Getting started 18 Getting star ted This section describes th e tasks you must complete before you use your handset. Use the following informat ion to prepare your handset for use, and to familiarize .
Getting started 19 Figure 1: Battery pack To install a ba ttery pack in yo ur handset, perform the following steps: 1. Place the handse t face down on a flat surfac e. 2. Remove the batt ery compartment cover. 3. Push the ba ttery pack into the casing as shown in Figure 2 .
Getting started 20 Figure 2: Installi ng the battery pack Installing the char ger To install th e charger, perf orm the follow ing steps: 1. Place the charge r on a flat surface. 2. Connect th e AC adapter cable to the ter minal on the bottom of the charger.

Getting started 22 Char ging the batteries Place the handset in the char ger as shown in the following figure. Figure 4: Handse t installed on char ger Important batter y information Use the battery pack only as directed . Heat or cold reduces the performance and se rvice life of the batteries.
Getting started 23 fully charged. Charg e the batteries only using the DECT Hand set charger supplied with the handset. Charg ing guidelines Observe the following when yo u charge your handset: • Charge the ba ttery for at least 6 hours befor e you use the handset fo r the first ti me.
Getting started 24 Charging and operating times Discharged batter ies require 6 hours to comple tely recharge. Completely charged batterie s provide the handset with ap proximately 8 hours of ta lk time and 100 ho urs of sta ndby time. W ARNING Use only the batteries that Avaya provide s or authorises.
Getting started 25 Charge display A battery charge statu s symbol appears on t he display. When the b attery is nearly discharged, the batt ery c harge status symbol fla shes and a warning tone sounds. If you are on a call when this happens, the handset switches off after appr oximately 3 to 5 minut es.
Getting started 26 The following table shows the ba ttery charge status icons. Note: (4075 only) Y ou can configure the LED indi cator to flash wh en the handset b attery is low . When you place the handset on the charger , th e LED indicator turns off.

DECT system configuration 47 Subscribing the handset to a DECT system You must subscribe the handset to at least one DECT system before you can use the handset to make a call. The handset can oper ate with a maximum of four DECT syst ems, for which the han dset stores the na me of the system in a subsc ription record.

Messaging 108 Message limitations The following limitations apply to the Messaging feature: • With a MEM card installed, the syst em can store up to 80 messages. • You can send or re ceive messages if your handset is in range of a DECT system to which th e handset is subscribed.
