FEATURES Your new receiver is a versatile audio/ video co ntrol center. The re ceiver is designed to sound sensational and be an attractive, easy-to-use addition to y our audio/vid eo system. Although yo u already have a good ide a of your receiver’s features, we would like to take a moment to point out ce rtain highlights.
THE BASICS The following is intended to familiarize users with common term s and applications of Home Theater equipment. Sources - your receiver can p rovide audio from its built-in AM/FM tuner. It can also provide limited video from its on-screen menu system.
Stereo - Stereo contains two di screte, front left and right full range au dio channels. Thi s is the most common format for music and i s also used on many movies.
DTS NEO:6 – DTS Neo:6 is an advances m atrix decoder. It will take any two-channel source and expand it into five or six channels, depending on the user’s speaker lay out. Two-channel sources inclu de VHS tapes, broadcast television, stereo CDs and DVDs.
THX Surround EX ™ - Dolby Digital Surround EX is a joint development of Dolby Laboratories and the THX division of Lucasfilm Ltd. In a movie theater, film soundtra cks that have been encode d with Dolby Digital Surroun d EX technology are a ble to reproduce an extra channel, which has been ad ded during the mixing of the p rogram.

Optical and Coax Digital outputs - Zone 1 (A) optical and 1/8” mini-p lug coax output to carry digital information from the selected digital input of the recei v er out to digital recorders, personal com puters, etc.
MAKING THE CONNECTION It’s tempting to just plug in your new A/V receiver an d have gre at sound pour out. Before you do that, take a few minutes to plan out how you wa nt the receiver to fit in to your audio/video system. Ask yourself the foll owing questions: y What source components do I want to c onnect to my receiver ? (CD, VCR, etc.
AUDIO / VIDEO CONNECTIONS Connecting your analog sources to y our receiver Audio / Video source - conne cting a DVD/VLD play er to the receiver’s analo g inputs. Use the same instructions for connecting to other audio / video sources such as a satellite receiver, cable box, etc.
DVD Audio 5.1 input - (Optional contact B&K customer ser vice for details) The AVR 212 allows its COAX DIGITAL RCA connections to be re-configured for u se as a 5.1 audio i nput. Once the unit is re-configured for us e with a 5.1 audio input, the coax digital inputs are no longer available.
DIGITAL CONNECTIONS Connect digital inputs (DVD, VLD, etc.) to the re ceiver. You will need either coax ial or optical digital inputs to play Dolby Digital (AC-3) or DTS surround sou nd processing. Digital connection s are also re commended for P CM sources.
SURROUND OUTPUTS Your receiver has multiple surround processor outputs for use with external amplifier(s) or po wered speakers. The AVR 315 receiver allows THX Surround EX compatibil it y via two Surround Back ‘S BACK’ processor outputs.

ANTENNA CONNECTIONS The FM jack is a stan dard screw on F-type connector. The AM is a push type. Strip ¼ inch of insulation off your AM antenna wires and insert one wire end into each hole whil e holding the tabs down. Release the tabs to lock in the AM antenna wires.
FREQUENTLY AS KED QUESTIONS My collection of equipment differs fr om the labels on the back of my recei ver, how can I hook them up? Your receiver provides 5 identical sets of inputs - V1, V2, DVD, CD, and SAT. Each of these has analo g audio, composite video, S-video, coaxial digital audio, and optical digital a udio.
My laser disc player (or other digital source) has only op tical output, but my CD recorder (or other digital recorder) has only coaxial input. Do I need some sort o f converter to make direct digital recordings? No, your receiver will conv ert optical to coaxial and coaxial to opti c al.
SETUP For best results, perform t he following set up procedure when you initially install your recei ver and anytime you change or add sources, sp eakers, etc. or when you rearrange your listening area THE MENU SYSTEM Setup of your receiver will require you to navigate through the me nu system .
