14 R Section 4 Hourmeter (Figure 4-1). 6. Indicates the number of hours the engine has been operated. It only operates when the engine is running. Has preset maintenance reminders f or engine and h ydraulic system oil changes. Will star t flashing scheduled maintenance 2 hours bef ore preset time and continue flashing until 2 hours after .
15 R Section 4 INITIAL RUN-IN PR OCEDURES 4.3 FIRST D A Y OF USE OR APPRO XIMA TEL Y 20 HOURS Check all belts f or proper alignment and w ear at 2, 4 1. and 8 hours. Change the engine oil and oil filter after the first 20 2. hours of operation. (See Section 7.
16 R Section 4 - IMPORT ANT - Do not tra v el forw ard over a curb . The mow er will hang up on the curb. Raise the dec k and trav el backw ards o ver the curb at a 45 degree angle. (See Section 4.1, items 13 - 15, on page 14 for cutter deck r aising descriptions.
17 R Section 4 HILLSIDE OPERA TION 4.7 W ARNING DO NO T operate on steep slopes. T o c heck a slope, attempt to bac k up it (with the cutter dec k down). If the machine can bac k up the slope without the wheels slipping, reduce speed and use extreme caution.
18 R Section 4 MO VING MO WER WITH ENGINE 4.11 ST OPPED T o “free-wheel” or mov e the mower around without the engine running, rotate the dump v alve lev ers counter- clockwise . See Figure 4-4. Disengage the parking brake and mo ve the mo we r b y hand.

24 R Section 6 P ARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT 6.1 W ARNING Do not operate the mower if the parking brake is not operable . Possib le severe injury could result. The parking brak e linkage should be adjusted whenev er the parking brake lev er is placed in the “ENGAGE ” position and the parking brak e will allo w the mo wer to mov e.
25 R Section 6 TRA VEL ADJUSTMENTS 6.2 Neutral or trac king adjustments will need to be made if: A. Th e ste eri ng con tro l le v er s are in the neu tr al posi ti on and the machine creeps forw ard or backward. See Neutral Adjustment on page 25 (ne xt procedure).

27 R Section 6 BEL T ALIGNMENT 6.5 Belt alignment is impor tant for proper performance of your Scag mower . If you experience frequent belt wear or breakage, see your authorized Scag ser vice center for belt adjustment. CUTTER DECK ADJUSTMENTS 6.6 Cutter dec k le v el, pitch and height are set at the f actor y .
28 R Section 6 - NO TE - T o pre vent the cutter deck from teetering, all four (4) cutter deck hanging chains must hav e tension on them. If all f our chains do not ha ve tension on them and the dec k teeters, y ou must readjust the cutter deck as outlined in the procedures abo ve .
29 R Section 6 C . 4-3/ 4" or 5-1/4" P osition - (See Figure 6-9). Placing the baffle in either the 4-3/4" or 5-1/4" setting will enhance f all cutting (leaf pickup) and reduce cutter deck "b low out". T o adjust the Custom-Cut Baffle height: Place the cutter deck in the tr anspor t position.
30 R Section 6 ELECTRIC CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT 6.8 The electr ic clutch ser v es tw o functions in the operation of the mo wer . In addition to star ting and stopping the power flow to the cutter b lades, the clutch also acts as a br ake to assist in stopping blade rotation when the PT O is switched off or the operator presence circuit is interrupted.

37 R Section 7 - NO TE - In extremely dusty conditions it ma y be necessary to chec k the element once or twice daily to pre ve nt engine damage. Unhook the clamps securing the air cleaner cover to 1. the air filter canister . Remov e the air cleaner cov er and set aside.

Allow the cutter deck g earbo x to cool before servicing. The fluid lev el in the cutter deck gearbo x should be check ed after ev er y 100 hours of operation or bi-weekly , whiche ver occurs first.
