2 ACCESSING THE WEB SERVER IN THE MACHINE When the machine is connected to a network, the machine's built-i n Web server can be accessed fr om a Web browser on your compu ter. General inf ormation General inf ormation 7 This section provides general inf ormation about th e machine, including t he names and function s of the parts of t he machine and its pe ripheral devices, and the procedure s for placing original s and loading paper.
8 PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS (1) Offset tray Offset and stapled o utput are delivered to thi s tray. (2) Top tray Printed output is delivered to this tray. (3) Finisher* This can be used to staple outp ut. When an optional punch unit is installed, holes can be punched in output.
9 (14) Operation panel (15) Main power switch This is used to power on the machine. When using the fax or Internet fax functions, keep this switch in the "on" position. (16) Front cover Open to power on the machine. (17) Large capacity trays (MX-LCX5)* These hold paper.

12 USING THE TOUCH PANEL The touch keys that appe ar in the touch panel ar e grouped for easy ope ration. The layout and f unctions of t he touch keys are exp lained below. Using general keys (1) When the displayed screen is one of two or mor e screens, use the keys to switch through the scree ns.
13 HOW TO LOG IN TO THE MACHINE (USER AUTHENTICATION) User authenticatio n is used to restrict the use of the machine to users who have been re gistered in the machine . When user authenti cation has been enabled by the admini strator of the ma chine, users must log in bef ore using the machine.
14 HOME SCREEN When the [HOME] key is pressed on th e operation pane l, the home screen appea rs in the touch panel. Shortcuts to fu nctions can be registered as keys in the h ome screen. Wh en a shortcut key is touched, the screen for that functi on appears.
15 PLACING ORIGINALS The automatic document feeder can be used to au tomatica lly scan many origin als at once. This saves you the trouble of m anually feeding each original. For originals that cannot be scanned using the auto matic document feed er, such as a book or a docu ment with notes attached, use t he document glass.
16 CHANGING PAPER IN A TRAY Names of the trays The names of the trays a re shown below. For the number of sh eets of paper that can be loaded in each tray, see th e following manuals: • User's .
17 Loading paper in a tray To change the pap er in a tray, load t he desired paper in the tray and then ch ange the tray set tings in the machine to specify the loaded pa per.
18 Changing the tray settings When you change the pape r in a tray, the tray set tings in the system settings must also be changed. 1 Press the [SYSTEM SETTINGS] key. 2 Configure the tray setti ngs in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [Paper Tray Settings] key.
19 Loading paper in other trays Tray 1 and Tray 2 To change the paper size of tray 1 and tray 2, se e "TRAY SETTINGS FOR TRAY 1 AND TRAY 2" in the User's Guide. Tr a y 1 Raise the paper guide. Insert the paper with the print side face down.
20 Bypass tray (MX-MFX1) Place paper that is A5 (7-1/4" x 10-1/2") or smaller in the horizontal orientation. The maximum n umber of plain paper sheets that can be loaded in the bypass tra y is about 100. When loading A3W , A3, B4 siz e paper , pull out the tray e xtension.
21 Large capacity tray MX-LCX6 The paper size of tray 5 can only b e changed by a service techni cian. Gently pull out the paper tra y . Gently push the tra y into the machine . Insert the paper with the print side face up. Fan the paper well bef ore inser ting it.
22 MX-LCX3N To change th e paper size of tray 5, see "TR AY SETTINGS FOR THE LARGE CAPACITY TRAY (MX-LCX3N)" in the U ser's Guide. P aper table Insert the paper with the print side face up. When a certain amount of paper is placed on the paper table, the paper table will automatically descend slightl y and then stop.
23 Large capacity trays MX-LCX4 To change the paper size of tray 5 and tray 6, see "TRAY SETTINGS FOR THE LARGE CAPACITY TRAYS (MX-LCX4)" in the User's Guide. T he paper size of tray 7 can only be chang ed by a service technician. Insert the paper with the print side face up.

25 FINISHING Depending on the op tions that have been installed, you can staple or punch holes in copy, print, and man ual finishing output. 26 Staple sort function Pamphlet staple function Punch function Folding function This function s orts output into se ts and staples each set. This function staples each set of output in two places along the centre line and folds the output to create a pa mphlet.

28 BASE SCREEN OF COPY MODE Touch the [COPY] key in the touch pa nel to open the base screen of copy mode. Select copy settings in th e base screen. (1) [Exposure] key This shows the curre nt copy exposure and exposure mode settings. Touch this key to change the exposure or exposure mod e setting.
29 MAKING COPIES This is the most basic procedur e for making copies. 1 Touch the [COPY] key. The base screen of copy mode appea rs. 2 Place the originals. 30 2-SIDED COPYING (Automatic Document Feeder) You can use the automat ic document feeder to make au tomatic 2-sided copies witho ut the bother of manually tur ning the or iginals over and re-insert ing them. This section explains how to copy 1-sided origin als onto both sides of the paper.
31 COPYING ON SPECIAL PAPER (Bypass Copy) Use the bypass tray to copy on special media such as hea vy paper, envelopes, and t ab paper. 33 SELECTING THE EXPOSURE AND IMAGE TYPE You can specify the original image type to obtain a clearer copy. The example of copying an original with light colours such as pencil writing is explained below. 1 Place the originals. 34 FITTING THE COPY IMAGE TO THE PAPER (Automatic Ratio Selection) You can co py an original onto a ny size of paper using automatic enlargement/ reduction. This section explains how to copy an A4 origina l onto A3 paper. 1 Place the originals. When using the document glass, pl ace the original with the side to be scan ned face d own.

36 ENLARGEMENT/REDUCTION (Preset Ratios / Zoom) For precise adj ustment of the copy size, you can select a preset ratio and/or adjust the ratio in increments of 1%. As an example, this section expla ins how to reduce the image to 55%. 1 Place the originals.

38 CHECKING COPIES BEFORE PRINTING (Proof Copy) Regardless of the numbe r of copies specified, this fu nction initially prints only the first set . After you have checked the f irst set, the remaining sets ar e printed. 1 Place the originals. When using the document glass, pl ace the original with the side to be scan ned face d own.
39 5 Change the settings. (1) Touch the [Change] key. If there ar e no problems in the proof c opy, go to step 7. (2) Touch the appropri ate keys to change the settings. (3) Touch the [OK] key. 6 Press the [PROOF COPY] key. One set of copies will be prin ted using the settings you changed in step 5.
40 FINISHING You can touch the [Outpu t] key to select output functions such as the sort funct ion, group funct ion, and offse t function, and to select the output t ray. All settings that can be selected when the finis her, punch unit, sadd le unit, and folding unit are inst alled are explained.
41 INTERRUPTING A COPY RUN (Interrupt Copy) When the machine is printi ng, you can tempor arily interrupt the job and perform a copy job tha t you wish to prioritize. This feature is usef ul when you need to make an urgent co py during a long copy run.
42 STORING COPY OPERATIONS (Job Programs) You can store a grou p of copy settings. The settings can be retrieved and use d whenever needed . When you frequently u se the same group o f settings, this saves you t he trouble of ma nually selecting t he settings each time you need t o use them.
43 Deleting a job program 2 Touch the key of the de sired job program. After selecting the job prog ram, set the number of copies and press the [START] key to begin copying. 1 Press the [#/P] key ( ). 2 Select settings in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [Store/Delete] tab.
44 SPECIAL MODES The special modes can be used for a variety of special-purpose copy jobs. This section introduces the types of copies that can be made with the spe c ial modes. (T he procedures for using each special mode are no t explained.) Each special mode has its own settings and steps, however, the basic procedu re is the same for all modes.

Printing Printing 53 This section explains the basic procedure for printing using the print er driver of the machine. The settings that can be sele cted in the print er driver are also introduce d. 54 PRINTING This section explains the basic pr ocedures for printing. The following example explains how to print an A4 size document from WordPad, which is a standard acc essory program in Windows. To install the printer driver and configure settings in a Windows en vironment, see "2.

Ima g e Sending Ima g e Sending 67 This section explains the uses of the im age send funct ion and the basic procedure. In addit ion, special modes that can be used with the image send function are intr oduced. To use the image send function, sever al expansion kits are necessary.
68 IMAGE SEND FUNCTION The image send functio n of the machine can be used to transmit sca nned images by a varie ty of methods. The image send function ha s the following modes. * A USB memo ry device is a storag e device that is connected via a USB inter face.
69 BASE SCREEN OF IMAGE SEND MODE Touch the [IMAGE SEND] key in the touch pa nel to open the base scree n of image send mode. Various settings fo r image send can be select ed from the base screen . Each mode has a base screen. To select a mode, touch the send mode select tab for that mode.
70 SCANNING AN ORIGINAL The basic operation for sca nning is explained below. This section explains how to send a scanned f ile by e-mail. When the colour exp ansion kit is in sta lled, originals can be scan ned in full colour or greyscale. 1 Select settings in the touch panel.
71 SENDING A FAX The basic procedure for sending faxes is e xplained below. In fax mode, colour or iginals are sent as black and white imag es. 1 Select settings in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [IMAGE SEND] key. (2) Touch the [Fax] tab. The base screen of fax mode appears.
72 CONVENIENT TRANSMISSION METHODS One-touch sending , resending, and othe r convenient tran smission functions that make it easy to send an image are available. One-touch key A destination sto red in a one-touch key can be retrieved by a simple touch of the ke y.
73 Resending The [Resend] key can be t ouched to send an imag e to one of the most recent 8 transmission desti nations. Resending is not possible in some cases, such as when an image is sent using a o ne-touch key for a grou p.
74 STORING A DESTINATION Destinations for Scan to E-mail, Intern et fax, and fa x can be stored in one -touch keys. Stored destinat ions can be retrieved quickly and easily. To store destinations fo r other modes, see "STORING DESTIN ATION ADDRESSES FOR EACH SCAN MODE IN THE ADDRESS BOOK" in the Image Send Guide.

78 CHANGING THE RESOLUTION You can select the resolutio n as appropriate for t he original type. Sending an image in scan mode This section explains how to set t he resolution to "300 X300dpi", wh ich creates a clea rer image than the default resolution.

Document filing Document filing 85 The document filing function is used to store the document or print image on the hard drive when pe rforming a copy, print, or other jo b. A stored file can be cal led up and used whenever needed. This section introduces several of th e document filing functi ons.
86 DOCUMENT FILING The document filing function a llows you to save the document image of a copy or image send jo b, or the data of a print job, as a file on the ma chine's hard drive . The stored file can be re trieved and printed or t ransmitted as needed.
