Connectio ns 12 Connecting t he power cord Plug the power cord i nto a 120 V , 60 Hz, grounde d AC (3-prong ) outlet . Caution! Do not plug the power cord in to any other kind of outlet . This will damage the m achine and is not covere d under the warra nty .
Connecti ons 13 1. Installation Connecting the tel ephone li ne cor d Insert one end of the line cord into the jac k on the back of t he machine marked TEL. LINE . Insert the other end into a standard (RJ1 1C) single- line wall telepho ne jack. Note : The fax machi ne is set for t one diali ng.

Loading th e Imagi ng Film 16 Loading the Imaging Film Y our fax use s a roll of imagi ng film to cre ate print ed text and imag es. The p rint h ead in the fa x app lies he at to t he im aging f ilm to trans fer ink to the pa per . Fo llow the s teps b elow to load or rep lace the fi lm.

DO NOT DISCARD THE FOUR GREEN GEARS! 3 Rem ove t he imag ing fi lm ca rtri dge from t he print compartment (grasp th e hand le at the fr ont of the ca rtri dge) and tu rn it over .

Sending Documents Err or Correct ion Mode The fax m achine i s set to automa ticall y correct any di stortions in a transmis sion due t o noise on the te lephone line bef ore print ing at the receivi ng end. This funct ion is ca lled Error Corre ction Mo de (ECM).

Substitute Reception to Memory In situ ations whe re print ing is not possible , such as when your fax runs out of paper , the imag ing film n eeds replacement, or the paper jams, inc oming faxes w ill be receive d to memory .

Making Tel ephone Cal ls 87 6. Making Phone Calls Hold Y ou can put the other part y on hold dur ing a conversat ion by pressing the HOLD/SEARCH key . When this is done, t hey cannot hear you. Y ou can put the handset bac k in the cr adle without br eaking the connecti on.
