15 R Section 4 - NO TE - Smooth operation of the steer ing le vers will produce smooth mow er oper ation. While lear ning the operation of the steer ing controls, keep the tra v el speed low . - IMPORT ANT - Do not tra vel f orward ov er a curb . The mow er will hang up on the curb .
16 R Section 4 HILLSIDE OPERA TION 4.7 W ARNING DO NO T operate on steep slopes. T o chec k a slope , attempt to bac k up it (with the cutter deck down). If the machine can back up the slope without the wheels slipping, reduce speed and use extreme caution.
17 R Section 4 MO VING MO WER WITH ENGINE 4.11 ST OPPED T o “free-wheel” or mov e the mower around without the engine running, rotate the dump v alve lev ers counter- clockwise . See Figure 4-4. Disengage the par king brak e and mov e the mower b y ha nd.

23 R Section 6 P ARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT 6.1 W ARNING Do not operate the mower if the parking brake is not operable. P ossible severe injury could result. The parking brak e linkage should be adjusted whene ver the parking brak e lev er is placed in the “ENGA GE” position and the parking brak e will allow the mow er to mo ve.
24 R Section 6 TRA VEL ADJUSTMENTS 6.2 Neutral or trac king adjustments will need to be made if: A . The steer ing control le vers are in the neutral position and the machine creeps f orward or backward.
25 R Section 6 Actuate the steering control lev ers forw ard and 6. re v erse se veral times and return them to the neutral position. Check that the driv e wheels remained in neutral and 7. readjust if necessar y . Check that the steering control le vers hit the stop 8.
26 R Section 6 BEL T ALIGNMENT 6.5 Belt alignment is impor tant for proper performance of your Scag mower . If y ou e xperience frequent belt wear or breakage, see your authorized Scag ser vice center for belt adjustment. CUTTER DECK ADJUSTMENTS 6.6 Cutter dec k lev el, pitch and height are set at the factory .
27 R Section 6 - NO TE - T o pre v ent the cutter dec k from teetering, all four (4) cutter deck hanging chains m ust ha ve tension on them. If all four chains do not hav e tension on them and the dec k teeters, y ou must readjust the cutter deck as outlined in the procedures abo ve.
28 R Section 6 CUST OM-CUT BAFFLE ADJUSTMENT The Custom-Cut Baffle is designed to deliver optimum airflow and super ior cutting performance in any type of grass . The Custom-Cut Baffle can be raised or lowered to precisely tailor the deck's performance for the type of grass being cut.
29 R Section 6 ELECTRIC CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT 6.7 The electric clutch ser ves two functions in the operation of the mo wer . In addition to star ting and stopping the pow er flow to the cutter blades, the clutch also acts as a br ake to assist in stopping blade rotation when the PT O is s witched off or the operator presence circuit is interrupted.
