13 Sec tion 2 | Understanding Wireless C onnections The EZ Co nnect Wireless Ethernet A dapter is based on the IEEE 802.11b Wi-Fi standard , which uses radio transmission for net- wo rk connectivit y . These 802.11b radio wav es travel in all direc- tions, and can transmit through walls and floors.
14 2.2 | Adjusting the Antenna Th e antenna on the SMC2670W can be adjusted for best radio rece ption. Star t with the antenna pointing straight up, and adjust the antenna if wireless reception is poor . Certain areas, such as directly below the antenna, get relatively poor re ception.
15 2.4 | Understanding Wireless Security ( WEP) Anyone within range of y our wireless network is a potential security risk. Without wireless security options configured on your net work , a person outside of your physical location, but within your wireless range may be able to access the netw ork and any data that is being transmitted ov er it.

22 4.2 | Using the W eb-based Utility 1. Launch your web browser . (i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape) 2. In the Address Bar , type in the IP address that is configured on your Wireless Ethernet Adapter . (Default IP address is: 192.168.2.25) 3. Log into the W eb-based Utility .
23 Section 5 | Configure The EZ Co nnect Wireless Ethernet A dapter functions as a trans- parent device on your network b y not requiring an IP address that is within the same subnet as your network. The steps out- lined below will guide you through the wireless settings and T CP/IP configuration.

27 Sec tion 6 | Security Wired Equivalent P rivacy ( WEP) is used to protect your data as it is transmitted over the wireless connection. The EZ Connect Wireless Ethernet Adapter supports two levels of encryption, 64-bit and 128-bit, and both HEX and ASCII formats.
