Chapter 1 Introduction 1-1 Overview The SuperServer 6015W-UR/6015W -U/6015W-NTR/6015W -NT is a high-end serv- er comprised of two main subsystems: the SC815TQ-R650U (6015W-UR/6015W - NTR)/SC815TQ-560U (6015W-U/6015W -NT) 1U server chassis and the X7DWU dual processor serverboard.

1-3 Chapter 1: Introduction include one COM port, a VGA (monitor) port, two USB 2.0 ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports and two gigabit Ethernet ports. A TI Graphics Controller The X7DWU features an integrated A TI video controller based on the ES1000 graph- ics chip.

If the system has already been mounted into a rack, you can skip ahead to Sections 2-5 and 2-6.
Chapter 2: Server Installation 2-5 Installing the Outer Rails Begin by measuring the distance from the front rail to the rear rail of the rack. Attach a short bracket to the front side of the right outer rail and a long bracket to the rear side of the right outer rail.

Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-15 Fan Headers The X7DWU has eight headers, des- ignated Fan1 through Fan8. F AN7 and F AN8 are for the CPU heatsinks. These 4-pin fan headers are for Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) fans and their speed is controlled via Thermal Management with a BIOS setting.
5-16 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual A TX PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Ports The A TX PS/2 keyboard and the PS/2 mouse ports are located beside the USB ports. See the table on the right for pin defi nitions. Power LED/Speaker On the JD1 header , pins 1-3 are for a power LED, pins 4-7 are for the speaker .
Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-17 W ake-On-Ring The W ake-On-Ring header is des- ignated JWOR. This function allows your computer to receive and "wake- up" by an incoming call to the modem when in suspend state. See the table on the right for pin defi nitions.
5-18 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual 5-9 Jumper Settings Explanation of Jumpers T o modify the operation of the serverboard, jumpers can be used to choose between optional settings. Jumpers create shorts between two pins to change the function of the connector .
Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-19 CMOS Clear JBT1 is used to clear CMOS and will also clear any passwords. Instead of pins, this jumper consists of contact pads to prevent accidentally clearing the contents of CMOS. T o Clear CMOS First power down the system and unplug the power cord(s).

W atch Dog is a system monitor that can reboot the system when a software application is “hung up”. Pins 1-2 will cause WD to reset the system if an application is hung up.
Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-21 5-10 Onboard Indicators LAN1/LAN2 LEDs The Ethernet ports (located beside the VGA port) have two LEDs. On each Gigabit LAN port, one LED indicates activity when blinking while the other LED may be green, amber or off to indicate the speed of the connection.

Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-1 Chapter 6 Advanced Chassis Setup This chapter covers the steps required to install components and perform mainte- nance on the SC815TQ-R650U/SC815TQ-560U chassis. For component installa- tion, follow the steps in the order given to eliminate the most common problems encountered.

Chassis: Front and Rear Views System Reset 6-2 Control Panel The control panel (located on the front of the chassis) must be connected to the JF1 connector on the serverboard to provide you with system status indications.
Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-3 6-3 System Fans Four 4-cm heavy duty counter-rotating fans provide the cooling for the SuperServer 6015W-UR/6015W -U/6015W-NTR/6015W -NT . Each fan unit is actually made up of two fans joined back-to-back, which rotate in opposite directions.

Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-5 Accessing the Drive Bays SA T A Drives: Because of their hotswap capability , you do not need to access the inside of the chassis or power down the system to install or replace SA T A drives. Proceed to the next section for instructions.

Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-7 Installing/Removing a SA T A Drive T o remove a carrier , push the release button located beside the drive LEDs. Swing the colored handle fully out and use it to pull the unit straight out (see Figure 6-5).
6-8 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual DVD-ROM and Floppy Drive Installation The top cover of the chassis must be opened to gain full access to the DVD-ROM and fl oppy drive bays. The 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT accomo- dates only slim-line DVD-ROM drives.
Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-9 connects to drive A, and the connector that does not have twisted wires always connects to drive B. 6-5 Power Supply 6015W -UR/6015W-NTR The SuperServer 6015W-UR/6015W -NTR has a 650 watt redundant power supply confi guration consisting of two hot-swap power modules.

Finish by plugging the AC power cord back into the module. 6015W -U/6015W-NT The SuperServer 6015W-U/6015W -NT has a single 560 watt power supply , which is auto-switching capable.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-1 Chapter 7 BIOS 7-1 Introduction This chapter describes the Phoenix BIOS™ Setup utility for the X7DWU. The Phoenix ROM BIOS is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-3 Main BIOS Setup Menu Main Setup Features System Time T o set the system date and time, key in the correct information in the appropriate fi elds. Then press the <Enter> key to save the data. System Date Using the arrow keys, highlight the month, day and year fi elds, and enter the correct data.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-5 Headers: This item indicates the number of headers. Sectors: This item displays the number of sectors. Maximum Capacity: This item displays the maximum storage capacity of the system. LBA Format T otal Sectors: This item displays the number of total sectors available in the LBA Format.
7-6 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual Parallel A T A This setting allows the user to enable or disable the function of Parallel A T A. The options are Enabled and Disabled. Serial A T A This setting allows the user to enable or disable the function of Serial A T A.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-7 7-4 Advanced Setup Choose Advanced from the Phoenix BIOS Setup Utility main menu with the arrow keys. Y ou should see the following display .
7-8 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual ACPI Mode Use the setting to determine if you want to employ ACPI (Advanced Confi guration and Power Interface) power management on your system.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-9 Memory Cache Cache System BIOS Area This setting allows you to designate a reserve area in the system memory to be used as a System BIOS buffer to allow the BIOS to write (cache) data into this reserved memory area. Select Write Protect to enable this function, and this area will be reserved for BIOS ROM access only .

Select Write Through to allow data to be cached into the buffer and written into the system memory at the same time. Select W rite Protect to prevent data from being written into the system memory area above 1MB.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-1 1 Option ROM Scan When enabled, this setting will initialize the device expansion ROM. The options are Enabled and Disabled. Enable Master This setting allows you to enable the selected device as the PCI bus master . The options are Enabled and Disabled.
7-12 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual Intel VT for Directed I/O Select Enabled to bring up the following Intel VT for Directed I/O (VT -d) confi guration submenu.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-13 Enhanced x8 Detection Select Enabled to enable Enhanced x8 DRAM UC Error Detection. The options are Disabled and Enabled . Demand Scrubbing Scrubbing is a process that allows the North Bridge to correct correctable memory errors found on an FBD memory module.
7-14 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual Snoop Filter Select Enabled to eliminate snoop traffi c to the graphics port to greatly improve system performance when running graphics intensive applications. The options are Enabled and Disabled.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-15 regulated via CPU Internal Clock modulation when the CPU temperature reaches the overheat threshold. C1/C2 Enhanced Mode (A vailable when supported by the CPU) Set to Enabled to enable Enhanced Halt State (C1) and Stop Clock State (C2) to lower CPU voltage/frequency to prevent overheat.
7-16 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual DCA Delay Clocks (A vailable if supported by the CPU) This feature allows the user to set the clock delay setting from snoop to prefetch for Direct Cache Access. Select a setting from 8 (bus cycles) to 120 (bus cycles) (in 8-cycle increment).
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-17 Base I/O Address This setting allows you to select the base I/O address for serial port A. The options are 3F8 , 2F8, 3E8 and 2E8. Interrupt This setting allows you to select the IRQ (interrupt request) for serial port A. The options are IRQ3 and IRQ4 .
7-18 S UPER S ERVER 6015W -UR/6015W-U/6015W -NTR/6015W-NT User's Manual Console Redirection Access the submenu to make changes to the following settings. COM Port Address This item allows you to specify which COM port to direct the remote console to: Onboard COM A or Onboard COM B.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-19 Fan Speed Control Modes This feature allows the user to decide how the system controls the speeds of the onboard fans. The CPU temperature and the fan speed are correlative. When the CPU on-die temperature increases, the fan speed will also increase, and vice versa.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-21 System Event Log/System Event Log (List Mode) These options display the System Event (SEL) Log and System Event (SEL) Log in List Mode.
