Front panel controls Disc drawer The d rawer of the K1 AV is made of a material with very high acoustic damping characteristics. Its flexible, floating support system eliminates the transmission of mechanical vibration to the disc, which would otherwise have an adverse effect on sound quality.
(PLAY/PAUSE) / (Timer) Combi-button for starting the disc and activating the timer. In disc mode: brief press: PLAY Starts the disc from the operating mode ‘STOP’. long press: PAUSE Temporarily halts disc playback. Pressing the same button again resumes playback.
Remote control of the K1 A V The F6 remote control handset controls all the functions of the K1 AV . The adjustments you make are displayed on the machine’s integral screen and also on any TV set which is connected to the system. ON This button switches the K1 AV on a nd off.
In Disc mode In Tuner mode brief press: when playing a CD the screen can be toggled between track display and display of playing time . long press: in con junction with a Metz TV this switche s the screen off, e.
The Amplifier All the fu nctions describ ed in this chapter apply to the amplifier section of the K1 AV . They are available for all source devices, i.e. both for the integral disc player and tu ner and also for external machines connected to the receiver.
Multi-room mode The K1 AV can supply sound to a second room (e.g. your o ffice or the kitchen - multi-room mode) in addition to the main listening room.

Amplifier menu point Balance (BAL) Explanation: The ‘ BALANCE ’ function is used to a djust the balance in volume between the left and right channels, e.g. if the loudspeakers are not set up symmetrica lly. Operation: The current setting can be shifted to left or right in small increments using the Õ or Ö button.

The Tuner For all the functions d escribed in this chapter th e Tuner must be selected as the listening source. First switch the K1 AV to Tuner mode by pressing the button on the front panel, or th e button on the remote control handset.
Alarm Timer The K1 AV features an integral timer module (Timer), which ca n be used to switch on the Tuner source at a programmable time (Radio alarm clock).
Tunermenü Tuner menu point Reception modes (RCVM) Explanation: The Tuner can be switched to an y of three different reception modes (English: R e C ei V e M ode = RCVM): The basic setting of the Tuner is STEREO ( RCVM NORM ).

Tuner menu point Automatic storing (Autostore ) Explanation: When you select automatic storing the tuner searches the entire VHF band for stations which can be received well in STEREO mode , and automatically stores the located stations. It carries out the process twice usin g different search thresholds.
The disc player For all functions described in this chapter the dis c player must be selected as the listening source . The first ste p is therefore to switch the K1 AV to disc player mode by pressing the button on the fro nt panel, or the button on the remote control handset.
Special functions Switching the display A brief press on the butto n toggles the integral screen of the K1 AV between Track and Playing time. Repeat function T he button cycles through the repeat functions o f the K1 AV . Press the button repeatedly if required until the repeat mode you wish to use appears on the screen.
Playing MP3 / JPEG / Pi cture CDs The K1 AV is able to play MP3 music discs, JPEG discs and Picture Discs. These discs are controlled using on- screen menus, so please switch on yo ur TV set and select the picture input to which the K1 AV is connected.

Basic disc player settings (SETUP) Player Setup Menu The disc player in th e K1 AV must be set up to match the characteristics of your TV set a nd your preferred methods of use. The settings required for this are grouped toge ther in a ‘Player Setup Menu’, which is displayed on your television scree n.

General Setup Menu DISC LOCK Not all d iscs are categorised or coded by the manufacturer rega rding their suitability for youn g persons. You can prevent playback of specific DVDs by blocking them, or alternatively relea se the DVD for viewing, disregarding its category.
Audio-Setup Menu ANALOGUE OUTPUT With this option you can determine the sound o utput format of the K1 AV when a disc is being played. Stereo If you select this option , Dolby Digital and dts multi- channel sound tracks are converted into STEREO signals (Downmix), so that they can be re produced through two loudspeakers.
DIGITAL AUDIO-SETUP DIGITAL OUTPUT The digital output of the K1 AV can be used for connecting external surround decoders or digital recording equipment. Set the data format of th e digital output to suit the requirements of the devices to be connected to the unit.
Video Setup TV TYPE This menu contains the options for selecting the TV norm, which must be set to match your monitor or television screen. PAL Select this setting if the picture output is to be repro duced on a PAL TV set. At this setting, DVDs in NTSC format will be converted to the PAL format by the K1 AV .
PROGRESSIVE The ‘Progressive’ menu point can only be altered if you have set the Component output to ’YUV’ (see menu point ‘ Component ’). In pro gressive scan mode the machine generates f.
Basic settings AUDIO SUBTITLE DISC MENU You can select your preferred menu and synchronous language in th e sub-menus Audio, Sub-titles and Disc Menu. If the selected language is not available on a particular disc, the basic disc language will be used instead.

Amplifier Setup Menu (Basic settings menu) The Amplifier Setup Men u is where you define the basic settings of the K1 AV . When using your K1 AV for the first time, please ensure that the menu points relating to your lo udspeaker configuration and intended use are set correctly.

Amplifier Setup Menu point Brightness of th e time display (CLOCK) Explanation: The brightness of th e clock display can be adjusted (dimmed) th rough eight stages (1 to 8).

Sockets ANT Aerial input The K1 AV features a 75 Ω aerial input ANT , which is suitable both for a normal domestic aerial and for a cable connection. ‘Trailing wire’ aerials generally prod uce very limited, poor-quality reception, and should be used at best a s a temporary solution.
B Loudspeaker terminals * The secondary pair of loudspeakers (remote speakers) should be connected to the ¾ B loudspeaker output; these are the speakers in the adjacent room. The impedance of each speaker should be no lower than 4 Ω. * The impedance of each speaker should be no lower than 4 Ω (DIN measurement).
Wiring Notes on connecting the sy stem • You will find wiring diagrams on the following pages. • Be sure to connect all your equipment exactly as shown in these diagrams. • Push a ll connectors firmly into their sockets. L oose connections can cause hum and other unwanted noises.

Approved usage This device is designed exclusively for reproducing sound and / or pictures in the domestic environment. It must be operated in a dry indoor room which meets all the recommendations stated in these instructions.
Glossary Amplifier Setup Menu In the Amplifier Setup Menu the basic settings for th e K1 AV are defined at the time the system is initially installed. The amplifie r setup menu can be op ened with a long press on the button on the re mote control handset.
Disc menu, DVD menu A DVD may contain a disc menu with selection facilities for individual track s and / or chapters . Depending on the DVD, the disc may also contain games, bonus material or alternative camera viewing angles, additional synchronised languages and sub-titles, all of which can be set or called up using the disc menu.
RGB Video A video signal which u ses separate cable conductors to transfer the basic colours: red, gree n and blue. Like YUV Video, RGB delivers the highest-quality video reproduction. RGB is primarily used by European televisions. The picture output of the K1 AV can be set to RGB.
Trouble-shooting Many problems have a simple cause and a correspondingly simp le solution. The following chapter describes a few difficultie s you may encounter, and the measures you need to take to cure them.
Problem: Unwanted whis tling sound from the loudspeakers. Cause: The aerial is too close to a mains cable or Cinch inter-connect lead. Remedy: Re-position the cable an adequate distance away.
Tuner: Problem: The RDS station name does not appe ar on the integral screen. Cause 1: The station is not bro adcasting RDS information, or the station is not correctly tuned. Remedy: Tune in the station so that the tuning indicator is central. Cause 2: Interference is affectin g the station, or the field strength is too low.
