1 Intr oduction Congratulations on p urchasing your new Spec troniq Pr ogressive Scan DVD Player with HD Up-Conversion! Y our new high definition DVD play er of fers a wide range of features. In add ition to playing video, it can play mu sic and photo C Ds so you ca n listen to music or browse photo albums using your television set.
2 Unpacking Y our New DVD Player Before setting u p your new DVD player , you should unpack the contents of the box and check to make sure everything is pr esent and undamaged. T o unpack the system: 1. Open the box. 2. Remove the player and styrofoam pads.
3 Connecting to Other Devices Before using your DVD player fo r the first time, you will need to connect it to a display . In addition, you may want to connect the player to a separate aud io system. Connecting to a Display Using HDMI The HDMI ou tput on your D VD player provides the hig hest quality vid eo available.
Connecting to Other Devices 4 Connecting to a Display Using S-Video S-Vide o provides better image quality than composite video, but lower ima ge quality than component video. It is avai lable on most displays. Note: The pins used in S-Vide o connectors are fragile.

6 Operating the System T ur ning the System On and Off Once the player is connected to a powe r outlet, turn the player on and of f by pressing the pow er button on the player . When the power button on the player is on, you can also press the power button on the remote to turn the player on and off.
Operating the System 7 Bringing Up the On-Scr een Display The On-Screen Display (OSD) gives information about the curren t disc and playback. T o bring up the OSD, press the DISPLA Y button on the remote. Accessing the Setup Menu The Setup menu allows you to configure the opera tion of the player .
8 Using the Remote Contr ol The remote control can be used to control every aspect of the player ’ s operation and includes more functionality than the controls on the player itself. The following is a list of all buttons on the remote and their functions.
Using the Remote Control 9 Plays the chapters (DVDs) or tr acks (audio CDs and V ideo CDs) on a disc in random order . Selects the high quality video output used by the playe r: S-Video, Component, P-Scan, or HD (see “Video Out ” on page 21). Used to enter numbers.
Using the Remote Control 10 Note: If a circle with a slash through it, accompanied by a message, appears upon pressing a button on the remote, it means tha t the button you have press ed does not function in the current mode or for the disc in the player .
Using the Remote Control 11 Replacing the Remote Batteries The remote requires two AAA batteri es, which are held in a small enclosure on the rear of the remote. T o replace the batteries: 1. Slide the cover off the bo ttom of the remote. 2. Remove the old batterie s and replace them with the new batteries.
12 Playing DVDs DVDs will play upon insertion. The player can perfo rm all standard DVD playback and search functions. The On-Screen Display The DVD OSD (press DISPLA Y ) shows the current playback time , time remaining, current title and chapter , current audio and subtitle channel, current camera angle, and video bitrate.
Playing DVDs 13 The section will begin repeatin g and will continue until you press A-B again. Searching to a Specified Location Y ou can skip to a specified title and chapter or time using the SEARCH butt on. T o search to a chapter , title, or time: 1.
14 Playing V ideo CDs Video CDs can contain video or still images, such as photos. Y our portable DVD player will play all standard Vid eo CD formats. Upon insertion, the playe r will read and beg in to play the CD. If there is a menu on the CD, it will appear , allowing you to navigate through the tracks stored on the CD.
Playing Video CDs 15 Repeating an Arbitrary Section Y ou can repeat an arbitrary section of video using the A-B button. T o repeat an arbitrary selecti on: 1. Press A- B to mark the beginning of the section to be repeated. 2. Press A- B again the mark the end of the se ction.
16 Playing Audio CDs Audio CDs will play upon inserti on. All standard Audio CD navi gation features are available. The On-Screen Display The Audio CD OSD displays a list of tracks on t he disc. Select a track and press ENTER to play it back. Press to access the options on the right of the screen.

T o exit the Search display without going to a location, pres s SEARCH once more. Bookmarking Locations Y ou can save up to three locations on the CD and then jump to them later using the BO OKMARK button.
18 Playing Media on Data CDs Upon inserting an data CD, the player will begi n playing any MP3, WMA, MPEG, or JPEG files stored on t he disc.. Contro lling Playback Press to stop playback. Press to pause playback, then again to resume playback. Press to return to the previous file.

20 Configuring the Player The Setup menu allows you to configure the opera tion of the player . Y ou can change video, audio, and language settings, control a ccess to mature p rogramming, a nd configure other general display behavior . T o use the Setup menu: 1.
Configuring th e Player 21 Vid e o The V ideo menu allow s you to change displa y pa rameters fo r the external displa y to which the player is con nected. Aspect Ratio Selects the format used by the display: • 4:3PS —For 4:3 format displays: Crops wide format video to fit the 4:3 aspect ratio.
Configurin g the Player 22 HD Resolution When Video Out above is set to HD , this setting selects th e video format for the HDMI and progressive scan component video ou tputs: • Auto —Sets the output format based on the video being played back.
Configuring th e Player 23 Surr . Delay Delays the surround speaker audio by up to 5.1 meters, in increments of approximately 1 meter . Digital Output Sets the digital audio output format to RA W or PCM or turns the output off. Smart Sound Enables sound processing for differ ent types of audio: Off ( no processing), Classical, Rock, Jazz, or Pop.
