Installation Connecting t he Handset Connect t he handset as shown and pla ce it on t he handset rest. ♦ The ends of the handset cord are identica l, so they will go into eithe r ja ck. Connecti ons 13 1. Installation Connecting t he telephone line cor d Insert one end of the line cord into the jack on the back of the machine marked TEL. LINE . Insert the other end into a standard (RJ 1 1C) single- line wall telepho ne jack. Note : The fax machi ne is set for t one diali ng.

Loading th e Imagi ng Film 16 Loading th e Imaging Film Y our f ax uses a roll of imagi ng fil m to create print ed text a nd imag es. The prin t h ead in th e fax a ppl ies hea t to the im agi ng f ilm to tr ans fer ink to t he paper . Follow the steps below to l oad or repl a ce the f ilm.
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 17 1. Installation 4 Remove the us ed film fr om the cartri dge. 5 Remove the four green gears from the used film. DO NOT DISCARD THE FOUR GREEN GEARS! 3 Remove the i maging fil m cartr idge from the print compartment (gras p the handle at the front of t he cartr idge) and turn i t over .
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 18 7 Insert the lar ge gear into the green end of the empty spool. Make sure the two protrus ions on the large gear fit firmly into th e slots in t he end of t he spool. Insert the remaining three gea rs into the spools, making sure the protrusion on each gear fits firmly into one of the slots i n the end o f each spoo l.
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 19 1. Installation 10 T urn the cart ridge ove r , grasp t he handle, a nd insert the cart ridge into the pri nt compar tment.
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 20 11 Rotate the large gear toward you until the film is t aut. 12 Close the print co m partment co ver (press down on both sides to make sure it clic ks into plac e), and then close t he oper ation pane l. 13 Load paper in the paper tr ay and then press t he followi ng keys to initi alize the film.

This fu nction is called Error Cor rection Mode (ECM).

Making Tel ephon e Calls 87 6. Making Phone Calls Hold Y ou ca n put the other pa rty on hold dur ing a c onversat ion by pres sing the HOLD/SEARCH key . When this is done, they cannot hear you. Y ou can put t he handset back in th e cradle w ithout br eaking the connecti on.
88 7. Ans wering Ma c hine Hookup Connectin g an Answering Machine If desi red, you ca n connect a n answerin g machine to your f ax machine' s TEL. SET jack . This will allow you t o receiv e both voic e messages and faxes when yo u are out. 1 Remove the s eal cover ing the TEL.
