window and restart the syst em. Upda te Device Usa ge 1. Go to the S ystem icon located in the Control Panel. 2. Select Ports (COM & L PT) from the Device Manager tab. 3. Doub le-click on Com municatio n Port (COM2) .
5. Ensure that Use autom atic sett ings is dese lected. Accept Config uration C hanges 1. Select OK to close the System Properties window. 2. Close the Contro l Panel. 3. Sele ct the Star t icon at the bottom of your screen. 4. Select Shutdow n . 5. Select Restart th e compu ter .
1. Go to TI Setup (located in the T ravelMate N otebook Center group) a nd select the Syste m Configu ration tab. 2. Ensure that the PCMCIA I/O is changed from Minimum to Maximum. 3. Press Esc-F 4 to save the co nfiguration. 4. Select the Po rts-Dock A .
