1-10 H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User ’s Manual 1-3 Chipset Overview The H8SGL(-F) serverboard is based on the AMD SR5650/SP5100 chipset. This chipset functions as a Media and Communications Processor (MCP). Controllers for the system memory are integrated directly into AMD Opteron processors.
Chapter 1: Introduction 1-1 1 CPU Overheat/Fan Fail LED and Control This feature is available when the user enables the CPU overheat/Fan Fail warning function in the BIOS. This allows the user to de fi ne an overheat temperature. When this temperature is exceeded or when a fan failure occurs, the Overheat/Fan Fail warning LED is triggered.
1-12 H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User ’s Manual W ake-On-LAN (WOL) W ake-On-LAN is de fi ned as the ability of a management application to remotely power up a computer that is powered off. Remote PC setup, up-dates and access tracking can occur after hours and on weekends so that daily LAN traf fi c is kept to a minimum and users are not interrupted.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-13 A TX PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Ports The A TX PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse are located next to the Back Panel USB Ports 0~3 on the motherboard.
H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User's Manual 2-14 Compact Flash Card PWR Connector A Compact Flash Card Power Connector is located at JWF1. For the Compact Flash Card to work properly , you will need to enable with JCF1 and connect a Compact Flash Card power cable to JWF1 fi rst.
Chapter 2: Installation 2-15 VGA Enable/Disable JPG1 allows you to enable or disable the VGA port. The default position is on pins 1 and 2 to enable VGA.
H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User's Manual 2-16 W atch Dog Enable/Disable JWD enables the W atch Dog function, a system monitor that takes action when a software application freezes the system. Jumping pins 1-2 will have WD reboot the system if a program freezes.
Chapter 2: Installation 2-17 2-9 Onboard Indicators LAN1/LAN2 LEDs The Ethernet ports (located beside the VGA port) have two LEDs. On each Gb LAN port, one LED blinks to indicate activity while the other may be green, amber or off to indicate the speed of the connection.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMIBIOS™ Setup utility for the H8SGL(-F) serverboard. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program.
4-2 H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User ’s Manual 4-2 Main Menu When you fi rst enter AMI BIOS Setup Utility , you will see the Main Menu screen. Y ou can always return to the Main Menu by selecting the Main tab on the top of the screen with the arrow keys.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-3 W ait for F1 if Error This setting controls the system response when an error is detected during the boot sequence. When enabled, BIOS will stop the boot sequence when an error is detected, at which point you will need to press the F1 button to re-enter the BIOS setup menu.

On Chip SA T A Channel This setting allows you to Enable or Disable the OnChip SA T A channel. On Chip SA T A T ype Use this setting to set the On Chip SA T A type.
4-8 H8SGL(-F) Serverboard User ’s Manual PIO Mode PIO (Programmable I/O) mode programs timing cycles between the IDE drive and the programmable IDE controller . As the PIO mode increases, the cycle time decreases. The options are Auto , 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-9 PCI/PnP Con fi guration Clear NVRAM Select Y es to clear NVRAM during boot-up. The options are Y es and No . Plug & Play O/S Select Y es to allow the OS to con fi gure Plug & Play devices. (This is not required for system boot if your system has an OS that supports Plug & Play .

Redirection After BIOS POST Options are Disable (no redirection after BIOS POST), Boot Loader (redirection during POST and during boot loader) and Always (redirection always active).

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-13 IP Address Source Select the source of this machine's IP address. If Static is selected, you will need to know and enter manually the IP address of this machine below .

Mark All Events as Read Selecting this and pressing the Enter key marks all events as read in the event log.

If the computer cannot complete the boot process, diagnostic equipment can be attached to the computer to read I/O port 0080h.
