If you have followed all of the procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the ‘T echnical Support Procedures’ and/or ‘Returning Merchandise for Service’ section(s) in this chapter .

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup Utility for the X8DAL-3. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a Flash EEPROM and can be easily updated. This chapter de- scribes the basic navigation of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility setup screens.
4-2 X8DAL-3/X8DAL-i User's Manual Starting the Setup Utility Normally , the only visible Power-On Self-T est (POST) routine is the memory test. As the memory is being tested, press the <Delete> key to enter the main menu of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-3 Processor The AMI BIOS will automatically display the status of the processor used in your system: CPU T ype • : This item displays the type of CPU used in the motherboard. Speed • : This item displays the speed of the CPU detected by the BIOS.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-5 EUP Support Enable this feature for EuP support to meet Eco-design requirements for energy- ef fi cient products. Disable this feature to supply standby power and allow the ma- chine to "wake-up" in the S5 state. The options are Enabled and Disabled .

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-7 Intel® C-ST A TE T ech This feature allows the user to set Processor Idle state for power saving. The op- tions are Disabled and Enabled. C-State package limit setting (A vailable when Intel® C-State T ech is enabled) If set to Auto, the AMI BIOS will automatically set the limit on the C-State package register .
4-8 X8DAL-3/X8DAL-i User's Manual Memory Frequency This feature forces a DDR3 frequency slower than what the system has detected. The available options are Auto , Force DDR-800, Force DDR-1066, and Force DDR-1333. Memory Mode The options are Independent , Channel Mirror, and Lockstep.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-9 will enhance overall system performance by providing direct cache access for data transferring. The options are Enabled and Disabled. DCA Prefetch Delay A DCA Prefetch is used with T OE components to prefetch data in order to shorten execution cycles and maximize data processing ef fi ciency .
4-10 X8DAL-3/X8DAL-i User's Manual Port64h/60h Emulation Select Enabled to enable 64h/60h emulation for complete USB keyboard support for operating systems that are not compatible with USB devices. The options are Enabled and Disabled . USB 2.0 Controller Select Enabled to activate USB 2.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 1 ICH RAID Code Base (This feature is available when the option-RAID is selected) Select Intel to enable Intel's SA T A RAID fi rmware to con fi gure Intel's SA T A RAID settings. Select Adaptec to enable Adaptec's SA T A RAID fi rmware to con fi gure Adaptec's SA T A RAID settings.
4-12 X8DAL-3/X8DAL-i User's Manual PIO Mode The IDE PIO (Programmable I/O) Mode programs timing cycles between the IDE drive and the programmable IDE controller . As the PIO mode increases, the cycle time decreases. The options are Auto , 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-13 Select UDMA2 to allow the BIOS to use Ultra DMA mode 2. It has a data transfer rate of 33.3 MBs. Select UDMA3 to allow the BIOS to use Ultra DMA mode 3. It has a data transfer rate of 44.4 MBs. Select UDMA4 to allow the BIOS to use Ultra DMA mode 4.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-15 Remote Access Con fi guration Remote Access This allows the user to enable the Remote Access feature. The options are Dis- abled and Enabled.
4-16 X8DAL-3/X8DAL-i User's Manual Hardware Health Monitor This feature allows the user to monitor system health and review the status of each item as displayed.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-17 The motherboard fans and CPU will run normally as con fi gured in the BIOS. The fans may adjust to a faster speed depending on the Fan Speed Control settings. User intervention: No action is required. However , consider checking the CPU fans and the chassis ventilation for blockage.

Headless Mode This feature is used to enable system to function without a keyboard, monitor and/ or mouse attached The options are Enabled and Disabled .

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-21 Boot Sector Virus Protection When Enabled, the AMI BIOS displays a warning when any program (or virus) is- sues a Disk Format command or attempts to write to the boot sector of the hard disk drive. The options are Enabled and Disabled .
