7 Playing a CD Playing an 8-cm (3-inch) CD (for the customers having purchased JE.W , HK2, CN2 and E13 models) Y ou cannot play an 8-cm CD on this CD player without using an adaptor . Make sure to attach an 8-cm CD adaptor to the CD before inserting it into the player .

9 About the display • When you press u after changing the CD or turning of f and on the player, the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • During play , the tr ack number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
10 Playback options Y ou can enjoy v arious ways of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode.
11 Playback options Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuf fle and PGM play modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Note on . / > During Repeat play , you can locate the first track after the last track b y pr essing > repeatedly .
12 Playing tracks in your favorite or der (PGM play) Y ou can program the CD player to play up to 64 tracks in your fa vorite order . 1 During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “PGM” appears. 2 Press . or > to select a track. 3 Press REPEA T/ENTER to enter the selected track.
13 Available featur es G-PROTECTION function The G-PR OTECTION function has been dev eloped to pr o vide excellent protection against sound skipping while jogging. This function provides a higher le vel of shock protection than the traditional one. While jogging, be sure to hold your CD player with the i /REMO TE jack facing upward.
14 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “MB (Mega Bass)” or “MB .” “MB ” enhances the bass sound more than “MB ”. Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
15 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps down the maximum volume to protect your hearing. Set A VLS to “LIMIT .
16 Connecting a ster eo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape and a MiniDisc. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.
17 Using your CD player in a car Y ou can use your CD player in a car by connecting it to the car cassette deck. Y ou cannot use the car mount plate for this CD player . When you use your CD player in a car , install it securely in a location that does not interfere with your driving.
18 Y ou can use the follo wing power sources: • Rechar geable batteries • A C power adaptor (see “Playing a CD”) • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries (battery case) For the battery life and char ging time of the rechargeable batteries, see “Specifications.
19 T o remove the rechargeable batteries Remove the batteries as illustrated belo w . When to charge the rechargeable batteries When the batteries become weak, “Lo batt” appears in the display with the beep sound. T o keep the original battery capacity for a long time, charge the batteries only when they are completely depleted.

21 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and have it checked by qualif ied personnel before operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (external po wer input) jack.
22 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press the VOLUME + button repeatedly . No sound, or noise is heard. The playing time is too short when powered with the dry batteries.
23 Symptom Cannot adjust the volume with the VOLUME +/– buttons on the CD player . During recording with optical digital connection, the track number cannot be recorded correctly .
