1 Intr oduction Congratulations on purchasing yo ur new Spectroniq Home Theater Syst em! Y our new home theater system of fers a wide range of features. In addition to playing video, it can play music and photo CDs so you can listen to music or browse photo alb ums using your television set.
2 Unpacking Y our New Home Theater System Before setting up your ne w home theater system, you should unpack the contents of the box and check to make sure everything is pr esent and undamaged. T o unpack the system: 1. Open the box. Remove the pl ayer and styrofoam pads.
3 Setting Up the System The following is the procedure for setting up y our home theater system, complete with 5.1 channel surround sound syste m. T o set up the system: 1. Set the player in its intended location. 2. Connect the five speakers to the five AUDIO OUTPUT terminals on the back of the subwoofer .
Setting Up the System 4 4. Place the spea kers as indicated be low . For th e best possible listening ex perience, all speakers (except the subwoofer) should be place d at the same distance from the listening position.
Setting Up the System 5 5. Set the 2.1CH/5.1CH swi tch on the back of the subwoofer to 5.1CH. 6. Plug the subwoofer in to a wall socket. 7. Plug the player into a wall socket. 8. Install two AAA batteries (included) in the remote. Ensure they are oriented as indicated in the battery compartment.
6 Connecting to Other Devices Before using your home theater sy stem for the first time, you will need t o connect it to a display . In addition, you may want to connect t he player to a separate audio system.
Connecting to Other Devices 7 Connecting to a Display Using S-Video S-Vide o provides better image quality than composite video, but lower image quality than component video. It is available on most displ ays. Note: The pins used in S-Vide o connectors are fragile.
Connecting to Other Devices 8 Connecting to an Audio System There are several differ ent outputs that can be used to connect to an external audio syste m: 5.1 channel analog, stereo analog, and digital. T o connect to an audi o sys tem usin g 5.1 chan nel analog audio: 1.
9 Operating the System T ur ning the System On and Off Once the player is connected to a powe r outlet, turn the player on and of f by pressing the power button on the player . When the power button on the player is on, you can also press the power button on the remote to turn the player on and off.
Operating the System 10 Bringing Up the On-Scr een Display The On-Sc reen Disp lay (OSD) gives in formati on a bout the current disc and playback. T o bring up the OSD, press the DISPLA Y button on the remote. Accessing the Setup Menu The Setup menu allows you to configure the opera tion of the player .
11 Using the Remote Contr ol The remote control can be used to control every aspect of the player ’ s operation and includes more functionality than the controls on the player itself. The following is a list of all buttons on the remote and their functions.
Using the Remote Control 12 When playing DVDs or Video CDs, turns off playback contro l to enable playback sequence programming using the PROGRAM button. In addition, when playback c ontrol is of f, the player will skip the root menu on a Video CD when the disc is inse rted and begin playba ck with the first track.
Using the Remote Control 13 Note: If a circle with a slash through it appe ars upon pressing a but ton on the remote, it means that the button you h ave pressed does not function in the current mode or f or the disc in the player . Adjusts the audio volume Stops playback.
Using the Remote Control 14 Replacing the Remote Batteries The remote requires two AAA batteri es, which are held in a small enclosure on the rear of the remote. T o replace the batteries: 1. Slide the cover off the bo ttom of the remote. 2. Remove the old batterie s and replace them with the new batteries.
15 Playing DVDs DVDs will play upon insertion. The player can perfo rm all standard DVD playback and search functions. The On-Screen Display The DVD OSD has five modes: • Press DISPLA Y once to show the current playback time. • Press DISPLA Y a second time to show the current title and chapter .
Playing DVDs 16 Repeating an Arbitrary Section Y ou can repeat an arbitrary section of video using the A-B button. T o repeat an arbitrary selection: 1. Press A- B to mark the beginning of the section to be repeated . 2. Press A- B again the mark the end o f the sectio n.
17 Playing V ideo CDs Video CDs can contain video or still images, such as photos. Y our portable DVD player will play all standard Vid eo CD formats. Upon insertion, the playe r will read and beg in to play the C D. If there is a menu on the CD, it will appear , allowing you to navigate through the tracks stored on the CD.
Playing Video CDs 18 Repeating an Arbitrary Section Y ou can repeat an arbitrary section of video using the A-B button. T o repeat an arbitrary selection: 1. Press A- B to mark the beginning of the section to be repeated . 2. Press A- B again the mark the end o f the sectio n.
19 Playing Audio CDs Audio CDs will play upon inserti on. All standard Audio CD navi gation features are av ailable. The On-Screen Display The Audio CD OSD displays a list of tracks on t he disc. Select a track and press ENTER to play it back. Press to acces s the options on the right of the screen.
Playing Audio CDs 20 3. Enter the desired location using the keypad on the remote. 4. Press ENTER to search to the specified location. T o exit the Search display without going t o a location, press SEARCH o nce more. Bookmarking Locations Y ou can save up to three locations on the CD and then jump to them later using the BOOK MARK button.
21 Playing Media on Data CDs Upon inserting an data CD, the player will begi n playing any MP3, MPEG, or JPEG files stored on the disc.. Contro lling Playback Press to stop playback. Press to pause playback, then again to resume playbac k. Press to return to the previous file.
Playing Media on Data CDs 22 Using Slideshow T ransition Effects T o change the transition effe ct used for JPEG sl ideshows, press ANGLE re peatedly to cycle through the options: • None •W i p e .
23 Configuring the Player The Setup menu allows you to configure the opera tion of the player . Y ou can change video, audio, and langu age settings, cont rol access to mature programming, and configure othe r general display behavior . T o use the Setup menu: 1.
Configurin g the Player 24 Vid e o The V ideo menu allow s you to change displa y pa rameters fo r the external displa y to which the player is con nected. TV T ype Selects the format used by the display: • 4:3 —For 4:3 format displays. • 16:9 —For 16:9 format displays.
Configuring th e Player 25 Audio This menu configures the player for your speaker se tup. Bass Management T urns bass management on and off for bet ter sounding bass. Front Spea kers When bass management is enabled, sets the size of the front speakers: Small or Large.
Configurin g the Player 26 Rating The Rating menu configu res access to mature content, allowing you to block mature content with a password. Parental Contr ol Selects the content rating above which a password w ill be required: •1 . K i d S a f e •2 .
