Optional Reception Settings 56 Reception Ratio The machine has been set at the factor y to automa tically redu ce the size of received documents to fit the size of the printing paper. This ensures that data on the edges of the document are not cut off.
Substitute Reception to Memor y 57 3. Receiving Fa xe s Substitute Reception to Memory In situations where pr inting is not possible , such as when the machine r uns out of paper , the print car tr idge ne eds replacement, or the paper jams, incoming fax es will be re ceived to memory .
58 4. Making Copies Y our fax machine can also be used to make copies. Single and multiple copies (up to 99 per original ) can be made, enabling the machine to doub le as a conv enience office copier. 1 Load the document(s) face down. (Maximum of 10 letter sheets or 5 legal sheets.

If you pref er a higher quality image at a slower printing speed, tur n on this setting. If you pref e r a f aster pri nting speed ov er image quality , tur n off the setting.
61 5. Special Functions 5. Special Functions Caller ID (Requires Subscription to Service) If you subscribe to a caller identification ser vice from your telephone company , you can ha ve the f ax machine display the name and number of the caller when you receiv e a call.

Maintenance Cleaning the Machine Cleaning the scanning glass and r ollers Clean the scanning glass and rollers freque ntly to ensure the quality of transmitted images and copies. 1 Open the operation panel. 2 Push the green lever at the side of the white roller slightly to the right, and then pull it forward and down.
Maintenance 75 7. Maintenance 4 Wipe the scanning glass (exposed by removing the white r oller) and roller s with a clean c loth. • Make sure that all dirt and stains (such as correcting fluid) are removed. Dirt and stains will cause ver tical lines on transmitted images and copies.
Maintenance 76 7 Close the oper ation panel, pressing down firmly to make sure it clicks into place. Cleaning the housing Wipe the external par ts and surface of the machine with a dr y cloth. Caution! Do not use benzene or thinner . These solvents ma y damage or discolo r the machine.

Maintenance 79 7. Maintenance 5 Compare the diagonal line abo ve the printed bars to the diagonal line below th e printed bars. • Look for a break in the diagonal line abov e the bars. A break indicates clogged nozzles. 6 If the bottom diagonal line still h as breaks, repeat Steps 1 through 4 to run the nozzle test again.
Maintenance 80 Wiping the print nozzles and contacts If you ha ve cleaned the print nozzles as explained in the previous section at least three times and print quali ty is still not satisfactory , try wiping the pr int nozzles and contacts.
Maintenance 81 7. Maintenance Cleaning the cartridg e holder A dir ty pri nt car tr idge holder may cause smudges on y our pr inted pages. T o clean the pr int car tr idge holder, press , open the operation panel, op en the print compar tment cov er , and remov e the print car tr idge (see the procedure beginning on page 16).
