Status Bar Ic ons provide info rmation about yo ur device’ s status and options, such as signal strength, wireless technology , ringer se tting, messaging, and batter y charge. 2. 12 4. microSD Card Slot lets you use a micr oSD card to expand the memor y of your phone. A 2GB microSD card comes pre-installed. 5. P ower Button lets you turn the device on or off, or turn off the touchscreen display . • When the scr een is tur ned off, press once to retur n to Scre en lock mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 13 Call Muted – T he device m i crophone has been muted. Speaker – Speakerphone f eature is enabled. Batter y Strength – Shows your current battery charge level. (Icon shown is fully charged.) Batter y Charging – Shows your current b atter y charge level and indicates it is chargi ng.
14 Sign-in/Sync Error – There has been an issue with your connection to the Googl e server or you were not properly signed into your account. In order to use Google application or sync features, you must set up and sign int o an act ive Google ac count.

16 Note: Long backlight settings, searching for ser vice, vibrate mode, browser use and other variables may reduce the battery talk and standby times. Tip : Watch your battery level indica tor and charge the battery before it runs out of power . Installing the Ba tter y See “Setting Up Y our Device” on page 5.

18 • T urn Wi-F i of f when not in use. • Deactivate the GPS when not needed. Mos t applications using this function will periodica lly query the GPS satellites for your current location; each query drains your batter y . See “Activating Location Mode” on page 123.

24 Using the Applications T ab Y o u can access all of your local applications by the shortcuts in the Applications tab. Note: This tab houses all default and downloaded a pplications (installed from Android Market or from the Web). 1. Note: If you do not already have a Google account, tap Create and follow the onscreen prompts to create your new account.

Emergenc y Callback mode: Once you have dialed an em ergency number you can press a button to automa tically re dial the emerge ncy number .

Settings 51 Vir tual P riv ate Netw or k (VPN) Settings Using this menu you can set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Note: Before you can use a VPN you must establish and configure one. Adding a VPN 1. From the Home s creen, press and tap ➔ Wireless & networks ➔ VPN setti ngs .
52 3. Ta p International Dialing. 4. T ap the entry field and press from the onscreen keyboard to delete the prev ious value. 5. Enter a new value and tap OK . 6. Ta p North Am erican dialing to reactiva te the fea ture. This disables the International D ialing field.
Settings 53 Warn ing! : 911 Emer genc y Call ing TTY users should make emergency calls by other means, inc luding T elecommunications Relay Services (TRS), analog cellular , and landline communications. Wireless TTY calls to 911 may be corrupted when received by public safety answering points (PSAPs), rendering some communications unintelligible.
54 • Only when not in Silent mode : your device only vibrates fo r notifica tions and alert s when Silent mode i s not active. Note: The Phone vibrate setting is independent of other call sound settings. For example, if you enable Silent mode with Phone vibrate, your phone will not play a ringtone, but will vibrate for an incoming call.

Settings 57 Adjusting the Date and Time Y our phone obtains it s time and da te info rmation by using the network-provided da te, time, and time zone. These va lues can be manually altered. 1. From the Home s creen, press and tap ➔ Date & time .
58 Note: T urning Location on allows the network to detect your position using GPS technology , making some mobile a pplications and services easier to use. T urning Location off disables the GPS location function for all purposes except 911, but will not hide your general location based on the cell site serving your call.

Settings 61 Calling in Loc k Mo de When your de vice is locked, you can onl y receive incomi ng calls or make calls to 911o r Customer Service. 1. Press to reveal the lock screen. Note: The Unlock Pattern applies if the Require Pattern setting is enabled.

64 Manag e R unning Ser vices This service is an efficient method for managing power consumption and proc essor/memory resour ces. Processes can be stopped until the phone is restarted. T o stop a current ly running service: 1. From the Home screen, press and tap ➔ Applications ➔ Running ser vices.

70 Section 5: Histor y Viewing Call Log Call Log (Histor y) is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entries) for call s you placed, ac cepted, or missed .
Histor y 71 Call Log Options This list provides easy acces s to redial an entr y , or you can al so choose to access two types of history entry list s depending on how they are touched. • Highlight an entry from the list and tap to quickly redial the selected entry .

T ools 81 Section 7: T ools Before Y ou Be gin Prior to using Google applications such as calendar , you will need to have an active Google account (page 39). Google Calendar is an applicat ion tha t synchronizes new and existing entries between your phone and your online Google account.

V oice Dialing Use Voice Dialer , the built-in automatic speech recognition (ASR) software, to dial a pho ne number in your Contacts or to launch phone functions.

96 Section 9: microSD Car d Y our Device’ s micr oSD Car d and Adapter T he microSD Car d Y our phone is equipped with a preinstalled 2GB SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity ) memory card. It allows you to store images, videos, m usic, and voice d ata in your phone.
microSD Card 97 Note: Do not over -insert the card as this can damage the contact pins. Note: Be sure to use only recommended microSD cards (<32GB). Using non recommended microSD cards could cause data loss and damage y our devic e. Note: The microSD card and its adapter can be easily dama ged by improper operation.
98 Important!: DO NOT remove a microSD card while the device is accessing or transferring files. Doing so will result in loss or damage of data. Make sure your batter y is fully charged before using the microSD card. Y our data may become damaged or lost if the batter y runs out while you are using the microSD card.
