9 Getting Started Before oper ating the pager Congratulations on purchasing a Sony MP-7001 pager . These operating instructions explain how to use your new pager .
10 Looking at your pager Pager 1 Display 2 POWER/ESC button This button turns the pager on or returns you to the previous display . 3 Jog Dial navigator Scroll to the desir ed display , select an item, or program your options. Operating the J og Dial Press in : Selects the setting.

A message cannot be received when this icon is displayed. 2 Lock indicator Appears when a locked Personal Message is displayed on the screen.
12 6 Date/time/message number display Displays : • time or date while in standby . Press and hold POWER/ESC to display the date, instead of the time. • the message number while being read. • total number of memos stored. 7 AM/PM indicator Appears when the time is displayed in 12-hour mode.
13 Getting Started Inserting the battery Insert the supplied size AA alkaline battery . 1 Slide the battery lock up 1 . Slide the battery cover until the “•” mark on the cover aligns with the “•” mark on the pager body 2 , then remove it. 2 Insert the battery “–” (contact) side first.
14 T urning the power on Press POWER/ESC for mor e than two seconds. The pager sounds or vibrates, and the display appears as follows. The banner appears. Y ou can change the banner . Approximate battery level appears : Full Medium Low b b The standby display appears.
15 Getting Started Setting the time and date 1 While in the standby display , press the Jog Dial in to go to the MAIN MENU. 2 T urn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 3 T urn the Jog Dial, select SET TIME & DA TE, then press in. 4 T urn the Jog Dial, select 12-hour mode or 24-hour mode, then press in.

20 Reading a message T o read a received message. 1 Press in the Jog Dial while in standby mode. 2 T urn the Jog Dial, select PERSONAL INBOX or INFORMA TION INBOXES (the title of INBOXES appears), then press in. Y ou can change the title of the INFORMA TION INBOX.
Receiving Messages 21 3 T urn the Jog Dial, select the desir ed message, then press in. The message appears with the text wrapped. If there was an err or in receiving a message, “–––” appears on the display . If part of the message could not be received, “< ⋅⋅⋅ ∼ ⋅⋅⋅ >” appears.
22 Can I have your phone number? --PERSONAL 7/ 4/99 5:10 AM Reading the next message Y ou can skip to the next message while a message is displayed. 1 While the message is displayed, press in the Jog Dial. 2 Press the Jog Dial again to select NEXT.
Receiving Messages 23 Please call me NEXT LOCK FOLDER DELETE DELETE ALL Locking and unlocking a message Y ou can lock up to 20 Personal Messages to prevent erasing accidentally . Note that you cannot lock Information Service Messages. 1 Open the message you want to lock, then press the Jog Dial in.
24 Please call me NEXT LOCK FOLDER DELETE DELETE ALL Deleting messages Y ou can delete Personal Messages and Information Service Messages. The pager has two types of deleting : either deleting one message or deleting all messages at once. Deleting one message 1 Open the message to be deleted, then press the Jog Dial in.

26 Please call me NEXT LOCK FOLDER DELETE DELETE ALL Moving a message to a folder Y ou can move messages into one of the four folders, which you can name at your convenience. (Refer to page 40.) 1 Open the message to be moved, then press in the Jog Dial.

33 Memo Function Editing a memo 1 Open the memo to be edited, then press in the Jog Dial. 2 Press the Jog Dial in to select EDIT . 3 Edit the memo. Refer to page 30 for details on character entry. 4 When you have finished editing, turn the Jog Dial to select , then press in.
34 ALERT AUDIBLE / VIBRATION Setting alert notification Y ou can select an alert of either sound (alert and melody) or vibration for all new messages. The same alert will be used for all new messages. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in.

37 Settings ALARM CLOCK PERSONAL INFORMATION Selecting an audible alert type The alarm clock, Personal Messages, and Information Service Messages can each have a differ ent alert. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in.
38 DO NOT DISTURB ON / OFF START END 12:00AM - 12:00AM Setting the “Do Not Disturb” time While in the “Do Not Disturb” time, your pager will receive messages without activating the sound (alert and melody) or vibration during the set time frame.
39 Settings Changing the banner Y ou can change the banner that appears after the power is turned on and before the standby screen appears. The message can include up to two lines, 40 characters total. 1 While in the MAIN MENU, turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in.

42 Adjusting the contrast The contrast of the display can be adjusted. 1 While in the MAIN MENU display , turn the Jog Dial, select FUNCTION MENU, then press in. 2 T urn the Jog Dial, select CONTRAST , then press in. 3 T urn the Jog Dial to adjust the contrast of the display and press in.
